PSP Custom Firmware Thread

What did you do to get the PSP2 demo running? I'm on 5.50 Prometheus and I can't get shit to work for it.

On M33-6 I just had the 6.20prx plugin(installed to play Peace Walker). Worked for Persona 3 also. For the 6.20PRX make sure you have the GAME Plugins set to enabled or Plugins set to GAME (don't remember, also done in the M33-6 recovery menu, haven't tried/installed Prometheus yet) and not just Plugins:Enabled. I don't know how Prometheus does it though.

Did you download straight of the PSP or did you download on the PS3(what I did) then copy it into the PSP?

To dump a UMD, just changed the USB Device setting in the VSH Menu to UMD Disc and connect the PSP to your computer with USB Mode. There's no reason at all to use a program to dump UMDs.

Unless you want to dump direct to the memory stick instead of using a computer as an intermediate.

Aeana said:
I use UMDumper, since it dumps right to the PSP memory stick. EDIT: Actually, it seems to have issues with GEN. Boo.

Just ripped Half-Minute Hero on 5.50 Prometheus using this app. The only issue I experienced was that the built in Arkanoid clone minigame to play while stuff is ripping didn't work properly. Booted fine. Thanks very much for the suggestion.

Edit: Ripping Final Fantasy II no problem as well.
Edit: Ripped WTF
Edit: Ripped Downstream Panic
Edit: Ripped Crush

Yeah, it definitely works.

Straight to the PSP; I can't imagine that copying it from the PS3 would have made that much of a difference.

Maybe it's a Prometheus quirk right now.

I am on Prometheus and I am enjoying the PSP2 demo. I downloaded the demo on my PS3 then installed it on my PSP. Did you use your PSP to get the demo?

I really don't know why it would make a difference either. But that is how I put the demo on my PSP and I have had no problems with it. I also put the VC2 demo on my PSP from my PS3 and it works perfectly too. If you are really wanting to play the demo it might be something to try.

I did this too. It works. I downloaded PSP2 demo with my PSP, but it can't start it. Downloading it to PS3 and copy to my psp got it working.

Wish the OP could be updated with info that isn't years old.

Same questions are asked over and over in this thread. I think a lot of us would appreciate some updated info on the scene.

Stumpokapow, can you update it? Not sure if Mejilan wants to.

If someone writes some info, I'm happy to edit the post, but I don't have a damn clue how any of this stuff works since I've barely turned on my CFW PSP in years. So, someone should step up :p

What do I have to do to get Ys VII working? I installed Prometheus v.5 and the game works from the UMD, but the rip I made won't boot.

Not sure if this is the right thread...

I'm looking for a program to take my PS1 save file OFF my PS3. Move it to my PC, modify the save file with something like a cheat program to change names/values and then put it BACK ON the PS3.

Running on CFW 5.50 Gen D3 or 5.50 Prometheus?

Nevermind. It's running now. I installed 5.50 Prometheus Ver. 5. I updated it earlier today. I thought I used Ver. 5, but apparently not.

Just move the PS1 save to a memory stick and copy it to your PC.
You may have to convert the save to another format to play around with values and such.
And then when you're done just convert back to it's original format and put it back on the PS3.
I do suggest to make a backup because you never know.

That's what I thought but googling isn't helping me. I wish I still had my PSP, I could just use CWcheat...:(

Has anyone tried to play Lunar 2 in picodrive? I make my way up the first tower, and when a cinematic starts to play I hear the sound, but the picture freezes and that's it for the game. Anyone know if the game isn't playable?
Anyone know about this problem?

I'm about to go on a trip so I'm dusting off my old PSP and want to play the new Metal Gear and Ys 7. Last I remember I was on 5.50 CFW. I assume I need to get Prometheus to play these right? Any downsides from going from Gen to Prometheus?

I've been trying to get my old PSX eboots that I ripped myself working on my 5.50 GEN-D3 Prometheus PSP, but I get "The game could not be started. (80000004)" Since I've last played any eboot, I've had to change my settings so much for things like psn lover that I don't even remember the correct settings to play my PSX games anymore. Anyone have any ideas on settings I could change to get my eboots working again?
Sorry to quote myself, but does anyone know settings I could try to get my eboots working again?

I'm on new 5.00 m33 v6. What do I need to access the web and the PSN store? Whenever I try to connect it just keeps trying to connect.
Get Psn lover for PSN store access.

If it worked on 5.50 GEN D3, it should have worked on prometheus whether Psn lover was enabled or not. Have you tried re-ripping it?

Need help. Just updated to GEN-D3 5.50. When I try to access any of my homebrew programs it doesn't work. I thought that it was due to the game folder homebrew being at 5.xx kernel so I switched to 1.5 and the same thing occurs. What should I do?

This isn't just a CFW question per se but figure this would be hte most knowledgeable user base to address my question:

Has anyone actually gotten Remote Play to work off-network? At home it works like an absolute charm whether I choose to connect through private network or "internet" options. But when I'm anywhere else I get a connection timeout. Anyone else successfully had this working and functional? I'd die to take advantage of this in certain time periods if the lag is agreeable.

Not a problem, yeah its a fast install. Glad you got it to work!

Edit:

Do you have Prometheus installed?

I do indeed have Prometheus installed, is there a newer version or a newer add on I'm missing here?

