Its definitely tailored with modern-conveniences, such as fast-travel. But I didn't find it detracted too much from the game. Honestly, as I've gotten older, I'm much more conscious of how these Skinner-boxes like to whittle away our hours on useless activities. I actually have begun to hate it when a game eats up too much of my time on things like movement or inventory management.

Edit: I did not like how you could accomplish everything in one play-through, with the exception of grinding certain miracles/ sorceries. I ran out of steam at around LVL 255, and haven't touched the game since. I got my money's worth though, which is what matters.

I definitely agree with this. I really don't mind fast travel in games either and I didn't mind it Dark 2 (I was actually happy it was there), but I just couldn't get into it for some reason. I think it just came along at time when I was really busy with other things as well having my attention focused more on the PS4 and X1.

I'll definitely give it a second shot over the Summer and hope I can get into as did I Demon's and Dark 1.

How many of you actually finished all three?

Finished Demon's, I stopped playing Dark Souls and it was my own fault, I actually bypassed a certain area but because I like exploring everywhere I decided to go to the place, anyway and got lost, and it was the fucking sewer-like place, I hate sewers in RPG's, every goddamn time. >_<

That said all this project beasts talk is giving me the drive to boot up Dark Souls again, that and I really need to kill my disc based game backlog.

The new people did a fine job. Easily better than Demon's Souls.
Agreed.

It's hard to negate that "first game" nostalgia for many people, but looking at the two objectively, it's hard not to see how much DS2 has improved in pretty much every area.

How many of you actually finished all three?
Several times.

I re-bought Demon's recently and finished a playthrough last week, actually (had only played through it once when it came out). So it's the freshest in my mind, and the ranking DS1 > DS2 > DeS is very clear to me.

I played Demon's Souls for about 2 hours and then Beast Souls was leaked, so I stopped in anticipation.

:)
Shouldn't it have the opposite effect on you? As in encourage you to playthrough Demon's Souls in order to better grasp the lore in preparation for Beast Souls.

Even if the setting is different, I'm 100% positive there will be some references to DeS.

While not recently before all of this I was messing with a hardcore playthrough, where if I die I start over again with a new character lol. Been pretty interesting so far you other maniacs here at GAF should try it. Adds a hell of a lot of tension to the game.

Finished demon's souls 1x about 20h
20h for the first play through of DeS is very impressive!

I probably have about 500+ hours between the 3 games, with DS2 being the most played(and least loved) because it's the one where I really got into PvP.

Finished Demon's and Dark 1. Dark 2 is sitting unfinished in its case, I just couldn't get into it for some reason. I'll probably revisit it over the Summer.

I finished Demon's and Dark multiple times.

I am having a really tough time replaying Dark 2.I think its mainly tailored for multiplayer which I never cared for in souls series.

I think its a good/great game still but something feels off.The game got tedius which is a word I'd never use to describe the other two.

It's weird that even as recent as 6 months ago I wouldn't have really cared about this announcement. I played Demon's Souls a few years ago but didn't really get into it. Not because it was hard, but I found the combat too slow. I sold my copy.

There was a lull of games at the beginning of the year so I thought I'd give it another try since it was on PS+. This time around I stuck with it, and after a while it suddenly clicked and I loved it. Seeing this game gets me really excited now and I really want to play.

First I need to go play Dark Souls though. Not gonna bother with Dark Souls 2 though since I'm hoping for a next gen version

Demon's Souls 2 times, logged 80+ hours
Dark Souls 3 times, logged 90+ hours (have yet to finish Artorias of the Abyss)
Dark Souls 2, busy with college life, might finished in June, logged 11-15 hours

But I don't think how much time you spent with those games really matter on the actual qualities since there are many factor for that (another good games split your attention for example). I mean, could we agree on Yoshichan tag?
Sorry Yoshichan :(

Also got the platinum on all three on PS3, although not done *everything* on DS2. Still got no bonfire and no deaths run throughs to do but figured I'd wait till I was playing on the PC. Got DS1 on Steam just waiting for GFWL to disappear before I start..

Dark Souls 2 is a brilliant game. For me, however, it's just not nearly as brilliant as the previous two.

You really are a mazoge enthusiast, aren't you :p

Its actually to improve ones skills in the game, since you put a lot more thought into your actions and reading the situation around you.

Gives a whole new life to the game thats for sure lol.

Definitely do play it asap, it's an incredible game. I still need to play Demon's Souls myself, I don't have a Ps3 anymore though, so I'm hoping it shows up on PS Now in the future, or I might borrow a Ps3 from a friend or something.

As for the footage in the OP, mmghh, can't wait for E3. It wouldn't make much sense for it to be a 2014 title, but if Miyazaki and his team really started working on this right after they finished the Artorias DLC, that might as well be a possibility. Either way, it looks great.

I had only just started playing and still hadn't really gotten a grasp on the game. When Beasts was announced I thought it would be more fun to play it fresh without really knowing much about anything.

That and I really want to finish my PS3 backlog so I can get it get the console out of my house.

Did this thread really have nearly 800k views since yesterday? o_O When i first saw it, i thought it was the old Project Beast thread.

Im disappointed it hasnt reached 2 million considering this is actual "footage" where the other was just stills lol.

Ive been playing Demon's Souls for a month since the leak of Project Beast. The game is just so damn fun, level design and secrets keep me coming back.

I finished Demon's and Dark multiple times.

Because all three games got the same gameplay. No wonder that people get burned out at some point.

I have to admit that i dont know whats common when its comes to number of thread views with "megaton" news, but seeing that its currently at 770k in under one day, that amazed me. The other thread did have some screenshots by the way :)

How many of you actually finished all three?

Me, Me, Me !

Recently I tried playing some Dark Souls 1 again. I was shocked. Shocked at how much better combat is. The weighty feel of the character, even animations... IMO, what DS2 does better compared to its predecessor are cloth physics and it also has some very cool armor designs(half of which only look good thanks to cloth physics)... that's about it

Reasonable point.

But when I replayed DeS and DS1 after DS2's release I found them more fun. :/

DS2 has many tedious levels.Earthen Peak, Huntsman's Copse, Iron Keep, Brighstone Cove....

You should stop thinking of From as two seperate teams. They have many people who work on many different projects. There will be people who have worked on Armored Core, Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2 and Project Beast.
Thank you for dropping some sense and logic. Getting kind of fed up of all these self-proclaimed business analysts and experts on game dev who pop out of the woodwork on such occasions. Sometimes it's no wonder that From stays out of the public eye and lets BN handle all the shit that western "fans" dish out.
demon and dark souls were made by the same director, lead programmer, and lead graphics designer. Dark souls 2 was not. And it shows.
You completely missed his point. There is more to this company than just an "A and B team".
Music is nice. Can't say much about what its about from just that trailer, looks like dark souls with new gear? those game are not easy, i fell alot on DS2.
The music is from Demon's Souls and was just pasted over the existing (silent) clips. What you saw was not a trailer in the traditional sense.

I hope they take their time to finish this game, I want it to be awesome... and I'll probably buy a PS4 when it comes out.

How many of you actually finished all three?

I have the first 2 Platinum'd, finished Dark Souls 2 about a week ago on PC.

Dark Souls 2 was kinda crappy, even if I enjoyed it anyways. I might replay Demon's Souls instead.

While I enjoyed my time spent with Dark Souls 2, I left the game rather disappointed. I've never even got around to finishing it, I've gotten very close both times but the game just isn't enjoyable towards the end, it's simply just frustrating.

Frustrating how? The game (for most people) get's more focused during the second half.
