PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I was just spent some time trying to downgrade a friend's 3.52 phat before realizing that my psp was 3.90 m33-2, and not compatible with Navanman's excellent write up.

I've read Mejilan's post about downgrading his own phat, but i can't quite follow how it was that he did it. What is the easiest way to go down to 3.71 from 3.90? I have an old Pandora battery but no MEM stick. Would it be easier to create a new mem stick so i can have a spare pandora?

Thanks in advance dudes.

Your PSP on 3.90 M33-2 will work fine with my guide in the OP and can be used to downgrade your friends PSP.

If you also want to back to 3.71 M33 from 3.90 M33-2, you also use the UPMS downgrade guide in the OP, and use DC V3 to flash 3.71 M33-2

Eh? I'm pretty sure that the most recent version of the UPMS Installer (as discussed in Navanman's tutorial) was made compatible with both 3.80 M33 and 3.90 M33. I had an issue downgrading because then, UPMS Installer only worked up to 3.71 M33. That's no longer a problem. You'll definitely need a matched memory stick to go with whatever Pandora you wind up using. But once you're back to 3.71 M33, you can do whatever you want with your memory stick (and battery, actually).

I know that people have said that 8 GB Memory Sticks work with firmwares 3.80 and above, but does all software work on sticks that large? (In particular, would POPSLoader work?)

I personally know for a fact that popsloader works with an 8GB MS, that is the size I currently use on my pspslim

Hey guys, I've come up with another problem. I have a Pandora Battery and a MMS 1GB and I'm trying to format my 2GB to a MMS as well since it will fit my games easier.

But... when I run the UPMS from the new MMS the 'Step 1. IPL Tools.' is Disabled. Why?

Isn't that where I need to go to do this =>

"If you have more than one MS, run the UPMS installer again from that MS and only install "Sleep Fix Multi-IPL to Memory Stick"."

With a Pandora, you'll be able to downgrade.

acevans, not sure about your issue. Try redownloading UPMS Installer, perhaps?

Wait, format it so it will fit your games easier? After you use the MMS with the Pandora and put custom firmware on your PSP, neither are any longer necessary. You now have a perfectly hacked PSP, and can turn both the stick and the battery back to normal with no consequence.

See, I dunno. The tutorial says that I should run that UPMS thing on the new MS(that I want to be a MMS), but it's disabled. And my PSP isn't turning on with the new one in it, just the old MMS.

Put the new memory stick in your PSP, but take your battery out. Plug it into the AC, then boot up that way. Plug the battery back in once it's fully booted up. Now try running the UPMS Installer and magick'ing up that new memory stick.

I was downloading the UPMS installer directly from the link in the old post. I'm currently downloading the new build.

Much appreciated once again!

I can't get popsloader to work. Before I go ahead and read through this thread, just a quick question: Is it possible its not working because I've messed up my rip? (In this case, FFVII to one eboot)

The game boots fine, but I can't change the pops version and it freezes on the first fight. I'm pretty certain I've done everything right with popsloader (followed a very detailed step-by-step, enabled the plugin, put lots of prx files in the popsloader folder etc) so I'm thinking I've messed up the eboot..

Are you using the right version of POPSLoader for your custom firmware?

www.dark-alex.org

Make sure to download the 3.80 version if you're on 3.80 M33-x or 3.90 M33-x. You can keep the same POPS prx files as you have, just replace the plugin and related files.

Do themes work with 3.71 M33-4? I've been trying to put one and it hasn't been working. You put the file in X:\PSP\THEME right?

