I am freaking out because I will be on a ten hour flight on the day the election is called. I will be among the last people in the us to hear the result.

My thanks to responders of my last post. There is something so psychologically damaging about your own mother yelling at you about your own politics. I'm 30 and there is nothing she can do to sway me. I still wasn't prepared to meet her in a battle. She is so far gone down the pro-Life movement that nothing will change. She went as far as to say I was in favor of child murder today and outright ignored me when I brought up the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church when it came to condemning abortion but allowing for no alternative by also condemning contraception. I can only hope that I'm planting seeds.

There's plenty hypocrital of the Catholic church, but what you just said isn't.

Was trying to figure out pithy response and realized there are basically no countries you would ever even go to that don't have national free healthcare. We are such fucking idiots.

The other day my mom accused me of having no solid grounding on which to base my morals since I no longer believe in god (because a vague old book that has lead to 1000s of bickering religious denominations is rock solid!), and when the topic moved to euthanasia she accused me of planning to kill her off when she gets "too old for [my] liking".

It sucks, bro.

I don't mean to be confrontational, but when you condemn abortion and offer no alternatives except for abstinence and marriage, you are ignoring basic human drives and basic human sexuality. It is wrong to force congregations into either being married childbearers or abstinent followers. We aren't wired for that.

Yup. This is bad. Even if he wins on tuesday he'll eventually be pushed out by the party...and Christie will pick his successor until a special election next year.

IF its true.

So far the source looks like its the Daily Caller, which is a few notches below Breitbart and Drudge in reliability.

That's fine, and I certainly would not disagree. I just wouldn't label their stance as hypocritical because it seems straightforward. Sex should only equal to kids.

Wrong? . . . That is the whole point.

I agree that it is not a good thing for the members, but it is good for the religion.

Man, if the Right is really misleading their base to believe that this election is wrapped up in Romney's favor and not even entertaining a scenario where Obama wins...man! They are setting the stage for a lot of malcontent.

Like everything I see from the Right involves this over the top confidence that leaves no room for an alternate outcome.

I don't watch Fox or listen to Rush. Are they parroting this kinda rhetoric there too?

If you get off the plane and everything is on fire then Obama won and the liberal darkness period has begun

If anyone needs some early schadenfreude, you can drop by this thread on Gamespot and lay into the thread creator. I'm a mod over there(name's rragnaar), and I'm not trying to instigate anything, but I think some fun can be had with this guy. I think he could give Kosmo lessons.

I guess it matches with their goals, but it is fucked up to oppose abortion and be opposed to birth control.

That's what makes the specter of a Romney victory so much worse. Every election from now until the end of time will feature more Dick Morris.

Hardrighties are latching on to anything to keep their spirits up - some random early voting figure they read, or some random poll that says Romney is winning all 50 states, etc.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is the captain speaking. I'd like to inform the Americans on board that Mitt Romney is your new President!"

Every major conservative I see on twitter (Eric Erikson, Brietbart folks, NRO, etc) are saying Romney has this wrapped up; no doubt in their minds. Hannity is the same way on Fox. Granted I believe Romney will win too, but am far from 100% certain like them. I think it's pretty obvious many of them are purposely misleading their audience, setting the stage for some truly ugly shit on November 7th if Romney loses.

It's rather disturbing how insane they've gone over Benghazi, and I feel like an alleged stolen election will just be like lighting dynamite and throwing it in gasoline

Man. I havent visited gamespot in years. I got banned for something (forget what) about 5 years ago lol.

Even more so.

They have fucking Dick Morris on every night.

It's really depressing.

Say that Obama wins re-election...the Right has been telling their base for weeks, since Debate 1 that Romney has it locked up.

Likely cherry picking polls and whatnot, ignoring aggregate and state polls that don't fill out that narrative. (Hell, I heard Fox shit on their own poll on TV) showing EC maps that aren't based on any reality.

Then if it doesn't happen as they have all been told it would, they will blame some sort of conspiracy for it all happening, all while Fox steps back and says, "We're just as surprised as you." Then the talking heads will be all given a platform to vent:

Christie, Romney for being to "moderate" and certainly Obama for fixing the election. It's outside forces' fault but not the campaign's--they ran a perfect campaign and look at how much red is on that map!

It's sad because Fox and the Right have a genuine responsibility to inform their viewers/listeners and instead, they just set them up for being further riled up.

We're really more or less back to the state of the race before the first debate. Obama clearly leading where it counts to win, and people going back to the THE POLLS ARE WRONG meme to keep R enthusiasm from plummeting.

Oh I completely agree. I think it is pretty much evil given the amount of human suffering it causes due to grinding poverty in much of the third world. As the acerbic Christopher Hitchens put it "Mother Teresa was not a friend of the poor. She was a friend of poverty." I want to reduce human suffering and I think many religious dogmas increase suffering.
