PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Hahaha, that's pretty slick.

It wasn't hard once I figured out how you always had to use the official f/w alongside the custom ones, but it's a bit time consuming for a simple firmware update. Glad to know this is improving. I would assume the auto update feature will no longer require the user to hunt down the official firmware, rather, it download it from Sony and then the one from DA?

I would imagine, but since there is absolutely nothing above 3.80 (official) currently, and consequently, no corresponding M33 version, we have no way of knowing.

However, I won't be surprised to learn that major updates (such as say, 3.81 M33 or 4.00 M33) have to be manually done, just like before; that only the M33-x patches are handled via Network Update.

Ahh. Well, run the key cleaner anyway. It couldn't hurt. But what's stopping you from upgrading past 3.52 M33-4? What error?

To rip games there's a couple utilities out there. The easiest way is to hit select on the XMB, select the UMD drive and drag the ISO to the desktop. Then (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) compress it to a CSO using any CSO compressor you find on Google.
Then put the ISO in X:\ISO\
(Also, try to switch to the official Sony ISO loader)

Thanks (you too Mejilan). One more question - what is the benefit of switching to the official Sony ISO loader?

Okay, NEWB question. I had someone upgrade my PSP Slim to CFW 3.71 M33 4. Now, I want to create my own Pandora Battery and magic memory stick. I've seen most of the steps listed around here somewhere but one thing wasn't to clear. Can I know create a Pandora Battery using my PSP-slim without any hard modding to the battery itself? Can I just run a program that is capable of doing this of my CFW PSP Slim and be finished?

It's more compatible than the M33 loader or other loaders with some games.

It's more compatible and faster.

Look up Navanman's UPMS Installer tutorial. UPMS is awesome, and it works on both a fatty and a slim.

Are M33 firmwares compatible with the JSO format?

Is that some kind of compressed ISO format? Because M33 only innately recognizes ISOs and CSOs for PSP games. Additionally, a PSOne's eboot wrapper can contain either a regular PSOne disc ISO, or a compressed PSOne disc ISO.

Are 8 gig memory sticks compatible with the PSP? Also, Sandisk is the way to go, right?

Yep and yep.

I just updated to 3.80 M33-5 on my PSP phat for the purposes of remote play. Hook it up to the PS3 (currently on the highest firmware) and go to register device. PSP is on remote play.

No PSP device detected =(

I've heard other reports that remote play should be working fine, any ideas?

Yeah I put the PSP in USB mode. The PS3 even detects it as a usb device (I can access the pictures etc. from it)

But no dice on remote play registration.

you have to register the device first. you need to hook it up with a usb cable, iirc.

Yeah that's the problem. When I go to register the device, the PSP is in USB mode and the PS3 is in the remote play register menu. But when I try to register it, it doesn't detect the PSP

So I've got 3.80 m33-2 on my slim psp......quick question........

If I want to get the newest "m33" update I can just auto update regularly as if I were doing a regular Sony FW update, but instead it will give me the newest m33 CFW?

3.90 is out, any bets on how long it will take for the CFW version of it is out?:D :lol

From psp-hacks
Sony has released firmware version 3.90. Those sleek Slim owners now have official Skype support; while us Fat lamers, including myself, only get added support for PLAYSTATION®Network titles

Yes. All In-Version updates are cumulative.

Awesome!

Has anyone here actually tried it yet....., and if so, what CFW are you using now?
Yeah it works fine. Updated from the initial 3.80 m33 release to -4 and then from -4 to -5 using the network update mechanism.

Dark_Alex has said on the Maxconsole forums that it's an "easy firmware" (you can actually get it working with 90% functionality just by overwriting the 3.80 M33 files with their official 3.90 equivalents if you have a Pandora setup with flash0 USB access) and that he's working on it. Since it apparently won't require too much fiddling it should be pretty quick. Hopefully...

Got myself a Piano Black PSP Slim & Lite today. Got one stuck pixel, which doesn't really bother me that much. Any way to attempt to fix it by myself?

Oh and any suggestions where to get dirt cheap 4Gb memory sticks?

navanman

And so is the 1.50 kernel addon.

First person to use Network Update, gets a prize, hopefully not a surprise.

whats new in 3.90 ??

Code:
Changes:

- 3.80 -> 3.90
- March33 NO UMD: fixed (yet another) bug related with exiting with home. (infinite semaphore wait)

Changes in updater:

- The degeneration check and correction of IDS keys happens too in 3.71 now.
- Added code to download 3.90 PBP from net via wifi.
Note that his code is not yet 100% stable, it may crash when selecting AP. In that case,
  reinit the installer.
- L+triangle has been restored as method to bypass battery.
If you already have 390.PBP keep those buttons pressed until you see "Veryfing 390.PBP".
If the 390.PBP is being downloaded bia wifi, press those buttons at the end of download until
  you see the previous sentence.

right...skype...god i hope dark_alex or someone else crackes this shit and brings it to psp fat...
According to Sony it's a technical issue that prevents them bringing Skype to the old PSPs (the slim has more flash space and twice the RAM). That's probably true, but I probably wouldn't bet against someone coming up with some solution to run it from the Memory Stick or something. The return of Devhook?

I'll pass this time, I'll stick with my 3.80 M33-5 I have a fat psp anyway. Wonder what 4.0 will bring ... Home perhaps?? Can you still play PS1 games with 3.90 with 1.50 add-on via popsloader with the fat psp?

Nah, that's my fat PSP that I use for homebrew stuff that requires 1.5. I've got a slim that I use for playing games and going online.

Besides, I couldn't remove it anyway since you've quoted it now.

If I want to goto 3.90 can I go directly there with a download of the release? Meaning I don't have to goto 3.80 first?

Requeriments:

- Installation requires a PSP with 3.52 M33-3 or higher.

Haha, that was fast, Dark Alex. You fucking rock.

I'm still sitting pretty with 3.71 M33-4, however.

Edit - Does the 3.80 M33 POPSLoader work with this, or will we have to wait?

Didn't say anything in the change log so I doubt it =\. I have never had any issues though.
