PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Can custom firmwares be reversed? Today I finally got an AC charger for my modded PSP, and I'm looking to attempt to restore it to its original state; for whatever reason I just don't really care about it being modded anymore, I just want a normal PSP.

IIRC just run an official firmware update. It should erase everthing for the CFW and go back to normal.

That's it? Wow. Would I need to do the uhm... sorry, it's been a while since I've used it, I know there's a way to go into settings by holding R2 and turning on the unit, would I have to do anything with that?

No, just place the update in its "update folder" and run it (again IIRC).

maybe someone else can confirm or deny just incase

I trust you, but I'll wait, because I don't want to screw something up :lol

So you're saying I should download the firmware on my PC and transfer it to a memory stick? can't do it over wi-fi?

The updater is there but i recall the CFW would use their version of the updater so you get updated versions of the CFW (M33 used to do it).

I normally just download the actual files and hook up my psp to transfer them since i have no wifi access and i'm too poor to get a router right now :lol

Ah okay. This CFW is pretty old, I had it done in 2008. Not sure if that matters.

You might be able to do a system update from the psp then but it's really not a big deal. Just download the newest from sony's site and put it in the update folder and run like the other guy said.

Only problem I'm running into is that my main PC is down for the moment, and I'm on my gf's laptop but it doesn't have a memory stick slot. My PSP seems to be having trouble connecting to my wi-fi, all the settings go through and the connection test is successful, but when I go to network update I get a DNS error.

Not sure if that has anything to do with the CFW or not.

in that case just attach your psp to her laptop using those usb cables it should pick up your psp as a removable storage device (as long as a memory stick is in the PSP) and you just move the update file to the appropriate folder.

or what you posted above :lol, forgot the games can come with updates.

I tried that first, the laptop didn't recognize it for whatever reason.

edit: success! It's doing a system update now.

I'm a super CFW noob. I have 5.5 GEN-D right now and everything I play now seems to be fine... what's the benefit of going to this 6.2 TN HEN or whatever, anything new that won't play on 5.5 GD?

No PS1/ISO/CSO support is pretty lame, I don't think I could go back to loading off the umd.
Well my psp isn't getting much use anyway plus they'll probably have unofficial support in like a day or two, so being having to play off the few umds I own till I can rip chrono cross off the psx cds and figure out how to make them into a multi cd eboot will pass my time.

edit - but yeah if you got homebrew already i'd wait till they get everything you want on it.

We have to wait until someone makes an iso loader.

I have my doubts whether anyone even will make an ISO/CSO loader and PS1 Eboot loader. I haven't see any one make an ISO loader since Dark Alex made his way back when he was first making custom firmwares. I don't know if there's anyone out there that can make one.

Is there a way to find out what games the save files are for on the memory stick? I have like fifty games of save files and they're like eating up 20% of my small memory stick up. I only want to save like 2-3 RPG saves and get rid of the rest. How do I pick them apart?

If you put the card into a computer card reader and go to the folders of each save file, the folder has the ICON0 and PIC0 of the game saved in it. You can tell what it is by those images.

Wait, does this also work on TAv089 2000's (or whatever they are)? I might actually be able to get my friend on Kai?

Think it works on everyone of them since it works with the PSP Go.

So I'm still running 5.50 GEN-B. Lots of games that I own and have ripped to the mem card run slow, like the new God of War. I haven't obviously been in the loop here in ages. Any recommendations?

Also, how do I access the hacked system menu? I can't remember!!

Wish my PSPgo were 6.20. h well 6.35 is getting a hen loader soon as well. Buy yeah PSPgo is officially the greatest hand held of all time. Everything negative it had going against it is totally negated with CFW(and recent price drops).

I need some help with a PSP I just got today, its a Slim with 5.00 m33-3. I'm trying to figure out what I can upgrade it to. I just ripped my copy of Daxter to the memory card but it doesn't show up, any tips would be helpful.

I was going to use this guide to upgrade.

I'm following the instructions and I couldn't figure out this part "2 - Reboot the PSP holding the R button, and the go to Configurations->Game folder homebrew, and make sure that it is set to 3.XX/4.XX/5.XX.". When I go to it, it says 1.50 kernal, is it ok to upgrade to it using this?

What do you mean ripped it to the memory card? Where did you put it?

No. TN-A HEN is for the Go and other PSPs that couldn't install custom firmware. It installs an instance of a custom firmware. You have to run it every time you turn the system off and then back on.

Has anyone used the ISO loader yet? How is it?

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
I am tempted to go pick up a second Go for this. Mine is on a later OFW. Would love to be able to play all my Japanese games, plus those unreleased-on-PSN titles like Outrun 2006 now.

Yeah but from what I understand you have to.go through a fairly lengthy process to.load isps every time you turn it on. That's not good imho.

What do you have to do?

My ripped copy of Persona 1 was lagging when any movie would pop up. The audio would be completely out of sync with what was going on. I went back to using my disc but it is so damn slow and constantly loading from the disc for everything.

Is your rip a CSO? I know that the need to uncompress those can lead to stuttering video. You might also want to try it with your PSP's clock speed set to 333 or default, depending on what it currently is.
