Finally decided to use the psp for something other than a paper weight so i got custom firmware 3.90.

I cant seem to play many homebrew apps though. emulators work but a lot of the homebrew stuff like media players don't is there some other program i should be using to run the homebrew apps? iso loader works everything works but I am really interested in the GPS programs since I have the GPS dongle for it.

Now that I've updated to 3.90 M33, my old DAX Dumper Beta doesn't work. I bought Pulse but I'd rather have no load times. What's the best dumper currently out for this firmware? I'd like to be able to dump straight to the memory stick and play, rather than to the computer first.

I should mention that I'd like to dump the entire ISO in its original state, as opposed to a CSO which at times causes performance issues.

recent M33 firmwares include built in dumping via USB target selection. Just hit Select while in the XMB, then change USB device to UMD, exit the VSHmenu and go to USB connection as normal, then you can just drag-and-drop the ISO to your computer.

I just tried this, but it seems to take much longer than simply dumping straight to the MS.

EDIT: Okay I'm just gonna dump straight from the UMD drive to my comp via USB. It's gonna take 20 MINUTES. Goodness.

Does any Pops run Dragon Quest 4 from start to finish without crashing? First it crashed the system when I entered the Tempe church after getting past that part, now it won't let me enter the arena at the end of Chapter 2. I'm on 3.90

Look for one? Just turn your fat battery into a pandora one. That's what I did. The only people that need the datel tool thing are the ones stuck with Slims only.

Are you sure you're using a USB 2.0 port? But yeah, basically just think of it as being like ripping a CD or a DVD, it's an optical disc drive with moving parts so obviously it's gonna take that kind of time to rip. Plus having it on your PC means you have a backup in case you want to delete it off your memory stick and put another game on, or stuff like that.

I always use the screenshot plugin in this bundle. It works fine in 3.90 M33-2 and all you need to do is hit the music button for it to dump whatever's on screen to the Memory Stick.

I know media people who use this because it's much less hassle than hooking up the PSP debug units and they can do it from anywhere :lol

How'd you install this? The readme doesn't help much.

Actually, dumping my Chains of Olympus UMD took about 15 minutes. But this all seems counter-intuitive. Now that I have it on my computer, I gotta turn around and copy it over to the memory stick, costing me another five minutes. Makes no sense to do it this way.

15 minutes!? How big is GoW. The largest games I've ripped clocked in at well over 1GBs and didn't take close to 15 minutes to rip...

Why complain, you don't have to do it once. It's good to backup all of your games this way.

Not sure if you read my original question, where I asked what UMD dumper would be best to rip straight to my mem stick. The process generally takes all of 3 minutes, and it's all on my mem stick and ready to play at that instant.

1) Make a folder on the root of the Memory Stick called 'seplugins', assuming there isn't one already.
2) Drop screenshotbmp.prx into that folder.
3) Create a text file called 'vsh.txt' that contains only the text 'ms0:/seplugins/screenshotbmp.prx'. Create two more with the same text in them called 'pops.txt' and 'game.txt'.
4) Copy all three text files into the seplugins folder.
5) Boot the PSP into recovery mode (hold R at while booting) and enable all three versions of the plugin in the plugins menu.

The three text files are for the XMB (vsh), PS1 games (pops), and official games and homebrew (game). It just tells the firmware to load the plugin when it's in that mode.

GOW is about 1.5GB without optimisation or anything. Took me 22 minutes to rip from UMD direct to the Memory Stick.

Oh, sorry. Did you use PSP Filer to do that?

Thanks Neko! Doing it now.

Sweet!

I recently upgraded my two PSPs to custom firmware. (The PSP phat is on 3.71 M33-4; the PSP slim is on 3.90 M33-2.) I'm a bit stuck at this point, though:

1) I'm on a Mac running Leopard, so I'm not sure what my options are for putting PSP and PS1 games onto the memory stick. The application that everyone recommends for Mac users is Prometeus Pro; however, I've been unable to get it to work, and from what I've found on the web, it seems that it is not compatible with Leopard. (I was told that the usual approach for PC users -- namely, setting the USB device to UMD and copying the file over the USB connection -- does not work with Macs for some reason.) Do I have any Mac-only options for getting games from UMD to Memory Stick that would work under Leopard? If so, do they support CSOs, or ISOs only?