It seems to be in my experience and what looks like some others in the thread that demos (most notably PSP2) need to be transferred from a PS3 to the PSP. There is no reasoning as to why they won't work if you download then directly to your PSP instead of transferring from your PS3 but it seems to be the case. I wonder if it has to do with the install that the PS3->PSP does.

Can I jump straight to 5.5?
I just did this over the weekend using this guide. It's very easy. Upgrade to 5.00 M33-6 and then to 5.50 GEN D3.

Answering my own post.

So I purchased a used PSP-2000 (the white star wars one). It's on OFW 5.51

I have no idea what the motherboard in it is (since it could have been refurbished or serviced at some point). I understand there is PSPIdent which I can use to determine this but I'm uncertain of how best to run homebrew apps like that.

Once you are on OFW higher than 5.03 it is impossible to run PSPIDENT because there are no kernel exploits. HBL will let you run homebrew but PSPIDENT will not work because it requires kernel level access which HBL does not have.

outlawedprod said:
Can I still use Chickenhen to run homebrew on OFW 5.51 (conflicting info I've read on whether the 5.03 OFW requirement is for just firmware flashing or using chickenhen at all).

Chickenhen requires 5.03 OFW. Once past 5.03 firmware you are SOL because OFW cannot downgrade.

outlawedprod said:
There is another homebrew enabler linked in the later part of this thread which I wasn't familiar with beforehand. It looks like I would need to upgrade my firmware to at least 6.1 since that requires the patapon demo to work. Is there any disadvantage to doing this for me (who is sitting at OFW 5.51 right now).

HBL will only run homebrew apps. It requires at least OFW 6.1 so you can use the patapon demo.

Thanks for anyone who can clear this up. I just want to figure out the best way so I can check the mobo (I'm hoping I can go the full custom firmware route but I'm not about to make a pandora battery for no reason).

Once you are past OFW 5.03 there is no way to 100% tell exactly which motherboard version you have. The only thing you can do is make/borrow a pandora battery and MMS and see if you can get into service mode.

So why is it that even though I have the Sony logo start up disabled through recovery it still shows up? I have never been able to get rid of it. Any ideas?

That thing is for the "Sony Computer Entertainment" text that appears when you turn on the PSP from a completely turned OFF state, not the logo that appears when you launch a game.

I don't know where exactly to post this but this seems as good of a place as any because it pertains to the PSP.

So a new way of sharing PSP PSN network games has been discovered.

I'm sure my fellow PSPgo bretheren would be interested in this since we are probably never going to be able to get CFW

*I would post a link on how-to but the link has piracy...and I don't want to get banned*

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
I've never used PSNLover before and just wanted to know if 1.1 is the correct version. I put the .prx in my seplugins folder and changed the region to debug1 and was able to get onto the PSN store, but my account wouldn't sign in; I got a message saying a system software update was needed.

Is there no way around this? I'd like to be able to play Phantasy Star Portable 2 online on my CFW 2000 when it comes out...

I know. Thats what I'm referring to. When you turn the PSP on it still shows up.

Still can't get my account online.

I am using the latest version of Prometheus. I have added ms0:/seplugins/psnlover.prx 1 to both the vsh.txt and game.txt files in the seplug-ins folder.

Anyone get the Phantasy Star Portable 2 demo working on 5.50? I downloaded it to my PS3 and copied it over, disabled plugins and keep getting "The game could not be started" errors :(

edit: nvm found a patched version

I use it with 2 8GB cards and I'm pretty sure Mejilan uses it with 2 16GB cards. Shoot him a PM and ask him.

so at the 2nd attempt i've finally got the adapter, i went for the photofast cr-5400 micro sdhc and x2 16 gb sandisk cards

i can't format the damn things, on the psp it says format failed and with windows format tool - ditto. have amazon sent me two duds because the adapter works with x2 micro sd 2gb cards.

Just a quick question. I updated to 5.50 GEN D3 last week but noticed that Y's wont play, so I'm assuming I need to update to 5.50 Prometheus. Just to make sure, the correct thing to update to is this right?

5.50 Prometheus

I've heard about some Prometheus v6 ISO thing also. I'm not sure what the difference is.

Also, another question. Once I've installed the 5.50 GEN D3 and 5.50 Prometheus updates, so I need to keep the install folders on the memory card still, or can I delete them?

My computer won't recognize my PSP's memory stick via usb any more. :(
I mean, it can tell there's a memory stick, but it says it's only 24 MB big. My computer can't see any of my music files or games or anything, even though my PSP can still play them. It just shows a bunch of wierd folders: codepage, config, data, dic, font, kd, and vsh. It shows these for both memory cards I've tried, so I wonder if that's the contents of the PSP's internal memory?

In any case, I'm pretty sure it only became like this after I installed prometheus 5.50 and used that program to fix the corrupted save data (caused by prometheus), freecheat.

Ahhhhh interesting and that sucks. I guess since I don't have a PS3 I won't be playing any PSN demos.

What about games you buy yourself (from PSN) will they work? I've been contemplating buying some but didn't want to since the I couldn't even get the freaking demos to work.

Thanks for linking that guide! I haven't played my PSP in quite awhile because I was stuck on 3.51 M33 and unable to update to either newer CFW or OFW. Now I'm updated to 5.50 and ready to purchase Valkyria Chronicles 2!

try booting the recovery menu by completely powering down the psp and holding R when you turn it back on, then enable toggle usb and plug it in while still in the recovery menu.
