PSP Custom Firmware Thread

What's the difference between 5.50 Prometheus-3 v4 and 6.35 PRO-A2. I have 5.50 Prometheus on my PSP but can't stand how long it takes to save/load, and in particular how it's completely incompatible with my pre-Prometheus save files (thankfully I had them backed up on my computer before testing...).

Which should I use?

in my old psp 2000 i had 5.50 and worked fine and all...

but I jumped to 6.35 pro b only to play my ps1 games from the psn store ( they didn´t worked in 5.50)

that was the only reason to jump to 6.35 D:

Yeah, I have a 2000, and I use CFW basically for one reason. Remote Joy Lite. I hate staring at the small screen and LOVE playing PSP games on my 23 inch monitor. But ever since I upgraded to Prometheus from 550GEN-D3, it's been super annoying to play PSP games because

1) I can't use my old saves to pick up where I left off (so I can't play Lunar or Sakura Taisen at the moment without erasing them... sure I have them backed up but still...)
2) Prometheus takes FOREVER to access the Memory Stick, so loading a game and saving the game take several minutes.

I was wondering if this 6.35 Pro B is compatible with my 550GEN-D3 saves and doesn't take forever to save. Or perhaps Prometheus 3 v4 fixes this?

Any help with the above? I can't find any info via google about save compatibility or memory stick access times. I would be most appreciative.

Hey Gaf, I want to put CFW on my PSP-3000 but I'm not sure if it works. I read the OP and I'm still confused on how I can tell or what to do.

Try using the MagicSave plugin - it can address migrating your incompatible saves to a newer firmware version

Hm, never heard of that, I'll give it a shot.

EDIT: Installed the plugin but um... I'm not sure how I'm supposed to use it? I can't find any good guides online, help?

In-game, before you load your savegame, press + and - vol numbers together. You'll get a menu that'll let you do a number of things.

Save Data>Read invalid data> Enable

And then attempt to load your savegame. You only need to do this once, any subsequent new saves will adhere to whatever encryption the new firmware is using.

Wow, thanks! I was looking for an easy way to play my old saves again.

Well, I gotta try and figure out how to patch my Sakura Taisen 1&2 game now. I booted it up to convert my save and while 2 booted with no issues, 1 crashes every time. :/ When I tried to use Game Decrypter it said it couldn't do it (and said something about Xmen 2 ISO?) so I'm not sure how to fix it. >_< It's always something.

What's the verdict on compressing isos, any downsides? I'm about to go on a trip and would like to cram as many of my games onto a memory stick as possible.

I've heard on some games it can cause fmvs to go weird, I've only had this issue on ps1 classics

I've had a few titles that don't seem to want to work when compressed so those I leave uncompressed but everything else I compress to max. I figure compressed data should reduce load times so overall it should help providing there aren't any compatibility issues.

Not true. It has to uncompress the data to access it.

I recommend not compressing any ISO's for maximum performance + compatibility. Storage is cheap anyways.

Typically the time saved from having to transfer less data from the memory card would be greater than any time spent in uncompressing the data. I/O operations tend to be slower than CPU operations.

The thing is, these PSP games weren't designed to be doing data decompression in the background and even overclocked, the PSP doesn't have many CPU cycles to spare... so maximum compression can lead to choppy gameplay in some games. (Rock Band comes to mind.)

Guess I'll ask one more time, hoping someone new sees it..

Is there a homebrew internet browser that allows me to use the internet without the "mobile" restrictions?

I have a PSP-1000 running either cfw 3.15 or 3.51, I can't remember which. I haven't played any newer retail UMD's but I'm thinking of picking up some recent releases, will that be a problem? Will the games ask me to update the firmware or anything?

I am so sorry for this unrelated/stupid question:

The new PSP (not GO, the 3000 is it?) is on sale at a market right next to me. Uumm does the PSP still support playing on a bigger screen TV through component cables or do I need a custom firmware for it?

EDIT: Or was the feature physically removed from the 3000 series?

What restrictions do you mean? Flash? Because there's nothing out there that'll work for you. I'd keep away from internet browsing on the PSP, but if you're desperate enough, you can try and find a build of the Links2 PSP browser..it's standalone, semi functional (at least better than the Sony Netfront browser)

Still supports it, and the Go supports it as well.

Can anyone help me?

Okay I went out and bought a new 4 GB stick, but all the appropriate folders (GAME, PSP, ISO etc) aren't there...it was 4 years ago when I got my last stick so I've pretty much forgotten what to do.

Is there a special converter to allow Japanese games to run on Prometheus?

Actually, let me back up. I've played Sakura Taisen 1&2 for the PSP on 500 M33 and 550 GEN-D in the past with no problems, but after upgrading to Prometheus I stopped playing for a while because I knew I wouldn't be able to use my saves.

