PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I really want to get a red or a blue 3000 to replace my haggard old 2000 at some point...but I hate getting consoles used, so I think my chances of finding a deal are getting slimmer by the minute

Hah, just got my PSP-3000 in the mail and upgraded to 6.60 without realizing that this was a new upgrade... what options do I have for homebrew at this point? Looks like there's no CFW out yet.

Guess I got overzealous and didn't realize to check just to make sure when it asked me to upgrade I was upgrading to something I could use. Oh well.

Just follow this. Whatever firmware version you can downgrade to depends on your module version, even though 6.35+ should work regardless (no real reason to use anything else than 6.39 I guess).

Did that Saturn emulator ever become playable? Google isn't netting me anything recent. It seems like it should be doable, and I'd love to play some Burning Rangers and Saturn Megamix.

You can try it. yabause.org

Burning Rangers is listed as "Shows stuff." I don't see Saturn Megamix in the compatibility list. Shining Force III and Shining the Holy Ark are both listed as playable.

Is there a clear difference between which PSP version is the best to be running CFW on and playing physical UMD games (as opposed to backups)? I've admittedly been hoarding PSP games but never bit on a PSP. The slim (2000?) iirc was the obvious choice for firmware at the time, but the 3000 had the better screen and whatnot.

3000 is the better device but CFW can't be permanently patched on new ones right now, you'll have to load it on every boot (or just put it in sleep).

I just pulled out my PSP-1000 and see I have 6.35 PRO-A2 on it. Anything extremely better I should upgrade/change to, or just notch this one up to A4?

I guess I just noticed there is a Pro-B now.

Running off of Custom Firmware
I'm on 6.20 Pro-B9.
I can't say that I see any point in sticking within Pro-Ax.
Isn't that like a dozen versions ago?

I'm on 6.20 PRO-B9 on a PSP GO and I can't launch my PSN purchased games. I have a version.txt set at 6.39 but I continuously get error 80010087. Any ideas?

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to upgrading to 6.60 and using Pro-B9 as compared to sticking with FW 6.39?

Play online I guess EDIT: and maybe a few games that will require new firmware to play unpatched. I'm still on 6.35.

I guess I might as well update, as long as it's not gimping any existing features.

the main thing it might break is compatibility with different homebrew. i remember there being issues in the past with newer firmwares not supporting the same homebrew but it could be that this was all solved and I didn't notice

I read somewhere that plugins need to be updated to work in 6.60. So if you use a lot of plugins, you should wait.

I don't use any plugins at all and jumped to 6.60 PRO B9. Now I can finally sync my games with my PS3 !

I just received a PSP 3000 with firmware 4.20

I want to use it just to play emulators (mainly snes and gba).

What's the best/easiest cfw to install? And where are the best/easiest instructions for this?

I tried browsing this thread, but its just too big...

Thanks!

Download 6.39Pro-B9 and the official 6.39OFW (google should give you enough results).
Put them on your MS. (Pro version in the 'Game' folder) the OFW should be put there too but in a folder called 'Update' (just make it yourself).
Update to 6.39, then run 6.39Pro-B9 flasher and you're done.

Any reason for 6.39 PRO?

He can run 6.20 PRO Perma..

bought a psp 3000 (love the glittery white colour, haha) in perfect condition for £43 and now dipping my toe into custom firmwares, emulation and backing up my old ps1 games. this thing is just incredible when it's potential is unlocked.
i'm currently on 6.20 pro, any reason to upgrade to anything else?

Oh didn't know that 6.39 couldn't do permanent on 3000.

Went for 6.20 in the end. Can always update later.

Snes euphoria works a charm.
Have fun, it's a great system for emulators!

I only upgraded to 6.39-Pro (from 5.00M33) to play new UMD games, it doesn't matter if you only play PS1/SNES.

I'm looking to transfer all the Square Enix games I bought from the US PSN onto my PSPgo. I think I have 6.20 Pro-B or something, but it doesn't let me transfer the PSN games I bought and downloaded onto MediaGo. Which firmware should I get now to allow me to do this?

I've just heard about this Custom firmware nonsense from a friend... so...

I'm wondering if it's possible to get it on my PSP Go which has the latest firmware on it? Oh, and what can I actually do with it over the regular firmware?

Haven't tested the latest release but go up to 6.60 and install PRO for that version.

Would I be able to access the store with that? I think that is the reason MediaGo is not allowing me to transfer my games - because I don't have the newest firmware and can't connect to the store.

I'm on the exact same boat as you but I was able to transfer my purchase to my Go via MediaGo. Still doesn't run the game though. I may have to try 6.60 for that.

I'm going to re-hack my PSP(overwrote the custom firmware back when Birth by Sleep came out)... are there any updated instructions on this or is it all the same as before really?

Weird, it won't even let me move all my PSN PS1 games onto my Go. I haven't tried transferring from my PS3, but I'm guessing it would be the same thing.

Installed 6.20 Pro-B9 Permanent on my PSPgo.

Is there any advantage of going to 6.60 Pro-B9 non-permanent? It is kind of nice to not have to run the loader program every time I turn the system off and on.

Also, it appears with the 6.20 Pro-B9, I can log into my PSN again and buy games from the store. Is that safe or should I continue using my PS3 and MediaGO to buy my PSN games for PSP?

None really, unless you want to stay up-to-date on OFW, 6.xx PRO-B9 has the same stuff.

It's safe, Sony doesn't know/care.

I just updated to 6.60 Pro-9 perma patch on my phat 1000. What is this "inferno" thingie I can see in vsh menu?
Also I've read that there is another CFW around except Pro, is that true and are there any advantages going for that one?

Oh and should I stay on 6.60 or downgrade for something lower (saw that most people use 6.20 or 6.39 I believe)

i'm new to this all but i think there's loads of different cfw's around. not sure where they excel over others, mind.

Can you put custom firmware on a psp 1000 with the newest possible update? I just got a psp yesterday with crisis core and holy shit I can't handle these load times

Brought a PSP Go yesterday brand new, installed custom firmware on it with no hassle whatsoever. Ripped my UMD's using my battered psp-1000 and transfered over. No complaints at all - awesome console for £50!

It'd be shit if it wasnt for CFW though.

Still great if one have purchased the games through PS Store, in my opinion :)

Meh, not when I brought GOW:Ghost of Sparta pre-owned for £6 at my work! Unbeatable price. Wouldnt be possible for that price through the PSN.

I'm looking to get CFW on my PSP-3000. If I want to play my new UMD games like Tactics Ogre and 3rd Bday, my only choice is 6.60 Pro-B9 right? Don't go with 6.20 Pro-B9?

I know I can rip my UMDs, but I'd rather not go through the hassle when I have the UMDs and can just plop them in.

Hello,

I just got a cheap psp go with official firmware 5.70. Is there any way to get CFW on this device so I can play undubs, emulators, ps 1 games etc?

I read on a forum that psp go can't be downgraded so I wanted to be extra careful!

I don't mind losing any online capability. I have a (slightly scratched). psp 3000 with 6.xxxx firmware for that.

Thanks a lot

Everyone, just download the 6.60 OFW update and the 6.60PRO-B9 and install. If you want 6.35, 6.39 or 6.20, download the OFW and the corresponding PRO CFW for that version.

http://code.google.com/p/procfw/

Note the permapatch install if its ok with your unit. Basically, just read the readme. ;)
