PS4 and Xbox One France hardware sales.

PS2 and DS both sold more units in Europe than in US. These countries matter when you put them together.

I guess for me I could never see xbox as number one globally. It took a colossal fuck up by Sony with price and the time the ps3 dropped for xbox to get ahead and that was whittled away over time. So in this case I still think it is more advantageous for them to make sure they get as much footing as they can in one of the few regions that really supports them.

Only two pages, but already many funny console war quotes.

lol, yeah, this one is by far my favorite.

Not that any of this really matters as long as both are profitable but looking at all these numbers it is clear that most territories don't amount to shit when compared to North America. So Microsoft focusing on North America seems smarter than caring if 1000 japenese people buy the console.

It doesn't matter! Only sales in the U.S. matter! lol

On PC & 360
It'll still push systems for Xbox One, just like Ghosts and Battlefield 4 is pushing systems. It's better experiences on Xbox One compared to 360, and its being advertised as a Xbox One game, people will buy a system for it.

Titanfall is just a little boat to get people onboard before Halo comes along and is the big yacht Xbox One needs for 2014. From all the 2014 games confirmed so far, Halo has the most mainstream appeal and will have the most pull. Nothing Sony can put out will match Halo's power. :P

Halo doesn't matter. The first Xbox had two halos when it was at its peak popularity and did not outsell ps2. Look at how many halos 360 got and ps3 still ended up outselling it. Halo will not push it passes ps4. There is nothing they can do, ps4 is going to outsell them globally.

You are misunderstanding what I am saying. I'm not saying that only sales in the U.S. matters. I am saying that focusing on the US at the moment seems right because clearly they don't get the same market share that they get other places.

People proclaiming the XB1 is in bad shape are funny.

With that said, I have no doubt the XB1 is going to be an even more U.S centric console than the 360 was. I don't see any way the PS4 doesn't beat it in worldwide sales over the next 5 years. The only question is by how much.

Man, what's the point of introducing new IPs?... it's already over guys. MS needs to pack it up.

Still wondering how these sales fit with preorder numbers of 5:1. Cause they don't. Basically both consoles sell out, even in Germany Xbox One is sold out in most places until the 29th. PS4 will be back in stock in February. Crazyness everywhere, it's been too long for the last generation. We might not get really comparable numbers until mid-2014 when both are finally in large enough stock.

It's almost like both are selling out of their stock allocations. At least that's true on the PS4, I expect the same on the XB1 side but have heard they're on shelves in other European countries so not sure.

But yeah those pre-orders exist and are yet unfulfilled

Just because you want it to be true doesn't mean it will be. You're essentially saying that millions of people are going to jump in on buying a $500 system for two games, one of which is playable on their existing 360 or PC and the other of which is a franchise that has consistently lost it's fanbase over the past couple years. Sure, I think both games will move some consoles, but I seriously doubt it's going to put MS in the competitive situation you want it to.

Just if someone is interested (who would be ;) ): Cyberport in Hamburg had some xbox ones standing around yesterday.

Who said anything about Halo making the Xbox One outsell the PS4? I didn't. I just said Halo will be the biggest system seller this year, and it will be.

Which Sony has more experience with. Anyways, do you seriously believe the Xbox one will outsell the ps4 globally? Even with how terrible ps3 started it tied and exceeded the 360. the ps4 will just continue that. Unlike the xbox it actually sells in many other countries.

You have the wrong person if you think I really give two shits about console wars (only thing I care about is both get games). This was more an observation at how fast thing sell in each territory. If I'm not mistaken a couple days ago each were floating numbers that they hit a million sales in north america in a month. Sorry if it is hard to find 100k or 50k substantial when compared but you know just like most people here you just say some shit like salt, apologist, or any other sentiment that you are in one camp or the other.
You are both bad in arithmetic and geography :-)

I love both my consoles but the narrative that the xb1 is only for dumb Americans is gross.

No not like that, it's something Don Mattrick said in one of his many colourful interviews about the general public not paying attention to all the stuff people on the internet were angry over the Xbox One for, if only my google fu didn't suck. :|

???

Okay? Doesn't mean that the new IPs that MS (or Sony for that matter) makes can't become "the new Halo".

No, I don't think the Xbox One will outsell it globally just based on price and the popularity of the Playstation brand in other areas.

However, it can still do well -- especially with the huge space that Nintendo has left in comparison to last gen.

I see your point. Especially because xbox one only supports ntsc

For Microsoft to even think about filing that hole Nintendo left with the Wii, they're going to need a Kinect killer app or something to capture the imagination and be at least $200 less than where it is now. It'll be harder for MS to grab that particular crowd the more time goes on.

I can barely walk through a Target or Best Buy without tripping over an Xbone. Let's please stop pretending that they are in any way scarce.

Seriously. There was an end cap at my local Target with about twelve X1s sitting on the shelves and there were still people asking employees behind the counter when they expected to get in more PS4s.

It was Mehdi, who's still in charge of marketing, talking to Ars.

Oh well I didn't know that. I sure do feel dumb and I own an Xbox one. Coincidence? Maybe not.

I concur with the too early part. XB1 is a livingroom play. Don't be surprised mid/late 2014 MS get the deals to start bundling XB1 with cable/sat providers.

and precisely how would that benefit cable/sat providers? It's a nice Idea, but it's not happening as no one wants to give away $500 hardware on top of hardware your already giving away (DVR) With a standard minimum 12 month contract a cable company would have to charge an additional $40 a month to get anywhere near making that money back.

Nevermind the fact that the cable company would be driving people away from their own Service/UI and towards a competitors Services/UI.

Bundling with cable providers is a pipedream that should never and likely will never happen.

Once the new Halo starts getting advertised it will sell a lot of Xbox ones for the people just waiting for some games before they adopt next Gen. Great exclusive games can sell a lot of consoles. I had a lot of friends who had no interest in the ps3 until uncharted 2.

I think it's clear that Europe prefers PS4 over the Xbox One. With that said that doesn't mean the Xbox One will be severely lacking behind in sales...I think a lot of American teens will love the X1 and continue the Xbox route because of the 360. However, I do think that the PS4 will have a much stronger presence in the early years of this generation compared to the PS3 obviously. I love both consoles and I hope they both do well.

So you say there is none available in your area, but you haven't looked?

OK, I'm convinced.
I never said that. I was in 2 stores on Friday and checked if they were in supply and they weren't. I'm sure I might have found one in a store if I had called some of the other stores in the area. I'm just saying that in my area i have checked stores out of curiosity and they haven't always been available. I have no doubt the ps4 sells better because i have only seen one on a shelf yet.

Plus, starting in June, cable providers will be required to support IPTV streaming to any device you want — computer, iPad, PlayStation, XBox, etc. — via DLNA Premuim Video Profile.

This will make the HDMI pass-through even less useful, as you'll just be using a native app to watch all your TV, regardless of the device.