So now that I've got a way to read the saves on my older games so I can resave using the new firmware, I went back last night to play Sakura Taisen. Everything started fine, got to the title screen, got to the game selection screen, and selected the 1st Sakura Taisen. It froze and shut off. So I tried again in case it was a fluke, and no dice.

Then out of curiosity, I tried loading the 2nd game, and that one DID work. No issues.

So, I tried a few things. I tried ripping a new ISO from the disc (just in case). Same results, 1st is a no go, 2nd works fine. I tried backing up and then deleting my saved games before trying again. Same results. Then, as a final resort, I put the physical disc in the system. Same results.

So then I decided I must need to decrypt the game's EBOOT or something to work on Prometheus like I did with MGS: PW, but for some reason it wouldn't recognize it as legit (and said something about X-Men 2? o_O), so I've no idea what to do. My only thought is that maybe, since ST1&2 is the only Japanese game I own for the PSP, maybe that's why it wouldn't decrypt properly.

Anyone know if there's a specific decrypter for Japanese games? If not... any thoughts?

What version of Prometheus did you upgrade to?
Make sure it's 5.50 Prometheus-3 v4 and no Prometheus-4.

God, this thread is huge. I apologise if I'm asking something stupid/stated previously, but going through 200+ pages is daunting.

I may buy a PSP Go tomorrow. For 99p. Yeah, 99p - staff discount at work, plus a traded in old PSP and some games I don't want anymore. However, the only reason I want a PSP go is to shove my ripped PS1 games onto it. Me and my girlfriend have a pretty big collection of PS1 discs, and it'd be superb to have them all on a Go.

What do I need to get it running? Is it an install-once custom firmware like the m33 or whatever it was called on the chunky PSP's? Or is it a hacky kind of workaround that's nowhere near as good? I'm totally out of the loop on this one.

Thanks!

The unofficially released Prome-4 broke compatibility with lots of titles (and some plug-ins). Do you have any friends with CF so they can try to run it on their PSPs?

Are there any reasons to upgrade from the last great update for M33 PSP fat users?

What about 1.50 compatibility and the IR port? Is that even needed still?

Also are there any decent SNES emulators for the PSP? I tried the latest Euphoria version last night, and it kept freezing the PSP for almost every game I tried. If the game worked, there were missing sprites on the screen.

I re-read your post. That's exactly what happens when a game is incompatible with the CF, at least from my experience with going from Prome-3 to Prome-4.

Have you found any solution to your problem yet?

Sadly no. The only thing I wonder at this point is if it's possible to downgrade my CFW back down from this point, or if I'm basically stuck. :/

Better PS1 compatibility and almost no need to patch ISOs you dumped in order to play them.

That's pretty much it.

I skimmed through the last few pages but I didn't see anything that explicitly answers these questions, so I'm going to ask them and hopefully it won't be too redundant:

I just bought a PSP Go (White) so I can put CFW on it. My current PSP Go (Black) is currently at 6.38, so I'm going to sell it.
1. How do I transfer all my data (saved game files mainly) off my Black and put it onto the White?
2. Which custom firmware do I want? I want to be able to play SNES, N64, and PSP titles on the system -- I do not care for PS1 titles outside of the ones I already bought off PSN. I also want to be able to play semi-recently released titles like Ghosts of Sparta, Valkyria Chronicles 2, and Persona 3 Portable.
3. What's the easiest way to go about putting the CFW on the system?

Since most PSP Gos have OFW 6.35, your only options are 6.35 HEN or PRO.
If by chance it has 6.20, you can choose between 6.20 TN-D or 6.20 PRO.
There is no "hard" way to put CFW on PSP Go with such "limited" choices.
6.35 HEN doesn't mess up with your flash0 so I'd say it's the best option out there.

That's what I use on my PSP-1000. It's perfect for playing recent games but SNES emulators don't run well on it. I heard the last beta of SNES9X Euphoria runs on 6.35 PRO-B but I'm not a fan of that LCFW.

For data transfer > If your PSP Go is recognized as a USB drive on your PC, then put your saves there and back on your new one. The saves are in the folder PSP/SAVEDATA or something like that.

My firmware is v5.70.

And dragging and dropping on the PC worked. Thanks.

Apologies if this has been answered somewhere, but is there a method for bypassing a forced update? I picked up FFIV and it requires an update to 6.37. I am running 6.35 pro-b at the moment.

Okay I decided on 6.20 TN-E. I downloaded the 6.20 OFW update, but I cannot get it to go. I put the UPDATE folder from the winrar into the PSP/GAME folder, and when I select the update in the game menu it just says "Game cannot be started." I'm drawing blanks on what I'm supposed to do.
