Do you have a UMD disc in your PSP? Turn off NO UMD MODE and disable the advanced options in Recovery Menu.
No, no UMD in.

And, sorry, but I don't know what the Recovery Menu is. Where is it?

Question, is it possible to install a custom firmware after upgrading my PSP Slim to the newest v3.93 firmware ?

navanman said:
That sounds like a bad flash or corrupt settings. Two things you can do:
Boot into M33 Recovery Menu, go to Advanced Settings, then "format flash1 and reset settings"
Make the UPMS Pandora using the instructions in the OP and re-flash your PSP again.

Sorry, this is just through irShell. Normally, it's fine.

Ok Gaf...um...help?

I have in my hand a brand new psp slim, I did the Pandora Battery bit and now seem to have 3.80 m33-5 installed.
First there seems to be a small oddity...I can swear that the O and the X buttons are reversed... is that hard to fix?

To the main point though....what do I need next and is there a special order I need to do it in?

You can reverse O and X via the Recovery Console. Shut down the PSP and reboot while holding R. It's there somewhere.

As to what you need next... need for what? You'll have to be more specific about what you want to do. My recommendation? Upgrade up to 3.90 M33-2, as 3.80 is fairly crappy.

You simply have to go in the Recovery menu (hold R while your PSP turns on) go in Registry hacks and choose button assign.

A couple of nights ago I typed up a handy resource to ripping your PSOne games and converting them to PSP executables (and making them sexy). It's by no means an awesome, Navanman-style tutorial, but it is handy. To minimize searching, I've copied it into my OP. If nothing else, the links are dead-useful.

Brain fart kept me from thinking of copying it into the OP. Sorry. I might still turn it into a full-blown tutorial, but in the mean time, it's better than nothing, yes?

sweeeet!! i got some psx games working.

now i have another question. is there anything i should backup and keep in case something bad happens?

i did a nand backup before i installed the cfw. dunno what is or what it is for. should it be done everytime i update my firmware?

I probably dumped my NAND once or twice in the past, but it's nothing I ever needed. I think that was more important in the pre-Pandora days, when you could use it to recover from a partial-bricking. It might still be sorta relevant today, but in my years cracking a dozen or so PSPs, it's never been an issue.

As for backups, make periodic backups of the important contents of your memory stick (especially your save games, of course). I tend to reformat my memory stick before and after every major CFW installation. (Not the M33-x patches).

I am seriously getting frustrated all to hell.
I can not get anything to work yet other than the actual downgrade and firmware install.

This is the kind of readme that I am getting
}ƒbƒp[”ԍ†ACRC“™‚̃f[ƒ^(NNNesterJ‚̃ƒjƒ…[ [Help]->[ROMinfo] ‚ŏo‚½“à—e)

I have popcap working on my pc (i think) along with picodrive, nesterj cps1psp,cps2psp, mvspsp and the programs show on my mem stick but nothing else is being found.

Edit (Ok the capcom ones work awesome and was able to back up lumines and run it from memory)

Finally pushed it onto 3.90 M33, spent an hour or so going through the motions of what Mejilan said last page for ease of use in terms of popsloader firmware versions and I must say I am very pleased.

Had FFVII up and running like a dream and it is now time to begin ripping.

Yes with a pandora battery

A friend of mine just got his Pandora battery and he just installed the CFW into his Slim PSP. He is lending me the battery to do it on mine, any chances of bricking my PSP or if I follow the instructions around, it's kind of fool proof ?

um, I think the Pandora battery is really designed to unbrick PSPs...so there seems to be no chance, and if you do, you can use the battery to unbrick it....that is what it does, goes into service mode no matter how effed up things are.

yes, for anyone that has a basic level of reading ability, it's pretty safe.

If you brick it somehow, Pandora will unbrick it. :D

So now that the PS3 is updated to 2.20 and has the ability to use the PSP as a music remote control, I'm thinking about upgrading my PSP phat to 3.90-2 (from 3.71-4). Few questions though:

1.) Do I need to upgrade the PSP firmware to take advantage of this new PS3 feature?
2.) The past new pages seem to indicate memory card speeds & ISOs/CSOs have been fixed with fatmsmod correct?
3.) Any news on getting to 3.93? Anything require 3.93 at this point?
4.) Is 3.71 pops still the best version for FF7 and 3.72 pops still the best version for DQVII?

