Did they mention that all that 8gb ram is for games?
With that kind of social service running in the background and sharing thing how much will be left for gaming? 6gb?
Worst case assumption is since they could not decrease the OS footprint as plan to 512mb, they then had to compensate by increasing the pool

This is what the WiiU did and Iwata said that they are looking to reduce 1024MB OS footprint in half.
That looks good.
Speaking of Knack, the intro part that focused on the building didn't sit right with me. It looked like CG but a blurry kind of CG.
Now, looking forward to see what they do about Durango's twice-as-powerfull CPU. A hint for Sony - go to 16 cores![]()

Just a week ago everyone was creaming over 4GB of RAM, but now that we have 8GB of RAM there is a lot of people coming from under the bridge to say it won't make it a difference, that it is a bad design decision?
As if you thought Shadow Fall looked great in its current form just imagine what upgrades its going to get just by optimizing the engine designed around 4GB and then modifying the engine to accommodate double the amount of vRAM!
This is going to be an interesting gen indeed.

From 4GB to 8GB? Seriously?
Personally, I'm really happy they've upped the RAM to 8Gb, so that MSFT couldn't say they have twice as much - the general public won't care about the bandwidth discussion as it's too esoteric and only understood (?) by enthusiasts. Too bad however that this move will most likely back fire in the price (or Sony's subsidy) of the console. Having said that, I feel it was a last minute decision (which some devs since confirmed) and was not backed-up by actual technical requirements, as general consensus was thus far that 4Gb of GDDR5 with much lower OS footprint and higher b/w will be enough. Hope that until launch they can somehow change that to stacked 8Gb of GDDR4, to retain the b/w and size, while reducing the cost (if that's possible).

What twice as powerful CPU?
Durango has the same CPU as orbis ...
Search the Durango vs. Orbis thread - it's been speculated that Durango's Jaguar cores are basically able to process two instructions in the same time when Orbis' CPU would do a single one, because of some bus/register expanded from 64bit to 128bit (take this last part with big grain of salt - I don't know what I'm talking about). The point of all this is however, that 2x faster CPU adds only 100 GFlops to the system, while Orbis' GPU is 600GFlos faster - but again, that's quite esoteric.

No, we really don't know about this. The PS4 OS was rumored to use 512MB of ram, and thus far no other rumor suggested otherwise.
Zup bro. So what you're basically saying is they showcased the lowest possible "high end" tech demo on KZSF(if that makes any sense)? When they utilize more RAM they should be able to drastically improve on KZSF visuals right?
I'm really buzzed about the other titles they have under development for PS4 aswell, just imagine how the next Naugtydog games will look like or the next Santa Monica Studios games will look like. I mean Sucker Punch is an amazing studio and Second Son looked orgasmic and that was truly a nextgen game, but in my honest opinion both Naughtydog and Santa Monica Studios have outdone Sucker Punch interms of visuals in PS3 gen. So imagine how much better visually their games will be compared to the jawdroppingly gorgeous Infamous Second Son.
At the PlayStation Meeting yesterday, Sony revealed that its new console ships with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, not the 4GB we previously reported. It was a pleasant surprise not just for us, but also for many game developers out there working on PS4 titles now and completely unaware of the upgrade - a final flourish to the design seemingly added in at the last moment...

Nice, but where you see "volumetric" here? The smoke/fire/particles do not interact with geometry, so those might as well be 2D sprites...

"a lot of people" is a bit of a stretch, there's only been a couple in this thread.
Everyone that thinks 7.5GB of ram is for devs to make games with is just fooling themselves.

Even if it's only 7Gb. It's still massive.
Knack is really flying under the radar. I thought it looked great.

I think it has to do with the artstyle.

Look at left down corner and look how explosion behave. Mind you it is trailer we don't know if it is prerecorded but volumetric fog isn't newest hot thing. It was in Stalker kind of 2009. It is noticeable jump because PS3 or X360 simply didn't have bandwidth and size to do them.
We just don't know a whole lot about it. The fact that Cerny has been working on it says that it will probably end up being a bigger deal than we've made it out to be so far though.Knack is really flying under the radar. I thought it looked great.
Nothing meaningful. Here's a question. Let's say MS announces 8gb of 3 RAM. Sony has 8gb of 5 RAM.
What exactly does this mean for games? If Call of Duty 20 was made for each system in 2014, what kind of graphical differences would there be?
I'm sorry but what does GDDR3 differ from GDDR4 or 5?

Wait didn't they show footage of Knack running on Vita or was that a different game? I was extremely impressed by the trailer when I thought it was real time but the gameplay looked completely different.
I might be wrong, but the comments are not about size, but type of the RAM - it's great to have 8Gb, but it doesn't need to be GDDR5. Adding that is pointless when you're limited by the GPU. For example nVidia's Titan has 6Gb of GDDR5 and is like 6-8x more powerfull than PS4's GPU - if they felt it's better of with 8 or 10Gb they'd put it there, because at this price 100$ more is not an issue anymore![]()
