Could someone please remind me how to use CFW to play PSP games upscaled through my PC via USB?

I'm sure there was a thread that had a screenshot or two of FFI running through this kind of setup a few years ago. I've been Googling it but I'm starting to think I may have imagined it in a dream.

See the Youtube?

Google: "remotejoy", you're welcome.

So I'm using 6.20 TN-E is there a better TN out yet or is the PRO the best option? I have a PSP 2000 on 6.20 TN-E I wouldn't mind if there was a permanent CFW for it like PRO, but I remember those were spotty at best when they first came out, especially for GO, do they still Brick them?

On my OG PSP I've been using CFW 5 and using the m33 6.20 plugin to play games such as MGS: Peace Walker. I picked up 3rd Birthday & Dissidia 12 and neither load - is there an update plugin that can be used? I read little on Prometheus 4 - since I've been out of the loop on this for a while, would this plugin work, and how is it installed? What exactly is it doing? Thanks folks for any help.

Hey Gaf,

my little brother just bought a PSP 3000 and it came with OFW 3.60. I was wondering if I could downgrade it or something... I just want to install a CFW. is it possible?

Upgrade to 6.39 and install Pro-B8.

I'm more curious how you got a 3000 model with 3.60 since AFAIK they came around when the firmware was in the late 4.xx and early 5.xx.

Thanks a lot :) !

I actually have no clue. He got it at Walmart, so it must've been a later model or something. I'm not complaining though :) Got homebrew running!

Damn, I have a white stuck/dead pixel on my new go. A white pixel means stuck, so I may fix it With a flashing video or something like this right ?

Alright, I'm trying to copy my two free psp games from the welcome back offer to my psp. I'm currently running 5.50 prome-4 on a psp 2001. Has anyone been able to do this? I'm getting an error (80029751).
EDIT: Ok, updated to OFW 6.39 and downloaded them. This sucks. I'm practically restricted to having one activation at a time on my psp. If I'm playing my US games, I can't play my JP games unless I activate it which then I can't play my US games. Updated to 6.39 Pro B8.
Playing around with region modes to see if that works, but to no avail. The game could not be started.

Okay, you can get a permanent CFW installer here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/2100

This does not require a Pandora battery and is not a HEN. All PSPs now support permanent CFW, except for the Go.
NesterJ v1.13 Beta 2. If you don't like it, try FCEU-PSP v0.3.

OK, I did this, but it doesn't appear to be a permanent CFW - I have to run 639LME Launcher every time to enable it... am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: OK I've managed to get it put on 6.20 OFW, then 5.00 CFW - what CFW should I be looking for? I want to play GBA/PSX/PSP games off of a memory card so that's my aim

Do you guys overclock your PSPs (probably only older versions apply) from 300 to 333 MHz? Is it worth it? I mean does it make for smoother play and does it eat mora battery?

OCing does help with slowdown in some games (and is pretty much a necessity in emulators) and it most certainly eats the battery more. One of the most noticeable differences is in SotN when you defeat a boss and the item materializes, instead of it being slow and dramatic (which I honest thought for a long time was intentional) it just zips in. Now I'm _used_ to it just zipping in, so playing is on PS3 feels weird.

How is hit on the battery?

Higher but not so high it's not worth having the higher speed.

I might also recommend if you're using a 2000 or 3000 model getting the 1800mAH battery since it will practically double your battery life, isn't that obtrusive to the PSP's case and let's you feel the impact of OCing the cpu less.

I have a psp- 1004 version, and have been looking for a replacement battery for a while but no luck so far... (in europe and looking for an official battery as I've heard horror stories about third party ones)

I have Pro-B CFW installed, can't remember which version, and everytime I start a game, my folders disappear.
How do I make them stick?

In the Pro Recovery Meny, I see that there is an option for "Use Custom Update Server" Which I have enabled. How do I use this to get newer versions of the CFW?

