So, Putin can't just let this go since it would hurt his tough guy image, but he was also trying to distance himself from Assad right? How does Russia play this? They said there would be consequences but they were also warned beforehand and not targetted. They can't strike back directly at the US, and there's a question about the Trump-Putin relationship. Do they just bomb rebels even harder in response? "Accidentally" blow up some US advisors in the north? Take PissPigGranddad hostage?

Think PPG is on his way back. There was an article on him I read but I can't remember from where...

They are saying there were no casualties, so for all we know Putin was notified and allowed to tell Assad to get his people out of there.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Russians intentionally left some of their dudes there to be able to stir the pot. They are Russians.

They are saying there were no casualties, so for all we know Putin was notified and allowed to tell Assad to get his people out of there.

Can we believe numbers from Assad's, Trump's, or Putin's medias, though?

I mean Trump doesn't control our media in the same way but presumably those numbers would be sourced from the Executive first, right?

I'm reading conflicting stories. Is there going to be just a strike on that airbase where the chemical weapons were loaded? All airbases? Are we going after Assad? What's the military goal here?

I think we're waiting for further news. Anyone feel free to correct me.

lol this rant about Jared playing dress-up in Iraq is pretty amusing:

And what better way to terrify the caliphate than by sauntering around in a bulletproof vest that's been personalized like a pair of Underoos, and then wearing it OVER a goddamn blazer? It's a sharp look, one that says, ”I'd like to make a war, but I'd also like a mint julep." Imagine how long Scent of a Woman here stared at himself in the mirror with his vest and Malibu cop sunglasses on.

First comment is: ”What advantages does this war have over, say, an ethnic cleansing, which I could also afford?"

Tillerson just said this "doesn't change our policy on Syria," meaning this is likely a one-off purely for the symbolic purposes of making a proportional response against the chemical strike near Homs.

Pretty bog-standard stuff aside from the possibility of Russian casualties.

So no casualties and we didn't crater the airfields.

So we just wasted $80 million in munitions.

Decisive action.
I feel that when the smoke clears this is exactly what happened.

Hell they probably phoned Putin and told him he's got 8 hours to put a few shacks full of fake shit together so we can launch cruise missles at them.

Someone in OT just posted that Russian State Media is claiming killed and wounded on the base.

Like I said earlier, though, I actually don't know who to believe just yet until there's some independent sourcing.

Wow, guess who criticized the strike because we didn't have a conclusive source of the chemical weapon attack? Yup, liberal icon Tulsi Gabbard.

Makes me actually want to praise this move. On the other hand, did we just blow a shit ton of money on a useless message strike?

Is it etymology, or connotations? I thought it was used as a reference to the bird, and (afaik) the bird wasn't named with racist etymology?

A cuckold is a man who has been tricked into raising another man's child. The bird and the porn genre are both from that form. The racial connotations are all from the porn genre.

Edit: Whoops, nvm bird came first.

Seems technically true. The Syria and Russia excuse for it is so dumb that it seems like it has to be them, but is it too much to ask for things to slow down a bit until official investigations finish?

Whoa, so the bird was named after the word cuckold had already been established? I had no idea. That puts a whole new spin on it, haha damn

This conversation is hilarious.

Time to kill is correct, the word cuckold has racist connotations but not etymology.
Given how it's used, and by the type of people it's used by, this makes the most sense to me.

Still it's such a random word that I have never heard before or seen anyone use prior to the past 1-2 years. Just a little curious about it. It's basically become the rallying cry of the alt-right and an easy way of identifying human filth.

You never read Shakespeare?

It was resurrected in English, but speakers of romance languages have never forgotten.

It's a trap, either they all die or they all get married or it's Richard III

And along the way you get to see a master of the language explore human nature. You get to read some incredibly well crafted farce and you get to read some of the best poetry ever written.

Shakespeare is the central pillar of the English canon for a damn good reason. If you want to understand and appreciate Western Literature, you need to study 3 things: the Greeks, the Bible, and Shakespeare. An understanding of those 3 is foundational.

Regarding tonight's news, I wonder if Bannon's departure is independent of this action. The conspiracy theorist in me wants to say the military is imposing itself in the presence of a power vacuum in the administration and sending a message to Russia at the same time. It would go a long way in explaining why McMaster and Tillerson are on such different scripts at the moment.

only good Shakespeare tragedy is Othello imo, his comedies are A++++ tho

My dude, how can you sleep on the tragedies?

This isn't exactly a good thing. So I'd hope not.