I'm picking up Final Fantasy in like 2 seconds (metal box FTW) so I probably need to upgrade to something like today :)

After upgrading to 3.90 M33-2, the PS1 games that I had purchased from the Playstation Store no longer work. Do I just need to redownload them to get updated keys, or does CFW permanently break the ability to buy stuff from the Sony store?

I don't know about DQ but FF7 still uses 3.71 for best results. The only other answer I may be able to give is that I don't think 3.93 is required for anything. As far as I know it was very minor.

So I have a PSP Slim with 3.93 on it, a friend sent me a pandora battery and a 256mb MS. I'm tryng to follow some of these directions but it seems the 2 stating >3.80M33 and <3.80M33 is the same thing.

So I'm confused lol.

edit:

I think I may have found my answer.

g35twinturbo, let me know your results. I will be doing the same thing tonight.

Another question, after installing the custom firmware, do I still have the same functionality of remote use of the PS3, custom themes, etc ?

Yes pretty much. Except you lose the Location Free player and the Korean font.

Did you try installing popsloader? I went from 3.71 M33-4 to 3.90 M33-2 and didn't need popsloader, but I think that's because I made all the eboots myself.

I installed it anyway with this guide: http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=5531

I only have 3.71 installed at the moment cause everything worked for me with 3.71. You might wanna try it out. I have no clue if this will work with Playstation Store downloads though...

You can definitely still buy stuff from the Sony store. Have you tried removing your PSP from your account and then reactivating it?

It probably does and the screen doesn't work, like with my japanese fat for some reason. UPMS will display stuff but despertar del cementerio is a blank screen and I have to blindly flash by hitting X.

Does the power light come on?~_~

the power light doesn't come on either :(

Ok that chatroom was unfortunately no help.
But so far I have cps1, cps2, nestorj, snes something or other working completely.
The only things that I still can not get around are sega cd on picodrive (sonic keeps saying "no usa file found") and with mvspsp it loads but the games give errors while trying to load.
MAME4ALL just freezes at the game select screen.
I am trying to rip ffvii now so will see how that goes next.
But if anyone is familiar with the above programs any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

If the green power light doesn't come on, the battery is drained. Just charge it in the PSP for an hour and try again.

Well results are in!

So even though it didn't show anything on screen or power up. I plugged in the AC power and did the commands and it worked fine :D

So now I am on 3.80-4 M33 :D

That method I linked in a prior post worked out smoothly, ALOT easier than the OP.

Now I just need to figure out how to get some aps running on here for backup my purchased games onto my 8GB stick. I'm gonna read through the thread. but thanks to the people for the help and info!

You know what? I'd like to have the newest custom firmware on my PSP slim, but I don't have the time, nor the knowledge, to get into the specifics. The amount of upgrading, backwards upgrading, and custom mod jargon thrown around in the thread here is making my head spin.

So, unfortunately, it looks like I'm stuck as is. Unless someone in Chicago wants to help out a fellow Gaffer.

I felt that way too when I first started but believe me, unless you are a complete fucking retard, you can do this. Just read the instructions carefully.

TEAM CFW..GO GO GO...

Anyway, FYI, the guide in the OP is how to make your own Pandora Battery & MS incase you want to mod someone else's PSP or re-flash your own.

The firmware is honestly the easiest part of the whole thing, there are great walk throughs in this thread.

Woot, just got the AT3 codec for Sony Vegas so now I'm making my own .at3 files (sound files when you preview games on the PSP for those that don't know). Just made some solid ones for Wipeout and Wipeout XL using an old Future Sound of London track and Firestarter by Prodigy, respectively.

I'm available to make for anyone who wants some for their games. The files are just a few hundred kb at highest quality.

1. Can someone tell me the difference between:

a)
410g9OUsPkL._AA280_.jpg

and

b)
41K8YRQSKSL._AA280_.jpg

?

BTW, a) is cheaper than b)

2. Is there any place that sells memory sticks for cheap and ships outside of USA [in my case, Mexico]?

ugh. i'm trying to extract the iso from mgs using isobuster and i keep getting the error message that there is an unreadable sector on disc one.

the disc is brand new from the essentials collection.

A has faster transfer speeds iirc.

I had some weird issues with Isobuster too. Go with Alcohol 52%. You can use the trial version to do full rips. Alcohol has an actual PlayStation disk setting when ripping (1st screen of the image making wizard...and make sure you choose .ccd image on the 2nd screen of the same wizard) and in the past week I've ripped FF7, Wipeout, Wipeout XL, and Destruction Derby 2 (and played them) without any problems.
