Got MK with it, I wasn't really impressed by the graphics, it looks kinda washed out close up, but just seeing the game in 60 fps is awe inspiring.
I felt the same way with UMvC3, except the character models in that game are actually on par with the ones in the console version.
Played the Demo for Rayman and that game looks unbelievable on the Vita screen. It's gorgeous. I'll probably pick that up down the road.
You should. It's one of the best platformers available on the system (and on the HD twins, as well).
Played the Demo for Gravity Rush and that looks great as well. The combat and gravity shifting mechanic is fun. My only question regarding this one is if it has any replay value? Does the combat get more complex? Seems like a good purchase all the same though some day
There
technically is replay value in the form of repeating missions for better scores or times, but it's not implemented too well because retrying missions involves sitting through unfortunate load times. The combat does get more complex but in the sense that it becomes broader, not deeper. By the end of the game, you'll be managing enemies 360 degrees around you and have a modest variety of techniques at your disposal; just don't expect a character action game in terms of button combinations and stuff. It's still a very unique game that warrants attention, so I suggest keeping it in mind for the future if you're not totally sold on it right now.
I downloaded Half Minute Hero, which I already own, to see what it looks like on the Vita screen, and it looks good. You can see the pixels or whatever though since the image is stretched out I guess. Is this the case for 3D psp games as well? Does any smoothing or anything get applied to PSP games on the Vita? I noticed the load times in HMH were way faster.
Digital versions of PSP games generally load quite a bit faster than their UMD counterparts, though I'm not sure the Vita can load them any faster than a PSP could. Also,
every PSP game I've tried looks better on a Vita, but that's mostly due to the screen and not any sort of additional processing.
Also I don't know if I'm really feeling the dual analogs. I tried the demo for Super Stardust and it feels really loose. The PSP nub was way too resistive, and it looks like they went too hard in the other direction for these sticks. It'll be interesting to play CoD when it comes out.
They definitely take a while to get used to. I've grown to like them and vastly prefer them to the PSP nub and circle pad at this point.
The PSN store on the Vita looks fantastic. It's really slick and well designed. Perfect touch interface.
It has some quirks, like, sometimes, the sliding interface won't load content properly. I think it could be better, but it's nice to hear that you're enjoying it. Congrats on your purchase!
