PoliGAF 2017 |OT5| The Man In the High Chair

Obama got so politically burned by his statements on Trayvon Martin from what I recall back in the day. On one hand, I'm sure the backlash would end me as well, but I don't recall how much he held back since that moment.

It sucks that such a moment of empathy can be considered a "political burn." I hate it so much. I just remember that since that moment he treaded so much more carefully on his words in those situations.

I think it's more that he doesn't want to validate their perception of "angry black man president" than to avoid hurting their feelings

About that, everyone already saw him as an angry black man the moment he became a public figure. It happens to all of us.

I realize at this point that it's not in his nature to let his emotion show on matters like this but what does he have to lose now? Really?

Yeah I mean I think it's more of a "psychological warfare" tactic than actual concern about what racists think. So that when a racist says "Obama is crazy because X" a more resonable person can look and go "wait, no." It's not out of concern for racists it's out of concern for winning the hearts and minds of people who aren't, or at least not giving racists ammo to turn more people to their cause.

I mean I'd guess it's not like I know his thought process. That's just what I'd assume it is.

John McCain called them white supremacists/nationalists... I think Obama can actually say something a bit more forceful than teach them to love.

will gain confidence one day
It may also be that Obama is just like that, as a person. Rather than holding back, he may just prefer to remain an optimist with a vision.

I hope we get some good leaky leaks out of Bedminster. Probably some raised voices at the moment. And Ivanka is very disappointed of course.

He has the audacity to hope.

Obama has to be careful, he's gonna be more behind the scenes. I don't think you'll ever see him out there like he was in the past while campaigning because he knows it could just get more republicans to vote when they may otherwise be feeling disappointed in their party heading into the midterms

Furthermore Dems can't rely on him for everything, the party needs to take care of itself, he's out of office

McAuliffe 2020

He's been doing something right... he's wayyy more to the point and less whiny compared to his antics during the 08 campaign.

Obama could make a statement about how great it is to see both sides come together to condemn this act using statement such as Cruz's and McCain's.

To the surprise of no one, Uncle Paris is on CNN shilling for Trump over the events in Charlottesville.

Edit: And CNN has such weak hosts. Jesus.

Does CNN have any redeeming qualities left?

Even Anderson Cooper is a shell of his former self. I never thought I'd say that.

Just think back to Anderson during Katrina compared to now. He has turned into a robot.

I urge the Department of Justice to immediately investigate and prosecute this grotesque act of domestic terrorism.

I am of two minds about all of the Republicans coming out against Trump's position on this.

1.) I will support just about anyone who will call out Trump's Racist clownshow.

2.) These GOP fucks don't get to wash their hands of this. They own Trump and they own this.

So basically: Thanks for the help, but fuck you forever.

Michael Von Kotch, a Pennsylvania resident who called himself a Nazi, said the rally made him ”proud to be white."

He said that he's long held white supremacist views and that Trump's election has ”emboldened" him and the members of his own Nazi group.

From the WaPo.

Everyone who Both Sides'd the election or voted for Trump owns this, as illustrated by the quote above.

I think Vox did a video about that.

People in his position aren't really suppose to display emotion and are there to just report the news, at least the industry sees it that way. You can pretty much see the same in almost all news outlets.

DoJ investigations?

Hmm, I'm sure Sessions will get right on that after taking off his own hood.

Even Sessions understands optics. If the GOP is seen as standing in the way of justice for Charlottesville, well, there goes Ed Gillespie (who's already in a bit of a tight spot).

Fuck me, there's a "Free Speech" event next week on Boston Common next weekend with Cassandra Fairbanks, Laura Loomer, Baked Alaska and other assorted shitheads.

Maybe it will be cancelled. The government can make a pretty rock solid claim of safety concerns considering today's events.

I know they are already flooding the mayor and governor's switchboards. Also, this same group did another event in May so it's not like they haven't been given a chance to spread their crap already.

They've already posted on their FB that they are not associated with the Charlottesville group, although they have an awful lot of the same speakers.
