turns YOUR battery into one.. 20 bucks for a part that goes inbetween your battery and the psp..

not what you are looking for.

Wait, let me get things straight so I know. You need a Service Battery to get into the mode to install the firmware right? Do I still need to keep the Service Battery after to run the CFW or can I revert it to a regular battery? I mean, if I can use this to switch between the two and not fiddle with the inner-workings of the battery, I wouldn't mind.

you only need the battery to install the firmware. You don't need it to run the PSP afterwards. You can revert a pandora's battery back into a normal battery with the help of a soldering iron and a steady hand. If you have the slim, theres a way to cut one of the lines on the circuit board and draw it back with a pencil. I've heard of a few doing this successfully. Personally I bought a separate battery and did it the old fashioned way.

Ah, ok. That makes me wonder how this thing Datel is selling works.

Yeah. The Datel Tool battery is just like a regular PSP battery except it's pre-modded to run in service mode only. I was going to buy it as well but changed my mind after I realized I'd only use it once:lol

well, you can still use it as a battery after...

Well, this Datel Service Tool says it switches the batteries between Service and Regular mode without having to physically change anything or voiding the warranty. If true, it'd be a really nice thing to have but I'm unsure about it.

I have a PSP fat and I just updated to 3.90 m33-2. I want to know if I need the 1.50 kernal add-on. I can play Nester, Picodrive, and other 1.50 homebrew just fine, but will that last? Do I need it?

Just to be clear, Datel actually sells two similarly named products. I'll use the name listed on their us website, codejunkies

1) PSP MAX Power TOOL / PSP MAX Power TOOL SLIM $24.99
A battery which has already been modified to put a psp into service mode

2) PSP Battery Service Tool $19.99
A device which can be used to turn regular batteries into service batteries.

Hey guys, figured id jump in since i got a psp coming my way in the mail and have a couple quick questions:

- 3.71 M33 supports 8gb memory sticks right? i read somewhere in this thread that the earlier firmwares didn't, but i cant find the post now. (A quick google search says that sony enabled it back in 2.81 so im assuming that it is supported in 3.71?)

- Is there anything i need to do to make the MS compatible with CFW so i can just save games or rip my games to it? In other words, will a simple format from within the psp with custom firmware suffice, or do i have to run a program to prep it for it?

- And just as a shot in the dark, does anybody in this thread live in the Seattle area
WHY DID YOU MOVE M3WTHR33? lol
and has a pandora battery? My plan is to hardmod the battery and then use a mechanical pencil to fix it, but if i can avoid doing it that would be even better.

I live in the Seattle area (Bremerton). I have a Datel Tool battery. My friend make the MS stick. I have an 8GB stick works great with CFW, but it wasn't used to put CFW on the PSP.

If you only have an 8GB I would just use another smaller stick to do the firmware update. Once the update to CFW is in place, you can use the 8GB fine for anything. I went to the 3.90 m33 2 version.

The CFW install is a seperate thing, once you are done, you are done unless you somehow put on an official sony fw. The 8GB stick needs nothing special at all. In fact I copied the entire contents of my 1GB stick that I used with official firmware, then made an iso folder (to hold the iso and csos) on it and it worked with no other changes.

OK, I am soooo turned around at this point, I'm honestly not sure what to do next.

What I have:
PSP Slim (3.90 Sony fw)
Original Slim Battery
Fat TOOL Battery (created by a buddy with the Datel TOOL)
1GB Sony MS Pro Duo
4GB Sandisk MS Pro Duo

I've looked at several walkthroughs, but most seem to require that you either have an already-hacked PSP, or that you follow their instructions to create a Pandora battery (which I already have) and then steps after the Pandora battery creation are reliant on things that happened DURING the creation of the Pandora battery.

Can anyone please guide me to a walk-through that fits my situation, or hold my hand to get me started? This is really frustrating --- back in the day I hacked the hell out of original Xbox units so my friends and I could bask in the glory of XBMC, but for some reason this process is going right over my head.

Okay, so I'm getting my PSP (non-slim) back after about eight months in a few days. I want to update the custom firmware to play things like Crisis Core, etc. I think I left it at 3.03OE-A? It's been a while, so I might be wrong. Is this going to be a big hassle?

Please look at this guide for installing CFW using a previously purchased Datel TOOL or Pandora Battery: (same for you Ronok)

This is just way too much work for not all that much gain. I'm going to stick to Sony's own firmware until I run out of actual PSP games to play.

Sorry I can't understand that reasoning. It takes what 10 minutes from start to finished flashed CFW PSP. But whatever..

it takes a long time but you're not actually doing anything for most of the time, just opening something and letting it install. It's really not much work at all. Stop being a gurly mahn and get on it!

