Ciara impacted the top 40 with Body party. It's #35 on the hot 100. Stan
Wait...
I'm so happy for Ciara and everything, but WTF.
The song has been available for purchase/streaming for some time, and there's no way this position is deserved based on radio play. The "Body Party" video has gotten a little over 5 million views so far, which must be the reason for the high chart placement.
Brandy's "Put It Down" received over 11 million views in its first week, had MUCH better AI numbers/spins, and comparable iTunes charting. The song debuted at #95 (first full week after the music video) on Billboard and eventually climbed up to #65.
I've yet to hear "Body Party" played once on the radio despite spending many hours of my life requesting it over the past month. For about three months, any time I listened to an urban or hip-hop station, Put It Down would be playing every 30-45 minutes.
In conclusion, Billboard's formula is utter bullshit. Decent idea in theory, terribly implemented.
:crie: at the thought of Brandy having a Top 20 hit if she had released her album this year, post-formula change. It's even worse because they made another change toward the end of last year which clocked her from getting her #1 Hip-Hop/R&B song.
