Earlier this week, on PoliGAF...
The President got to ride in a big boy fire truck during Made In America Week™, marking the most excited he's been since he got to ride in a big rig. Papa Pence was there to cheer him on! No, seriously, people in attendance were forced to clap for this.

Them's the rules!

So I literally just got out of work, but apparently the GOP senators are so desperate that they're trying to haul McCain across the country via road trip... for a vote that almost definitely won't work anyway?!

What the heck is going on in D.C.?!

Desperation. That is the only possible explanation.

Just FYI, it would take 34 hours to drive to Phoenix from DC, let alone a return trip. So in 68 hours, McCain would be back in DC ready to vote (if they don't eat/sleep/use the restroom).

If McCain's last vote as senator is to strip healthcare from 20 million + people then I feel zero sympathy for him and his condition. He should just stay home and rest.

Trump is back to blaming Democrats for not helping to get repeal/replace passed.

HEY DIPSHIT, THEY ARE NOT YOUR EMPLOYEES, THEY DON'T AGREE WITH YOUR PLAN AND YOU ARE NOT A KING!

I mean... He clearly supports the bill and its in line with the policy proposals he's championed his whole life. Not sure the fact that this could be his last vote changes anything.

This is why many people told him to get fucked when they found out about his condition. I don't think this way, but I get it.

(repost from old thread)

It's kind of the perfect (hopefully not) end to McCain's story if you think about it:

- Spends years as a POW, heroically survives
- Serves his country in the House and Senate for years.
- Runs for president in 2000, gets smear-campaigned to death by GW Bush's slimeball operatives going after his family.
- Runs again in 2008 and in desperation nominates the single worst person in the world as his VP candidate.
- Gets shit on by the future president who says he's not a war hero.
- Watches as voters and elected Republicans alike swear fealty to Trump, meanwhile thinking, "Yeah screw McCain he's no hero."
- Get sick.
- Get fake condolence tweet from the prez that literally says hope he gets better we need his vote.
- Risk health to get driven/flown across country to vote on a bill to take healthcare away from poor people to cut taxes on the rich.

Going to be a hell of a biography one day.

Sarah Palin's doodles will be invaluable sources for the biographer.

War Peaceman

You're a big guy.
Credit where it is due, it is logically consistent for the GOP to try and force a gravely ill old man to work instead of focusing on treatment.

Flake's simultaneously trying to avoid Kelli Ward kneecapping him from the right and a Democrat stomping him from the left.

Why can't members of Congress vote remotely? Is it because then nobody would ever show up in Washington?
Probably! Though I can understand some old-timey requirement to be physically present to vote on a piece of legislation until they can come up with some kind of legally binding biometric method.
Just FYI, it would take 34 hours to drive to Phoenix from DC, let alone a return trip. So in 68 hours, McCain would be back in DC ready to vote (if they don't eat/sleep/use the restroom).
How about in a Corvette with a police escort? Totally doable 20 hours each way. If he'd left DC this morning he could have been back by late tomorrow evening!

Anyway, Texas congressman blames repeal issues on female Senators, brings up Aaron Burr

A Texas Republican congressman says it’s “absolutely repugnant” that the GOP-led Senate hasn’t acted on repealing the health care law and he singled out “some female senators from the Northeast.”

In a radio interview with “1440 Keys,” Rep. Blake Farenthold said the Senate has failed to show the courage to dismantle the health care law. The Senate is expected to vote Tuesday on whether to move ahead on legislation.

Farenthold complained about some female lawmakers and said, “If it was a guy from south Texas, I might ask him to step outside and settle this Aaron Burr-style.”

Maine Sen. Susan Collins has been consistent in opposing the GOP replacement to Obamacare. Other female senators who have expressed reservations are Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

You don't know what's in the bill, right?

Murkowski: "That's correct, as far as I know at this time."

Murkowski: "I do not" know what's after MTP.

Appropriate?

"I'm told we're going to be finding that out, which will be very important."

Lisa Murkowski still undecided on the motion to proceed.

Hold that L Don

I want somebody in the Democratic Party to fire back something like "Hell yes, we're proud to protect Americans' health care from this hatchet job!"

And then "hatchet job" gets to be what people throw around to dis the plan.

Sort of agree.

Who is the third no? I also don't trust Collins/Murkowski staying "no" if McCain is somehow airlifted to DC, on the theory of pure sentimentality (I know... I just trust none of these fucks).

I just doubt McCain even makes it out though.

Basically, Senators want a vote on the record. Rand Paul wants to say he voted for full repeal and Senator X didn't so go blame them. Simultaneously, Susan Collins can say to non-Republicans she voted against these bills so don't pin anything on her.

Much as I hate to give her credit, Collins will absolutely stay a no regardless of what happens. She's been a solid no throughout this entire process, and she would kill some of her credibility in Maine by switching now.

So, who is going to leave first, Rexy or Elf Boy?

Also, can McCain just do a video call? Does the Senate require you to be physically in the room to vote? I'd be more down for them updating the rules to let McCain vote from home, rather than force him back to Washington.

Yeah, that's the post limit on GAF threads.

It's not a hard cap, but there is/was something about the implementation of vBulletin NeoGAF is built off of that causes performance issues once a topic gets a bit beyond 20k posts. At least that's what the Admins claim, I don't have access to the code.

Between those two? Rex, because he's basically been neutered by Trump and Kushner and probably can't stand it.

Yes, you have to be physically present to vote.

@Alexruoff

GOP doesn't have to decided what bill they'll ultimately vote on until 20 hours after MTP passes, Barrasso says. So we'll know Wed-Thursday.

MTP on something we'll decide later

Guess they want their vacations lol

Tillerson. Deal with Russia is off thanks to additional sanctions so what's the point? Literally the only reason he was chosen to be Secretary of State.

You have to physically be there for the vote, no video calls.

If you don't trust them to vote no, even if they say they are, why would it matter who the third no is?

But anyway, it's Rand Paul. Or Heller. Or Johnson. Or those two crazy conservative guys whose names I can't remember.

Yeah. From what I can tell, Trump & Putin seem to have given up on sanctions at least for now.

I strongly think that they'll stay nos (I just can't totally rely on this if somehow they get McCain to DC and it turns into some weird, hero narrative).

Flying McCain in to try to guilt senators to vote in favor of the MTP is pretty damn sleazy. Even by 2017 standards, A-tier sleazy.

I watched Kushner's press conference and gained some sympathy from him. How would you like to fix the Middle East and go through puberty at the same time?

Probably! Though I can understand some old-timey requirement to be physically present to vote on a piece of legislation until they can come up with some kind of legally binding biometric method.

It'll be Cornyn and McCain in a Trans-Am, blasting some Jerry Reed

So a topic can only have like 20,000 posts or something?

Yeah, apparently the site runs into issues with larger threads. Old E3 threads got massive sometimes. So typically you need to throw up a new thread once you hit 20K posts.