2) The same set of questions apply for PS1 games. I have a copy of Toast 7, so I'm guessing that could be used to take PS1 discs I have and turn them into ISOs...right? Or would Disk Utility be a better option? Once I get to that point, is there any Leopard-compatible Mac software that will turn them into EBOOTs?

3) I cleared out the 1 GB stick in the PSP phat and used navanman's tutorial to turn the PSP phat battery into a Pandora battery. However, other than using the Pandora to install CFW on the slim, I haven't altered it from the "stock" 3.90 M33-2 configuration. What other software do you recommend that I add at this point? (My primary use case for CFW is just to be able to carry more of the zillion PSP games I have with me, and to get the benefits of better battery life and clock speed.)

Thanks...I'm less lost than I used to be (thanks Dragona!), but still kind of lost.

To be honest, the non-MS development, user experience of CFW PSP apps and utilities is very poor indeed. Alot of Mac apps haven't been updated in a long time, Mac platform doesn't have the open-source dev nature of MS plaforms.

Seeing as you are using Leopard, how about using the XP dual-boot app (can't remember the name of it) and working off that.

Yes, you can. DAX removed the protection a while back (don't remember what firmware).

I don't want to run Boot Camp for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, I bought a Mac to get AWAY from the hassle of running Windows. Second, there would be a cost to buy a copy of Windows to put on the Boot Camp partition...and given that Windows XP isn't an option anymore, I'd be stuck with Vista. Finally, I don't have the space on my MacBook Pro to install Windows. As of this second, I have just under 10 GB free on a 100 GB drive, which is about as low as you want to go for optimized disk function anyway. I've been taking a hard look at my music collection trying to figure out what I can push to an external drive to free up more room...so dropping Windows on there would exacerbate the problem. (My plan was to create the ISO/CSO/EBOOT files one at a time and then push them out to my external HD.)

My GF does have a Windows PC, but it's incredibly old and underpowered (HP OEM with an Athlon 64 and only 384 MB of RAM), and the disk drive is also generating a SMART warning. So, although I do have access to a Windows PC for the time being, I don't want to RELY on having access to one in the future. I suppose I could use the PC tools on her machine and then transfer the finished products over to the Mac later...until it finally dies.

If I was going with the PC route, which tools would I need?

Ok so ive had my psp for about a week now, looking to put CFW on it.

Right now i've got:
PSP Slim (3.71 Sony FW) & 4gb MS Pro Dou and of course the battery that came with it.

From what ive read, I need to make a Pandora Battery with my current battery, or buy a new one for this purpose and.. thats as far as ive got. Where to from here?

Like others have pointed out, I used this guide to create my pandora battery and then reverting it back to a regular battery. All you need is patience to open the battery without mangling its case (or worse, a finger). Be aware though, that the trace on the battery board is pretty much hair-thin, so at first you might have an 'oh crap.. it looked A LOT bigger in that picture' moment when you open it. However, it's easy to do and fixing it with a mechanical pencil only takes a second.
Once you're done with the procedure on that guide you will have 3.71 M33 installed and from there on YOU'RE FREE.

Don`t bother with Vista Jinx, none of this stuff works on it(I`d know) :(

For PC you`d need the Pandora battery and the MMS. Or do you mean the programs as well.

Which program did you use Neko?

Just push select in the xmb and switch USB Device to UMD. Then connect your PSP to the PC and start the process of copying the game. You can even choose the ISO map on your MS as the target.

Well, today I should be getting my Service Tool and hopefully my new extended battery that I ordered like a week ago. -_- In any case, I have a Pandora MS all set a ready so I'm pretty sure I'm good to go. Can't wait at all.

I just bought a Slim PSP that has 3.71 M33-2 on it. All "backed up" games run fine when I put the .iso files in the /ISO folder on the Memory Stick. Should I upgrade, I mean, am I missing out on some great new features?

3.80 m33 and upwards have automatic updating via Wifi, but they also have some issues due to a degraded memory stick driver (Sony's fault, not dark alex's).

Ditto. I'd love a Vader Slim PSP, as they really are just awesome looking, but I'm not going through the struggle of getting a Pandora battery.

I heard that certain memory stick duo's cause performance issues when running a game from them, if so can someone give me a list of which ones these are so I can avoid them?
