Press shot of Apple iPhone 5C (budget model) leaks

Laptops use the light from the screen to light up the Apple, an iPhone can't do that because all of the internals of the phone are in the way. So to do it they would need to put in a tiny LED and that uses battery and takes up space and is all around not worth it. They get the light on the laptops for "free" in engineering terms, on a phone it would have engineering costs.
I'm so glad they still take the time to design that into the MacBooks. It'll be a sad day if they ever decide to drop that feature. Like when they dropped the Happy Mac from the boot screen and signalled the death of Legacy Macs. Or when they took Claris out back and had him shot. I remember when the glowing Apple was upside down. Took them a while to get around to turning it over for some reason.

Can't wait to see one with current Android devices (S4, One, Xperia Z, etc.) vs. the 5S.

Apple is losing their touch in the mobile space. I'll just go out and say it, but they need to stop chasing the market with what everyone is doing. First the bigger screen, then iOS 7, now this. Bring back the innovation, not some marginal improvements.

Well, the bigger screen is just a taller screen to make the device 16:9. No big deal. And iOS7 is a welcome change to a stale OS that was getting out of hand. I mean iOS hadn't changed at all since it came out.

Apple's taller screen is not what anyone asked for, people want a bigger screen length and width, just copy the Samsung galaxy dimensions

But not happening for years

But iOS 7 is just a re-skin of iOS6 with features Android has had for a looooooong time, such as Control Center.

Everyone will know how worthless your life is once they see you have no metal bezel.

As long as iphone5 cases fit on them, no one will ever know. Hell, most people use cases on their iphones already so how can us iphone users flaunt our higher status when people won't know if we have the expensive or cheap iphone under our case?

/1% problems

With so many apple devices I'm kind of locked in the Eco system, I'm at the mercy of apple to actually listen to consumers and release a bigger screen

Are you really locked into the ecosystem? Do you have a bunch of paid apps that you'd need to repurchase if you switched to an Android phone?

I want a bigger screen, but I like iOS 7 too much :(

And VSCO Cam. Although Android has caught up, it still stings when the iPhone gets stuff like Vine and VSCO Cam way ahead of Android.

I do have some paid app sure, but the connectivity between my iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBook, Apple TV, time capsule... You get the idea, is pretty much flawless. Plus I use a lot of apps that sync between my iPhone and iPad. I'm locked.

I have all of those things and I also have an Android phone that I use primarily for work. Besides TV shows and Movies that I purchased on iTunes pretty much everything transfers over to Android fairly easily. I'm not saying that it isn't a bit of a hassle to get started on a new ecosystem but people seem to think they're more locked in than they really are.

My rooted, over clocked, under volted Galaxy S4 with it's big ass 1080p screen says hi.

Okay...now how about for the normal people who don't care about that?

I'm just saying, it's pretty dumb for people to whip out all this crap about specs when simple stuff like scrolling isn't perfect on Android (And yes I know they've made great strides with Project Butter)

My Nexus 4 says hi.

I've never held a Nexus 4 so I'm essentially basing this off of me handling some of the new Droids a few days ago (And remembering a reviewer comment about it with a HTC One or something)

Also, where the fuck is my iOS Google Music App :(

why not just make calls on an ipad mini at that point. a huge selling point of the iphone is that it's the only reasonable sized smartphone on the market today.

Yeah... "Normal" people don't care about specs to begin with. Phone benchmarks are misleading. And at that, the benchmark sheet someone else posted is, outdated anyway.

I've only had my GS4 for two weeks and it already feels small. I don't get why people complain about Android devices being ridiculously huge. I mean, shit like the Galaxy Tab or the Xperia Z Ultra are huge. But my phone or the HTC One, hardly big at all. And it's not like I have Hulk sized hands either :p

The iPhone is way too small. It needs to be bigger. I guess it's perfect for teenaged girls or people who wear skinny jeans. Apple worked hard making iOS 7 the gorgeous interface that it is. I love the new design. A bigger screen would do it proper justice, honestly.

You really going to compare the Galaxy 4 size to a mini? Maybe your 4 years old who can't hold anything over 3 inches.

Who wants this? I dont.
If I want a plastic phone the size of a fucking shoe I'll get a Galaxy. Iphone is perfectly fine the way it is. It didnt even need the taller screen of the 5.

Do you just like talking out of your ass? The nexus, htc one mini (which I posted about when you asked about an htc lite) and the galaxy mini are all reasonably sized

I forgot the new Motorola too unless by reasonably sized you mean the same exact size as the iPhone but that would be disingenuous on your part
not that I'd put it past you

The rumour is that the design for the iPhone 5 is not resulting in production savings over the year as it has with previous iPhones, and hence this new cheaper design to replace it when the 5S ships.

I could see there being some kind of issue with the production of the metal back cover - if costs aren't reducing and producing additional capacity to do the 5 & 5S at the same time is going to be phenomenally expensive, then the previous model of discounting the 5 when the 5S is released isn't going to work.

You can use plastic and not make it feel like a piece of molded shit in your hand. Just look at Nokia's higher-end phones.

i honestly dont care about construction, just features, usability, i admit the feel of 3gs and 4s phones are nicer than most droids, but i just cant make myself care

Haha, now what will all those apple fanboys say about cheap Samsung builds? Now is it okay that Apple is doing it?

I know. Even worse when they are gonna treat 5C owners like second class citizens. "Oh, you got the plastic one...yeah....are you, like, poor or something?" Hence one of many reasons why I don't like Apple products. They are pretty good but serve more as a symbol of status and a fashion statement. It's a phone. It's a tool. It's meant to do things. People still try to act like they have better taste because they own an iPhone, when everyone, their cousin and Jim Bob Joe from East Bumblefuck has one.

But the thing is, they're not special anymore. Android has given Apple a run for their money and very heavy competition. It just seems that Apple has plateaued and has no desire to actually innovate anymore. They have a massive user base and a strong brand with brilliant marketing behind it. Why bother when they can coast and still make a fortune? So now, in order to make some new gains they're going for a slightly lower end approach. Purely from a business standpoint, I think it's a smart move. Ardent Apple fans will see as degrading strategy and detrimental to Apple's perceived image. Still, assuming rumors are true, in regards to design, it's a lazy, half assed approach. The 5C is merely a 5 just made of plastic. Cost effective? Maybe. Then again, now they are gonna have to support two assembly and product lines instead of one. But perhaps the inception of a lower end device will work out in the end for them. But, at the end of the day, is it really innovative and a step forward?
