Ciara impacted the top 40 with Body party. It's #35 on the hot 100. Stan

Wait...

I'm so happy for Ciara and everything, but WTF.

The song has been available for purchase/streaming for some time, and there's no way this position is deserved based on radio play. The "Body Party" video has gotten a little over 5 million views so far, which must be the reason for the high chart placement.

Brandy's "Put It Down" received over 11 million views in its first week, had MUCH better AI numbers/spins, and comparable iTunes charting. The song debuted at #95 (first full week after the music video) on Billboard and eventually climbed up to #65.

I've yet to hear "Body Party" played once on the radio despite spending many hours of my life requesting it over the past month. For about three months, any time I listened to an urban or hip-hop station, Put It Down would be playing every 30-45 minutes.

In conclusion, Billboard's formula is utter bullshit. Decent idea in theory, terribly implemented.

:crie: at the thought of Brandy having a Top 20 hit if she had released her album this year, post-formula change. It's even worse because they made another change toward the end of last year which clocked her from getting her #1 Hip-Hop/R&B song.

Back when Put It Down was released, Billboard wasn't factoring in Youtube views in their formula. 5 million views for a video that's been out for about a week isn't that bad, but it's a bit strange that it's as high as it is on the hot 100.

Also, Body Party is doing OK on iTunes, it's at about 76.

Gurl...no shit.

That's why I'm using it as a comparison. By just about every metric it performed better (perhaps slightly worse on iTunes, at least its peak), yet it debuted 60 spots below Body Party?

5 million views on Youtube should not make that much of a difference.

TBH usually the differences between songs outside of the top 20 is minuscule. 10k sales can be the difference between 99th and 50th...... and I think 5 million youtube views is probably work more than 10k sales.

Billboard counting Youtube views (more than streaming, to boot) still doesn't sit right with me.

Meh.

The doomsday predictions were proved wrong when PSY's Gentleman failed to even get top 3 when it had 150 million youtube views WW in a week.

I am now completely fine with its inclusion.

Youtube>>>>>Radio anyways since artists actually get paid on Youtube. If anything radio is what should be getting the boot (most of the formula adjustment towards streaming was taken from radio).

I think somewhere down the line streaming should be weighed the most. It makes the most sense for music, and streaming is only going to get even more popular and accessible.

There's just too many ways to fuck with youtube views, and too many reasons people would watch a video that have nothing to do with the song.

Ah.

I think they have a fairly firm handle on it EXCEPT the stupid 30 second rule.

Imo a video needs to have at least 80% of the song in it before it counts as a stream.

But it was educational!

Now I have something new to try at the strip club.

What exactly is allowed to be posted on gaf? I've seen some crazy stuff occasionally that was marked as NSFW that led to nudity and what not.

It sort of depends on the topic. I mean, those pictures wouldn't have been appropriate anywhere but there is some grey.

Well, I won't tell where, but I was in a certain thread and someone posted a link that was tagged NSFW. It led to a lot of nude pictures, but it wasn't porn... it was artistic. So does like... if its of artistic merit does it mean it's safe?

"I'll design clothes and sing because I want to, not because I need the money. I love singing and I can't wait to start working on an album."

I'm here for it, tbh. I need some trash.

That Janelle Monae song is some scattered ass mess. The rap at the end is typical Janelle fare (ie great) but that chorus is like five songs layered over one another.

Hope it's better on repeated listens, though I probably won't listen to it again until the album hits.

I'm usually not, but yeah I definitely wasn't feeling it sis. Her and Badu standing together was great too, I'm just not quite sure what the goal of the song was, musically. Janelle's chord choices are usually bolder and airier than this so kinda surprised. Ohhh wellllll

I think the goal was to make a cute funky song with a stupid rap at the end.

Mariah only wrote that because of what she said to Nicki. I really don't think Mariah cares about P!nk's music in real life.

Red(song) is now on Spotify; could it be the next multi-format US sinigle? Either way, go listen to this earworm~

Red could slay tbh, especially considering many pop songs with other genre influences are slaying.

Wasnt "Everything has changed" supposed to be the new single?

Well keep in mind that compared to Mariah, everybody seems like a risk taker. lol

Butterfly was as big as risk as any of your faves have taken, and she lost more than half her previous audience (more if you think she picked up any new fans from the change) because of it.

She does get stuck in routines, though
You're still wrong about everything

Supposedly a UK only single, but we will see how this pans out. I still think 22 could become a top 10 summer smash.

Red should have been the current single instead of 22, tbh.

I C.

I prefer "Everything has changed" to "Red" in all honesty. But I'm horrible at predicting how well their singles are gonna do.

"Treacherous" will be this era's Enchanted, won't it? :(
