PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I just dug out my old PSP1000 and it is on 5.00 M33-6. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of upgrading to the newest stable firmware. I had a look around and there's CFW that once the console is switched off reverts back to the original firmware or something? I'm a little confused by it all. Many thanks, GAF!

Yeah, LCFW that revert back to OFW when switched off are: 6.20 TN/PRO and 6.35 PRO.
If you want a permanent CFW, you can apply a patch to 6.20 TN to make it so. Also, there is 6.38 ME-2 which is a true CFW and allows you to boot OFW if you press home while switching on the PSP.

I know this has been asked a million times. I just go a go and don't know if I should go with 6.20 or 6.35. Is their one that's better than the other. I was using 6.35 on my psp-3000. Thanks

I tried tn and wasn't very happy, seems you have to do a few more step/need additional apps for it to work right. Went back to pro and works great.

Is their anyway to log into psn (when it's back) while on CFW? found my answer

Is there a way to trick sites like realgm into thinking I'm not using a mobile device? I just hate the interface and lack of options given. Im on 6.35 Pro B4, btw.

Can someone tell me what exactly a "Prometheus" firmware implies?

I have read "5.50 Prometheus", "Prometheus-3", "Prome-4", "5.50 GEN-D3 with Prometheus add-on or modules"...
It just got confusing.

I'm pretty sure my PSP was once 5.50 GEN-D3 (long time ago, it was Prometheus). I don't remember when (or how :p) I changed to "5.50 Prome-3", at least that's what the system said... so, a few weeks ago I upgraded to "5.50 Prome-4" [which caused some problems with the Game Categories plug-in].

I wanted to play a game tonight (PoP:TFS) which worked fine on Prome-3 but doesn't work on Prome-4 (didn't realize until now cause I've been playing on my Go and using the 2000 to rip the games). So, Prome-4 broke the compatibility with that title and I would like to go back to Prome-3 if possible, but what exactly is "5.50 Prome-4/3"? Is it a GEND3 with a Prometheus add-on? Is it 5.50 Prometheus-#?

Ok, picked up FF4 before psn went down, I'm playing it on my 5.00 m33-6 psp, it plays fine until the leviathan part. Then it goes black and doesnt respond. I left it alone for 30 mins, and nothing. Any idea what the go is here? It works fine on my OFW psp ofcourse, but I figured if it wasnt compatible with m33-6 it wouldnt have loaded?

Prometheus is a patch to 5.50 Gen and 5.00 M33. It's meant to decrypt umd's that have the newer encryption on fw 6.20. Prome-4 supports more titles than 3. Try disabling other addons and try booting that game. If it still doesn't work, downgrade with pandora's and mms.

Holy shit, I had no idea about Prometheus! Should I try using that on my m33-6 CFW?

EDIT Turns out I was using te m33 6.20.prx plugin, is this better than Prom-3 or 4?

Just looking for advice here!

I get it. Thanks.

I downloaded and installed 5.50 Prometheus-3 v4, PSP says "5.50 Prome-3" :) .
PoP:TFS runs fine again.

From what I read, apparently 5.50 Prometheus-4 wasn't an official release from Liquidzigong [he quit the scene] but from an anonymous source and it's full of bugs, causing some games to freeze (or in my case, not run at all).

Quick question: I recently upgraded to a pspgo, and grabbed a 16gb m2 card as well. I've been slowly using my psp to rip the ISOs of my UMDs, and finally ran out of room on the internal memory. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't seem to make the games on the memory card show up. Do I have to make a special directory for them or something?

Under the game option in the XMB there are 2 icons, one for system storage and one for memory stick, the memory card games should show up under the memory stick option

I know, they aren't for some reason. I tried making an ISO folder and just leaving it in the root, but it's not working.

Hmm...did you format the card in the Go with the CFW running? That's what I did and seems to work for me, I didn't have to create any additional sub-directories, the ISO folder was already there. When I connect my GO via USB I get 2 drives mapped, one for the stick and one for the internal memory.

hey guys, when my isos show up in the menu, there's also a bunch of "corrupted file" icons. all the isos i put on still show up so these are like extra files for some reason. does everyone get those? or should i just delete them in the menu? i'm running 6.35 pro b-4 btw. i honestly don't know what they could be because there doesn't appear to be extra files in there on my psp when i look on the computer.

Ah, no I didn't. I'll try that, thanks.

So I'm thinking of going with the latest 6.35 Pro-B (4 or 5?) on my Go. That's a light, non-perm cfw right? It should also let me put ripped PS1 games (converted to eboots) on the unit, and then run them right?

Am I able to get on psn while on CFW? If so does 6.35 pro work? Guess I need to login to get all my free games from Sony.
If you're using a non-permanent one you can always restart the PSPand log on, do your business, and log off before you restart the CFW? Does the PSP force you to be on the latest firmware to log-in though?

The psn forces you to update your firmware. I want to stay on 6.35.

I used to have that problem when I was on TN. Pretty sure you can just delete the corrupted icons. Or just ignore them, it's not that big of a deal.

But to get the code for the free games when you purchase a PSP Go don't you have to go onto PSN with the PSP Go to "activate" it or something? Or you can you simply pair it with your PS3 or something?

Are you in Europe? Cause the free games (3) promotion ended on March 31 in America.

And yes, you have to sign into the PSN with your PSPgo and you should receive the codes for the games in a few days.

For the USA version you don't have to. All I did was register my product, waited to get the codes via email and downloaded the games on my PS3.

I talked to a Sony rep and was told it actually doesn't expire till end of July.

That's nice for the people getting a Go now (which on GAF, are many apparently).

In Europe the promotion is still running and it's 10 games, not 3; I got a Go a couple of weeks ago and have received the code for my games. Now all I need is PSN to get back online...

However, to get the code, you need to download a (free) theme for the PSP; I got it through the PSP, but maybe you can do it from a PS3 or Media Go, not sure.

Hey all, I just got a PSP go today and the firmware on it is OFW 6.38. This custom firmware stuff is rather new for me on the Go and I have one particular question I would appreciate answered. Do I have any options for playing PSX ISOs in any fashion (either burned directly from the original discs or downloaded from the Internet)?

I was going to ask the same thing. Is there one where I can load images of my UMDs AND use the store? I'm assuming this is what the non-permanent CFW can do...run the official FW, but still use CFW to load up my UMD images?

Just a quick question, I'm on 6.35 PRO-A2 and I've had no problems up until now. All of a sudden my start button has just stopped working. It's not stuck or anything, the system just doesn't recognize me as pushing the button. Is this due to the CFW or something else?

I really doubt it's the custom firmware, but you can always try updating to the latest PRO.

I've been looking up and some people suggested that it could be a problem with the button itself. Some people suggested a plugin where you can change what each button does but is it possible to use plugins on PRO?

Anyone have advice on which Micro SD I should purchase for my psp go?
looking at http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produc...6&cm_re=16_gb_micro_sd-_-20-171-386-_-Product
or
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produc...4&cm_re=16_gb_micro_sd-_-20-220-524-_-Product

i just plan to store my ps one games on it, apparently the sandisk reads and writes much faster than a class 2 normally does, im just not sure about how fast the read speed would need to be in order to play a typical final fantasy game for example.