What plugins do you recommend?
I have none installed yet.
How does the region swap plugins work with this CFW?
Any good folders-plugin where I can create my own folders?

Okay I misremembered which battery was which. The extended is a 2200mAh not 1800, 1800 was the fat psp, which is why the 2200 nearly doubles the battery on a slim.

As it is, look on amazon for a battery. The extended battery won't offer a lot more juice for a fat, but if you NEED a replacement you may as well. I just took a quick look on amazon.uk but holy crap, EVERY battery was a generic crapola one that looks like it's from HK and would likely die and take the system with it.

Yeah my biggest problem right there. Would kill for an official battery for psp, but none of the stores here in Sweden have them;( pretty sad and my battery is starting to show its age. Soon my PSP(ortable) will become PSC(ablebound)

Try Amazon. They should have batteries.

Hello. I have a PSP 2000 on firmware 5.00 M33-3...I believe it's probably light years behind compared to what's out there now. I remember that it used to be able to do an update over the network, but it seems this no longer works (I get a DNS error message).

Amyway, a few questions...

1. Can anyone recommend me a quick and easy way to upgrade it to the latest custom firmware? Any recommendations?

2. I'm looking to get a PSP Go. Is there an idiot's guide like Clipper's Wii homebrew one? I'm a complete novice when it comes to these things.

Thanks.

I have a PSP-2001 on 5.50 Prometheous. Which CFW should I upgrade to so I can play Tactics Ogre? The game dropped to $20 on Amazon, and I'd like to buy it.

6.39 Pro-B8

Everyone asking this question should just go to this. There is no longer any reason to be on a lower firmware.

Is that a full CFW? I mean can we still use emus and rip our PSX games? Also should phat 1004 users update to latest pro-b8 fw?

Oh and regarding Amazon and batteries there, they all look like they are not third but fifth party or something ( only checked uk amazon )

I just received a PSP1000 with ofw 3.90 on it. Where the hell do I start to get cfw on it? I have a "pandora" battery(tool battery actually) from when I had a 2000, but don't know what to start with.

Can't manage for sh!t
I finally got my psp hacked but it has CFW 5.00 M33-4. I'm trying to figure out how to update the CFW to a newer version. I also noticed that "PSP Custom Firmware 6.39 ME-9" just came out today. Is this what I should update too?

So I'm trying to update from 5.50 Prometheus to 6.38 Pro-B8 on my PSP-2000 but the thing says I have 9.90 OFW or something. I have no idea how to upgrade to OFW 6.39 anyone got a tutorial?

At the XMB screen press Select and where it says USB DEVICE change it to say Flash 0 beside it by pressing right on the d-pad. Press Select again and connect your PSP to your computer via USB. On your PC, navigate to the folder on your PSP x:\vsh\etc and open the file version.txt in Notepad and change where it reads release:9.90 to release:5.50 Save and close the file. On your PSP press Select again and change your USB DEVICE back to Memory Stick. Press Select again and you should now be able to update your firmware.

Thanks a lot, everything worked just great and i'm now on Perma 6.39 Pro B8, however, my saves are corrupted now, that happened before going to M33 to Prometheus...is there anyway to fix that?

Reboot/turn off PRO. Go to 6.39 OFW. See if it uncorrupts. If not, try TN-D. Uncorrupts? Save over them. Go back to OFW. Should work.

Then delete PRO-B8 and go back to TN because TN > PRO, IMO.

@_ @;

I'll have to figure this all out. Update my 1000 and my brother's 2000 sometime this week. But I have a question. I downloaded a "Signed" version of PicoDrive for my OFW PSP-3000 and while it works, CD Audio for Sega/Mega CD games doesn't work. Is there a setting I'm missing. Should I re-rip the audio again? I miss my portable Sonic CD, Snatcher, Keio Flying Squadron and Shining Force CD! TT_TT

You could try doing this:

If you upgraded your PSP’s CFW and suddenly found yourself stuck with corrupt save games then here’s a guide on how to fix them.

