PS4 and Xbox One France hardware sales.

Huh for whatever reason I thought the XB1 would do better there. Guess it's likely more of a supply issue than anything

Europe has always been partial to the Playstation brand in the current/last gen, even with the price difference favoring Xbox 360. It's obviously not going to change now...

Which is a great thing, it might make MS humble enough to actually invest in some great teams/games.

I'm glad i"m not the only one thinking like this. Now that MS can't sit back and toss out Halo/Forza/Gears and still lead in sales, they have to build some 1st party studios or keep buying out 2nd/3rd party exclusives (which will be extremely expensive in a year or so) and offer some real value. They can step up their digital sales or offer something like Amazon PSN and make Games for Gold actually stand up to PS+. Maybe they'll put apps outside of the paywall.

I don't know where people got the idea of parity in sales being good for the consumer. A clear winner and loser is what benefits us the most.

Not a surprise... The PS4 is going to paint the world blue with the exception of the US, where it is more of a 50/50 split. If Sony didn't have a shortage, numbers would have been much, much worse.

MS doesn't really care about any market besides the US, but somehow they are praised as "smart" for flooding the US with supply. The sad fact is, they HAVE to flood the US with supply, because no other country really wants it. Sony, on the other hand, is still just trying to fill preorders on a world wide basis.

It's WAY too early to call but I wouldn't be surprised if this generation ends up being a similar repeat of the PS2/Xbox/GameCube era.

Highly doubt it. Too many devices to play games on + the impact the PS2 had probably will never be repeated.

No console has a feature that's similar to the impact "a cheap DVD player" had back in 2000/2001. Also no new console has the same graphical leap from the previous gen like the PS2 did during the time.

Sony's current margins over the XB1 would have to increase exponentially for that to be the case, particularly in the United States, and Japan's gaming habits have changed considerably since that generation, shifting away from consoles to handhelds and mobile gaming.

That and the fact that the Wii U is selling considerably worst than the Gamecube, and the XB1 is not only selling better than the OG Xbox, but if it weren't for the Playstation 4, its launch would be a record pace in many countries.

Amusing considering how heavy handed their marketing push has been here: they have that Zlatan endorsement, all these good looking FIFA commercials and they've been demoing Forza in stores 24/7 (while Sony had Knack).

So technically, going after the FIFA/racing demo, they had the right idea.

Except, I guess, that very demo still has a deep brand loyalty towards Sony here.
And that price point obviously.

thank you Europe for rejecting Xbox. It's pretty much over for Xbox in every country except the states. It's their fault for ignoring the world with the 360 and the bone.

Not that any of this really matters as long as both are profitable but looking at all these numbers it is clear that most territories don't amount to shit when compared to North America. So Microsoft focusing on North America seems smarter than caring if 1000 japenese people buy the console.

Sure are some numbers. When could we expect accurate worldwide numbers?

It's a Sony World

lol
An awesome start for Sony this gen. I'm sure it will even out eventually. God knows there need to be some competition.

In case people are bad at math, this means PS4 is more than 3x as popular as Xbone in France.

I think that's not too far from the ratio PS3:360, too. So not too surprising everything considered (especially since the price difference should be less impactful for the launch crowd)

I've heard of reassurance posts but wow man...

That's because we have lots of money but are only ranked 37st in education. Remember when MS told us they were focused on customers who don't really pay attention to the details? This is what they were talking about.

The French prefer fine wine to pop.

I'm french and some of the demand during the launch weeks were ridiculous.
Right now you can get a PS4 new on some reselling websites for 650€ (i'm in a region where the supplies are poor )

Worst thing is that i think it will still sell at that price. ( considering the huge demand )

I concur with the too early part. XB1 is a livingroom play. Don't be surprised mid/late 2014 MS get the deals to start bundling XB1 with cable/sat providers.

Yep Xbox one owners are just dumb. Or maybe some people like what it offers in comparison to the ps4

PS2 and DS both sold more units in Europe than in US. These countries matter when you put them together.

You have the wrong person if you think I really give two shits about console wars (only thing I care about is both get games). This was more an observation at how fast thing sell in each territory. If I'm not mistaken a couple days ago each were floating numbers that they hit a million sales in north america in a month. Sorry if it is hard to find 100k or 50k substantial when compared but you know just like most people here you just say some shit like salt, apologist, or any other sentiment that you are in one camp or the other.

Still wondering how these sales fit with preorder numbers of 5:1. Cause they don't. Basically both consoles sell out, even in Germany Xbox One is sold out in most places until the 29th. PS4 will be back in stock in February. Crazyness everywhere, it's been too long for the last generation. We might not get really comparable numbers until mid-2014 when both are finally in large enough stock.
