What's happened is that your battery is still in Pandora mode, which means the PSP will not boot normally with it inserted. However, your Memory Stick is set up to launch the normal PSP firmware if you don't press anything during a Pandora boot -- this is likely left over from when you did the procedure.
Best thing to do is put a recent GEN on the system, if it isn't installed already, and hit Select to bring up the VSH menu and choose "Make Normal Battery." Then, turn your PSP all the way off, remove the battery and re-insert it, then try booting it without the Memory Stick installed.
(I had to help a friend who bricked his PSP-2000 the other day, which is why I remember all this.)