Requirements:

A PSP with CFW
Download Free Cheat
Download SED
Warning: this guide is not for the faint of heart. If you have little knowledge of hacking your PSP, start reading the Dummy’s Guide to PSP CFW.

How to fix PSP’s corrupt saves
Extract both archives (FreeCheat.zip and SED.zip)
Copy the FreeCheat folder into the x:/seplugins
Copy the SED folder to x:/PSP/GAME/
Go to the seplugins folder of your PSP
Open the game.txt file (if you don’t have one, create it) and add this txt:
If you’re above CFW 3.80 M33
Code:
ms0:/seplugins/FreeCheat/fc_3xx.prx 1
or if you have anything below that
Code:
ms0:/seplugins/FreeCheat/fc_371.prx
On your VSH menu (press select on the XMB), select RESET Hen (this option is not available to permanent CFWs so you need to restart your PSP)
Important: Move your corrupted game save into the root directory of your PSP. Don’t worry, we’re just moving it out of the way so we can actually repair it.
Start the game you want to recover the save file from
Play the game up until the point when you can save (some games allow you to save from the very first menu, others you need to play first)
Before saving the game, press note to bring up the FreeCheat console
On the freecheat console go to Mem Manager -> SAVEDATE Manager -> Operate Mode -> Dump
Press X to revert to the game so you can start creating a save file
After the save file has been created, exit the game and connect your PSP to your PC
Navigate your PSP’s directory to ms0:/seplugins/FreeCheat/SAVEDATA. You will see 2 files in it, .key file and a .sav file. Example given below:
Code:
ULJM-05500.key and ULJM-05500_0.sav
Rename the key file as such ULJM-05500.key to ULJM055000.bin. Take note that it’s now a .bin file and missing the “-”.
Important Note: Just copy the format not the actual text. If not your save file will not work.
Copy this file into /PSP/GAME/SED/
Move the new save game that you created from x:/PSP/SAVEDATA/ to anywhere on your computer. You’ll need this later.
Copy back the corrupted save (the one you moved earlier) back into x:/PSP/SAVEDATA/.
Important: The directory of the saved game should match the name of the .bin file you just created. If it doesn’t, rename the .bin file to match it.
Run SED again and find the new save file (the one you just created a few minutes back)
Press Triangle to bring up the options and select the 2nd one from the top.
Press O and select “Yes” and press O again. SED will now repair your savefile using the one you created with this guide.
Start your game as normal and enjoy your repaired save file
http://www.atmaxplorer.com/2011/07/howto-uncorrupt-your-psp-saves/

This may not be practical, depending on how many saves you have, as it is a lengthy and tedious process. I also can't confirm for myself whether or not this works but it might be worth a shot.

I've tried something similar to that and it didn't uncorrupt my GEN Peace Walker save. The only thing that did was moving to TN, saving over it and going to OFW to check to see if it uncorrupted.

In any case, anything I've thrown at TN has worked fine. Compared to PRO which seems to fuck with the things I use. So yeah: I'm of the opinion that PRO drools and TN rules.

Examples? I'm just interested in any problems you've had with PRO; I've been using it for a week or so now and haven't had any issues myself.

I've got a go also and i'm now using Pro-B8 on that, do you think moving my files from the Pro B-8 go to the 2000 will help with the save corruption?

One last question, can i make Pro-B8 permanent on PSP Go??

Hate to bump this ancient thread but while picking up Catherine yesterday I noticed some used PSPGo's for $99.

Thinking of picking one up today, but I need to know what firmware version should I avoid?

A quick Ebay search should find you some reputable PSP battery resellers without too many problems.

My PSP always bricks when in install 6.39 PRO-B
It works fine after the update. But the PSP won't boot up after turning it off and on again.

How can I fix this?

Edit: Misread.
Hold R while booting your PSP up, disable all plugins, try again.