Hey, I appreciate the response, but I actually kept digging and stopped making assumptions about my situation, and was able to figure it out. Funny how it works out when you stop assuming you know WTF you're doing and actually listen to what people are saying. :-(

I'm at 3.71 M33-2 and working on upgrading from there. Thanks again for the link, though!

I know this is so stupid, but could you post or maybe pm me a list of "must have" aps?
I ordered a Pandora ( tool ) battery that should be here soon, and will be using it on a psp slim.
I have peeked around a few sites but it seems that there are multiple versions of every emu and program.

I have a service battery for the PSP. I also have the Backup of the firmware on a 2gb stick (didn't have smaller at the time). I know a 8gb works, but I think it wasn't enable until 2.90 or around there. But it does work as you confirmed.

Just format the new stick in your PSP and your good to go. No special device needed.

Is there any update on getting a slim to run 1.5 apps?

Its called Time Machine and its a custom 1.50/3.40 hybrid CFW that will run 1.50FW only apps on Slim PSP.

That did the trick. However, I still have a slight problem with svcapture. I can take screenshots of the cross media bar fine, but nothing happens when I try to take in-game screenshots. I keep mashing the music note to no avail :(

Thanks!

Also, I have a problem. Whenever I wake my PSP from sleep, it turns itself off. This is very annoying prompting me to save whenever I can before putting it to sleep. Does anyone else have this issue? Is it fixable? I've got a soft-modded pandora battery with a magic memory stick.

You need to use the UPMS installer guide in the OP to install Boosters IPL with sleep fix. This will cure your issue.
Download the UPMS program and run the UPMS CSO and only run the 1st part, IPL tools.

Some random stuff that I've used, all working on the Slim:

CPS1PSP/CPS2PSP/MVSPSP - Arcade emulators and probably the most impressive homebrew I've seen on PSP. They run all the system's games perfectly (to my eyes, at least), even up to the most recent stuff. Latest versions are all 2.3.1.

ScummVM - Sam & Max, Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Broken Sword, etc on the move. I shouldn't need to explain why that's a good thing.

Bookr - PDF/text reader. Useful for reading stuff on the move and a very slick, professional interface.

PicoDrive - Genesis/Sega CD emulator which isn't quite as perfect as the above arcade emulators, but it's very close. Sonic CD on the move = win.

PSPFiler - File manager that lets you edit and delete stuff on your Memory Stick, but it's worth keeping around for other functions like the ability to rip UMDs directly to the Stick and re-arrange game icons in the XMB.

Very much appreciated.
It is all so freaking confusing :lol
I ordered a Pandora battery and now I see people talking about different kinds of pandora batteries and I see that this program works on this but then won't work on that so definitely appreaciate the straight answer :D

I made an ISO out of my FF7 Disc 2 original cd...can't get this shit to work on 3.71 M33-2. Used PSX2PSP 1.2 to create the eboot, threw in the keys.bin file from a copy I had downloaded which didn't work either. Should I update to 3.90? I need to start Disc 2!!!

Mejilan

I use RS GUI POPStationMD v3 to create both single-disc and multi-disc eboots. No need for keys.bin or any nonsense like that.

Hell, I ripped all 3 discs of FFVII the other night and converted them into 1 consolidated eboot, in honor of Crisis Core's imminent release.

Where can I get that? And what version of CFW are you running?

A sad day for me, as I hold my mangled PSP by its wrist strap. What were the odds of a blind man bumping me from behind, causing me to drop it from almost two floors to the ground below during a medical check-up? What were the odds?

At least the memory stick and battery are still good. The rest...

Yeah.

Where can you safely get any PSP homebrew app? www.qj.net of course.
I've been using 3.71 M33-4 for months, but considering that GoW required 3.90 (apparently), and Crisis Core is coming out even later, I updated to 3.90 M33-2 the same night I ripped FFVII. This is on my Slim. I'm keeping my PSP-1000 on 3.71 M33-4 just in case. It also has my Pandora.

OK, now let me read and figure out how to do this.

ok gaffers, in one hand i have my PAL copy of Final Fantasy IX, and in the other my PSP with CF 3.90 M33-2...how in the hell do i get an EBOOT from the disc, to my PSP? Ive tried using MagicISO, but when i load the game, it just comes up as a black screen. Any help?

Hai Gaf! :D

I'm thinking about picking a psp slim up tomorrow, although I do have some questions:

-Does it come with a Memory Stick?
-What FW is it being shipped with (And do I need another PSP to get CFW on it? I have a friend available who has one, so that shouldn't be a problem..)

If you buy the Daxter pack yes (1gig) , if not no.

I will leave the second question to someone else, but I believe the answer is that it depends which method that you use.

Ah, thanks elbkhm. I got info from them this morning too but this is good information for folks that want to know. I think I'll pick up the Tool Slim so I don't have to do anything to my current battery. The Service Tool switches betwee Service and Regular but it also writes a generic serial I hear, heh.
