Looking forward to buying this game and playing with the kids (hope its not Mature rated need to check)

Fabulous OT btw

It's at in-store US Wii U demo kiosks now (along with Twilight Princess and Star Fox videos).

You can select from Pikachu, Lucario, Charizard and Gengar.

So I of course picked Gengar.

It was definitely something you can't pick up from one game as there are a lot of things to the game. I mean there's a dedicated jump button.

Pokemon is quite possibly may be my least favorite Nintendo franchise so I'm in no rush to get the game. Especially with no Water starter.

I will though and a Hori controller eventually. I already own two Hori Wii Arcade Sticks that I use for other fighting games especially Tekken Tag 2 Wii U which is really great.

I do hope they update the game with 4 more characters later. The select screen looks so weird and having only 16 characters with two being different versions of other Pokemon kind of sucks.

Interested to see if a competitive scene can actually develop. I think the game is pretty complicated for casual play with the whole field switching and assist calling. Execution may not be high but the number of very different things available to do is.

Half the roster is gen 1/3. What is up with that? Hopefully they can nearly triple the roster size in a sequel. It's so tiny.

well gen 3 and 4 have the same amount of characters so i don't get what your trying to say but it's like people have said, it's a new fighting game. new fighting game tend to have small rosters. if you want more characters hope that this game does well so that more can happen

If I were to get this on the eshop I'd miss out on shadow mewtwo right?

no, having the amiibo card is a early unlock, you can unlock him by beating the Chrome League which is the final league in the ferrum League

The weirdest thing about the roster is definitely Suicune being the only playable gen 2 rep. I mean...gen 2 is such a loved generation. I can understand gen 5 and 6 only getting 1 since they're still pretty new, but Tyranitar, Scizor, Hitmontop...there were so many options.

I miscounted lol. There is still no excuse for having two Pikachu and Mewtwo. Especially since that Pikachu could have been Hawlucha or something and they could have easily used a more evil legendary for the story like Darkrai or Giratina. That's just laziness. Especially when you have so much Pokemon to pick from. I'm still buying it but I'm a bit disappointed in the roster.

Even weirder is Suicune is the only Water Type, since Gen II is usually ignored for most things for whatever reason.

But Water is the most common type in the series...

But I do think Scizor would be on the short list for post release updates. Scizor and Greninja, and two others I can't think of right now, I'd guess would eventually happen if the game gets post release updates (which I think it will).

Without S Mewtwo the roster probably would have just been one character smaller. S Mewtwo is a semi-clone of Mewtwo, sharing most of his animations. But will 100% unique properties, but their animations are shared in most cases.

Tried out the demo, I had the biggest grin when Charizard KO Gardevoir with his aerial seismic toss.

At the moment I am just winning by button mashing as I figure out how each Pokémon attack work in both Field and Duel phase.

Yeah, gen 2, 5 and 6 are really underrepresented, which is why I am hoping that the game gets some sort of post launch content to fix that and to keep players coming back.

Maybe the team really hated the water route in Hoenn and felt like taking it out on all water Pokémon? ;p

There is an evolution of a gen 2 mon though. So that's something.

But Weavile is a gen 4 Pokémon.

Are there any videos that show which moves from which pokemon are shared from characters in Tekken?

As a tekken fan, i love seeing some of the moves being done by pokemon lol

I know Pikachu basically was trained by Heihachi. I saw him doing EWGF, hellsweeps (using the tail) , twin pistons, and hunting hawk.

Really cool :)

Fighting game characters take a lot of work to make, if we didn't have an extra Pikachu and Mewtwo, we would probably have two less characters. It's not so simple as "we could have had Hawlucha instead" when what we do have relies on a lot of reused assets.
Also, Shadow Mewtwo was created for this game before normal Mewtwo, it would have been strange to not have the original Mewtwo so it's not surprising we now have two.

Am I actually alone in wanting stage diversification?

A change in radius is hardly a change.

I'm pretty sure this game, unlike Smash, was intended for competitive play. Stage hazards would just be a waste of time.

Edit: I just played the demo. This might take a while to get used to, especially since you can't do Training and are stuck with the Gamepad.

Looking forward to picking this up tomorrow. I really hope Gengar is good, if he's not I'll probably fall back to Mewtwo.

It'll likely be an unbalanced mess if Pokken 2 goes from 16 to 40+ in a single game. With fighting game characters, it's very much a case of quality over quantity.

Has anyone heard anyone heard any reports about Braixen? I fear she'll be low teir, but I'll still give her an honest try to see what she can do; though it would be reassuring to hear good things. From the serebii moveset page, it looks like she uses sunny day to power up her moves. Seems like an interesting game plan you have to use with her.

Yeah I heard Gengar got nerfed badly after some tournament where over half the players were using him lol.

Braixen, Mewtwo, Shadow Mewtwo and Garchomp are all new so it'll be interesting to see how they hold up. Have they even been added to the arcade yet?

no they are all wiiu only characters

It's such a waste of stage visuals to not make them more relevant to the gameplay. It's the ultimate "look but don't touch".

like alot of other fighting games, your making a big deal out of nothing.

Oh, I did not know they were wiiu only characters. Explains the lack of info on them. Braixen's sunny day stills ems interesting.

I don't like it in other fighting games either. And it's easier to more fairly implement hazards in 3D fighters anyway, since avoidance is easier for players.

Don't think it'd work in this game with the phase switching, it's not a pure 3D fighter.

And phase switching happens often. Can't imagine what hazards would behave like during a phase shift or how complicated that would get, let alone trying to avoid things in a 2D plane. You'd probably experience more frustration than fun with hazards in this game.

Make the hazards field only. Switching already removes planted hazards like Sceptile's seeds, so switching phases in order to reset the field is already part of gameplay.

And again, I stress optional.

EDIT: Has Regi Ruins really been in since the arcade launch?

But who exactly is that serving? Competitive players would just turn that off and more casual players already have enough on their plate trying to remember their various moves and counterplays to not have to be bogged down by hazard avoidance too.

Also just from a game balance perspective, hazards sound like they'd unfairly benefit zoning characters