Well, i tried it again and nothing guys. Does the batt level need to be at a certain level? Moon and star a certain alignment? Who knows, i'm stuck on 3.52 m33-4 :/

DCX

you sure you waited long enough? it takes a looong time to do some of that stuff. a couple of times i thought it "froze" but it definitely didn't

haha i was pretty scared too, didnt have any problems, was a lil tough to get it open, just make sure to angle it

Mine never actually opened from the cutting, but then i went at it with a screwdriver and pried it heh

I didn't try the whole mechanical pencil thing to un-pandoraize it, so can't say much about that, i figure its good for me to keep a pandora battery around incase i ever mess things up (already have once)

they seem to have some pretty cheap batteries here http://www.bestbatt.com - anyone used offbrand ones, or should i stick with official?

question: someone mentioned that it is loading is actually faster through the umd instead of running off a mem stick.

Is that true?

wow, so im opening my battery with a razor and everything is going great....then it pokes through the bottom and severs a foil link to the chip. now my battery wont work, any ideas on how to fix it?
here is a picture of an undamaged one, the piece i cut is on the other side closest to the chip.

What loads faster via UMD than mem stick?
An uber-compressed CSO might run faster as a UMD if the game features tons of streaming, but that's easily resolved by running the game as an uncompressed ISO instead. That'll be faster than a UMD almost all the time. I suppose YMMV depending on your mem stick, though. Stick with quality brands, however, and it's a non-issue.

3.90 M33-3

Requeriments:

- 3.52 M33-3 or higher

Instructions.

- Copy UPDATE folder to /PSP/GAME and run the program.

If you are in 3.90 M33, that's all needed.
If you are in previous version, you need to download 390.PBP and put it in same folder or let
the program to download it for you.

Changes:

- March33 noumd driver compatibiilty has increased to support games like Coded Arms, Patapon, Harvest Moon Innocent Life and probably others affected by same errors.

Oh god now I will need a new version of cwcheat too :( but it's good to see D-A is still on the case.

I imagine that the relatively recent CWCheat 0.2.2 Rev A would still work fine. I'll report back shortly, in any case.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
Well, my launch PSP finally died. Used it heavily, flashed it many, many times. Even resurrected it via Pandora after it bricked itself once.

Now, when I turn it on, I just get a black screen. Power LED is green... That's it.

I'm gonna do the Pandora thing on Monday when I get my hands on another cfw PSP.

If all else fails, I'll just get a slim...even though I don't like it as much due to the weight, or lack thereof.

Doubt it. Seems like he'll be updating his M33 ISO Loader going forward, and not too concerned with fixing what Sony broke in their own ISO Loader. At least, I imagine he'd have mentioned something about it in the readme, had he fixed it.

3.90 M33-3 update went fine here as well. I also updated my Pandora setup to Despertar del Cementerio v5 (now installs 3.90 M33-3 directly and works with PSPs that have had Time Machine installed), which was similarly easy.

Just a quick Popsloader question for the resident experts: I converted Final Fantasy VII using that GUI and it's working fine, my first multi-disc EBOOT and the first time I bothered making XMB icons and sounds for it (hey, I had an afternoon to kill). I assume that since it's a multi-disc game it needs to be run on 3.71 pops or higher, and I'm running it seemingly without problems on that one, but is there a recommended version to use for the game? I don't want to get halfway through and run into some game-killing bug.

In a similar vein, what about Metal Gear Solid? That's running perfectly except occasional sound blips or speech going out of sync in cut-scenes (mainly codec sequences). It's worse in the 3.72 pops than 3.71, but I'm wondering if the fact that I compressed the EBOOT has something to do with it. Would it be worth re-ripping it and compressing it at level 5 rather than 9?

Thanks.

POPS 3.71 happens to be the best version of POPS for FFVII. I've put about 24 hours into my game so far (Temple of the Ancients) and I've yet to experience one major flaw.

Yeah, I'm only a couple of hours in but it's been flawless so far. It was one of the first games I tried when D_A released Popstation and that version was a bit flaky, with the messed up battle swirls and stuff.

Now if only I could get that save off my PS3...

Gotta love it. I went via Network Update as well. I only downloaded the archive from DA's site in order to check out and post the readme.

Edit - Just to bring the news up to the top of the new page...
