What the hell. All signs are pointing to a fairly easy Obama win, yet I have this pit in my stomach knowing that it can't be that simple. It may just be the shitty MSM trying to make it seem close to get ratings, or it may be that I am absolutely terrified that the youth vote will not show up.

Somebody hold me.

If Nader didn't run in key states though, Gore probably would have got just enough votes to squeeze through.

I hope he stays away from as many states as possible this year. If the guy had a good shot at winning I'd be all for it, but seriously, the odds of Nader winning a Presidential election are about as good as Sean Hannity getting a sex change.
I have a lot of respect for Nader but I don't think his runs for presidency do much good. He would be better off working in the Democratic primaries or trying to build an organization from the local level on up, imo.

You're right I don't function well in your society. I'm one of those Ivy league educated elitists as republicans call them who are all about facts and snob idiots that yell "drill baby drill". And I'm proud of it.

Fuck you. You don`t know me or who I am. What a little bitch you must be.

Look at what Ghaleon just put up. Dude, this is happening all over. Like Anihawk said, it is a calming effect. The MSM isn't even covering it.

Yeah I was responding to Ghal's numbers. I know so many new voters registered but I fear that a great deal of them won't show up. We know all of those old republican voters will be there come Election Day; it's pretty much the only thing they look forward to in their lives :lol

I dunno, this all could be pointless for me. I know I'm a pessimist when it comes to these sort of things so I won't drop it until the election is complete.

As we saw with Obama/Hillary, the MSM will give it the appearance it's close for ratings purposes.

Same thing man...I don't know how I'm going to function until elections. I've been following this stuff non-stop since the DNC.

So much anxiety.

I was ignorrant in the Bridge to nowhere and was schooled for it. I have since tried to educate myself on the subject and understand I was wrong. I am trying to get more information to make an informed decision on the presidential race. I just don`t think that calling entire groups retards and morons is such a good thing.

Yup, though there were some points where I wouldn't post in here for a couple of days, I've been a slave to PoliGAF since the first Caucus in Iowa. There were the dark times of New Hampshire and the awesome times of Super Tuesday/February. It's just that we should never underestimate the Republicans come Election Day.

All I know at this point is that I will be shitting bricks on November 4th.

I remain supremely confident in Obama winning. The wealth of support for both Democratic candidates during the primaries just solidified that belief. The voter registration numbers coming through do nothing to dispel it.

Dems need to rally the base. Seems like the Republican's are doing it for them.

He was calling an entire group retarded. It is one thing to single out a individual for their stupidity but not cool to stereotype groups.

Congratulations independents and undecided you fucking morons I guess you were inspired by the RNC speeches huh? I hope your idiocy prevents you from finding out where you're voting you gullible retards. And no whiny republicans I'm not generalizing, anyone who was inspired by the lies and insults of the RNC speeches to vote republicans is a certified moron and that is the truth.

I donated another 500$ to Obama and Nader. But even if Obama wins I'll still be bitter, I can't believe it's a close race between Obama and these lying scums. Only in america.

You GAF socialists are such bitter people, its amazing. When will you realize that trashing America with that rhetoric does not win elections? Your candidate spouts the same nonsense rhetoric trashing this country, so it’s not surprising to see his little socialist foot soldiers doing to same.

I suggest packing your bags now and moving to Sweden or France, or whatever other “civilized” country you’d like to rape you with high taxes, because McCain is going to win in a landslide.

And I’d get used to Sarah Palin if I were you. After the media tried to destroy her for two days, she now has a higher favorable rating than Obama.:lol Keep the personal attacks coming.

A week ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom.

The figures include 40% with a Very Favorable opinion of Palin and 18% with a Very Unfavorable view (full demographic crosstabs are available for Premium Members). Before her acceptance speech, Palin was viewed favorably by 52%. A week ago, 67% had never heard of her.

The new data also shows significant increases in the number who say McCain made the right choice and the number who say Palin is ready to be President. Generally, John McCain’s choice of Palin earns slightly better reviews than Barack Obama’s choice of Joe Biden.

Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin’s favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%. .

Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans believe that most reporters are trying to hurt Palin’s campaign, a fact that may enhance her own ratings.
(Want a free daily e-mail update? Sign up now. If it's in the news, it's in our polls. Get our daily update and we’ll let you know what voters really think.)

The Palin pick has also improved perceptions of John McCain. A week ago, just before he introduced his running mate, just 42% of Republicans had a Very Favorable opinion of their party’s nominee. That figure jumped to 54% by this Friday morning. Among unaffiliated voters, favorable opinions of McCain have increased by eleven percentage points in a week—from 54% before the Palin announcement to 65% today.

Forty percent (40%) now say that Palin is ready to be President, if necessary. That’s up from 29% last week. Forty-nine percent (49%) say the same about Biden.
However, following the Wednesday night speech, voters are fairly evenly divided as to whether Palin or Obama has the better experience to be President. Forty-four percent (44%) of voters say Palin has the better experience while 48% say Obama has the edge. Among unaffiliated voters, 45% say Obama has better experience while 42% say Palin. :lol

Fifty-eight percent (58%) of voters say that Palin’s speech helped McCain’s chances of becoming President while only 10% believe it hurt those prospects.
While Palin’s numbers are stunning today, it remains to be seen how the Alaska Governor’s numbers will hold up through the next two months. She has made a tremendous first impression, but the country will get to know her a lot better between now and November.

I was specifically talking about the undecided and the voters who changed their minds because of the RNC speeches. Too bad you took it personally, I guess you liked them too huh?

Seriously :lol

Rudy is one of the biggest slimeballs in US politics.

It's all fine and good that he had big brass balls on 9/11, but that does not excuse him from basically acting like a dick, especially afterwards.

He should be ashamed of himself for using 9/11 to his perceived advantage every time he opens his mouth. I want to hit him, I really do.

As I said before, the media made their bed and now they have to lie in it. The Republicans just used the media's sensationalist crap and threw it right back at them (and to the advantage of the McCain camp).

If Obama loses I might hang myself after I pay you, so a GAF ban would be small fry :'(

edit: dammit. Hey if you're unbanned by then, I'll up the stakes: if he loses, I'll post "this is a sad day for communism" in the current PoliGAF thread, and if Maccy loses you gotta post "This is a sad day for fascism". I will take a non-response as agreement :p

You can all stop hyperventilating now.

After yesterday's polls showed little sign of Republican momentum, today's polls -- which incorporate reaction to Sarah Palin's speech for the first time -- now show some bounce toward John McCain. You can fill out basically every square in the 'B' column of your bingo card with the national polls today: CBS now shows a tie; Rasmussen shows the race tightening to 2 points (down from 5 yesterday); the Economist shows it at 3 points, Gallup at 4 (down from 7), Democracy Corps at 5, and the brand-new, Diageo-Hotline tracking poll at 6.

I would not worry too much about any one of these individual results. The CBS poll, for instance, which had shown Obama 8 points ahead over the weekend, had a fairly small sample size and a fairly massive shift in party ID, as can sometimes happen when you're ringing people up while the convention is on the tube. That doesn't mean that its tied result is "wrong" any more than its 8-pointer for Obama is "right" (polls conducted over the weekend have their own problems). But it does mean that there's probably some noise in there, rather than true movement (especially since this poll was conducted before the Palin speech).

Clearly, however, there has been some movement back toward McCain-Palin; it's just a question of magnitude. From what best I can tell (and this is not an exact science) the one-night results from yesterday's tracking polls showed something like a 1-2 point Obama lead. If -- and this is a big if -- that is the extent of the GOP bounce, this is a somewhat underwhelming result for them. Last night and tonight should be among the best individual nights of polling that the Republicans see all year. If the best they can do is close the race to a tie, or an Obama +1 on those nights, they are not going to win the race based on inertia alone.

What would you call three days of non stop coverage about Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter?

The Mainstream media showed their true colors this week and now 51% of Americans think the media is out to get her. All this bashing of her is coming back to bite the MSM and Democrats in the ass.
