PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I have a question...after I install the updates, can I delete all the files? like the GAME150 File, and the rest of the stuff in the GAME folder.

I guess, if you want. But the huge draw of going to homebrew is to run programs from your GAME folder. GAME150 is for older 1.50 Kernel programs.

Your plugin is correctly installed if you can enabled it.

As faceless master already stated. If your game is FF7 for example.

/PSP/GAME/FF7/

DC V4 has been released that will flash PSP to 3.80 M33-5 instead of 3.71 M33-2 of the old DC V3.

When a new compatible version of UPMS is released with integrated DC V4, I'll update my tutorial.

On a separate note, any tips on where to get a cheap 4gb MemStick? I've been looking around and they seem to average around $60. Is this a good price or should I look around for a better one?

Anywhere but eBay or DealExtreme. Sandisk or Sony, avoid Lexar.

last week Best Buy had them for 59. discount of 20

i should have bought one

Keep on eye out at Buy.com. They have typically slow as fuck shipping, but I buy all of my mem sticks, sd cards, etc., from them.

I've gotten 3 4GB mem sticks for $30-35, 2GB SD cards and 2GB micro SD cards for $17, etc. Sandisk and Kingston, respectively.

If you already have a Datel TOOL battery, you can make the Pandora MS part using a program called TotalNewbieEasyInstaller found here.

I should enable you to make the make Pandora MS using DC V3 which is Slim PSP compatible,

I've tried that TotalNewbieEasyInstaller but it gets an error at the end of writing stuff to the MS saying:

Load IPL Code

Cannot Open Logical Drive

Any ideas?

I'm currently on 3.40 oe-a and have kinda lagged in keeping my firmware up to date.

What reasons are there for upgrading to 3.80 m33? Improved popsloader or something?

You're able to update your firmware through the Network Update and get M33 releases to upgrade through there, no more messing with downloads and files, it just downloads to the Duo and installs like normal sony updates. Also you get internet radio... and uhhh.. better remote play? some people experience problems with it on 3.71 (I didn't) but some did.

I have a Lexar from Fry's.com. Got it for $40.

Works fine. No problems.

I got in on the same deal and got 2. Ultra II works great with zero problems at all using CFW.

Question:

When I got my SLIM I immediately upgraded to the latest firmware which at the time was 3.71 m33-4. I never got a chance to test out the slim without the CFW. I'm experiencing VERY slow transfer speeds through USB to the memory card. Is this normal for slims? Do they read/write slower than the fat PSP's? The memory card performs VERY quickly on the fat PSP but on the slim transferring 300mb will take maybe 3-4minutes, while on the Fat transferring 1.5GB would take 4minutes.

A few friends have some old bricked psp's they asked me to unbrick using my pandora battery.

Is the process just the same as downgrading?

thanks but yea...there's just no perfect snes emulator. try loading up contra 3 or even castlevania 4 on this particular emu...slow city.
Really? I get pretty good performance out of Castlevania 4. Have you got your processor overclocked to 333 MHz through the restore menu?

Edit: Just to clarify: I've got the processor set to 333 MHz in the restore menu AND from within the emulator's built-in menu. I'm able to average around 55 FPS on Castlevania 4 in full screen with full sound.

Is your Memory Stick a fake? IPL failure to write usually only happens on fake MS

Yes its the same as downgrading/installing CFW tutorial. You are erasing and re-flashing their flash0/1 and loading on fresh firmware after they bricked their PSP

you should set up your pandora stick with despertar del cementerio v4 and just one-shot it

you on vista? that causes problems too.

Nope XP SP2. It's doing my head in now that i can't get this sorted. Luckily someone at work has a PSP with Custom Firmware and if i can't sort this myself he's going to do it for me.

Successfully got my Slim to custom firmware. Absolutely delighted. Heading to get PSPTube right now, is there any other 'must have' programs out there that you more experienced users recommend?

No, my transfer speeds never changed going from OFW to CFW. The only exception was one of the earlier versions of 3.80 M33. But I hear that's been fixed.

Well when you can run marvel vs capcom and not kirby super star you know someone dropped the ball. It sucks since snes was the console I had the most games for. Figured it would be a given.

Still getting this damn error, 3.71 M33-4 ... I've tried various locations of the 3.80 file as well as the 3.80 M33 file. Wtf am I doing wrong?

My Slim transfers are slow too [~750MB in 6-7 minutes]... then again, I'm using Vista and transferring files in Vista is soooo slow...

Do patched roms work on these PSP SNES emulators? I've been craving me some Radical Dreamers lately.
no reason they wouldn't??? I think?

Also I installed the 1.50 fix when I did 3.70, do I have to do it again for 3.80? Also for some reason I can't get Remote Play over the internet to work (in the same room it works great).

Yes, you need to install the 1.50FW addon again for 3.80 M33.
Do you have remote play over internet enabled on PS3?

So, now with 3.80 M33-5, is there any reason to stick around with 3.71 M33-4, or am I good to upgrade?

You need to forward the ports etc for over the internet.
The PS3 is in a DMZ, so no ports should need to be forwarded? Installing the 1.50 update fixed my SNES emu, so thats all good, but I want to play PixelJunk Monsters at school tomorrow :lol

There's no real problems any more.

The memory stick issue is fixed for the most part, but that's actually an issue with official 3.80 but I haven't had any issues.

You can check the community sites for more information but I think for the most part everything is okay now.

Your the expert on PSP matters!!
I think its safe to upgrade to 3.80 M33-5 now using M33-driver NO UMD mode.
Just make your Pandora on 3.71 M33-4 to be safe.

I had this exact problem with my friend's PSP the other day when I was trying to install the newest firmware. Some of the early downgraders for TA-082 motherboards - which someone had used to install 1.5 on his TA-082 PSP - fucked around with the keys and the Sony upgraders (which M33 now uses to install) will refuse to install on them, deliberately or not. Newer 'clean' downgraders are wise to the problem and will put the key back how it was as part of their installation process, so I'm assuming at some point in the past you downgraded your PSP fairly soon after TA-082 was cracked.

Run KeyCleaner 1.4 and it'll probably tell you that key 5 is bad. Fix it and then unpatch it, and then the installer should run without a problem.

I've been hesitant ever since I got burned by the quick update before. And the Sony ISO Loader is still broken? That's enough to put a halt to it for me, then. Thanks.
