Unofficial gpSP Kai version 3.2 test 8.7
http://pspupdates.qj.net/Unofficial...7-bug-fixes-TV-output-tweaks/pg/49/aid/110150

Still the best one available today. He's got a somewhat newer test version which adds new functionality, but it's still in very early test phases and pretty buggy. If you're looking for stability, performance, and compatibility, then this GBA emu is pretty damn ace. I'm actually going out of my way to use my NDS homebrew tools to rip my own GBA ROMs and saves... only to play them on the PSP using this emu. It's actually easier to do that than it is to get them running on my NDS via flashcarts! :lol

sweet, considering the one I was trying last night was test 0.7 and the PSP would freeze when trying to load a ROM, hopefully this one will work better

Yeah it does work very well, even addition save function to allow save anytime which it is great for RPG or Zelda.

Oooo, new unofficial version for SNES as well, I will testing it after I finish with Thousand Arms.

I finally got around to the whole CFW gig, and I've been ripping my UMD's today. I got the program to compress them, but I don't know if I should worry about using the default (max) compression setting. Is it detrimental at all?

What program are you using? I use PSP ISO Compressor v1.4, at level 9 with NC (Audio). That has always worked great for me...

I rip them with USB SSS and to compress I am using UMDGen, it showed up first in google. I guess maybe I compressed too hard because the Grand Theft Auto games were suddenly giving me low battery screens when I have 55%? How bizzare.

No errors like that when I put the UMD in. Im thinking Ill just keep them uncompressed, Im not really looking to carry a bunch around on the stick at a time, 2-4 is fine, and Im gonna get a 4 gig stick.

I will say that holy fucking shit these games load like theyre on cartridges when I rip them and turn on the 333mhz option. This is nice! It'd a little tedious to rip on my current pc though, filled to the brim and I only got an 80GB hd. It'll be nice when I finish my new PC next week and have a 750GB hd.

The one thing the SNES emu really needs is to improve the automatic frameskipping algorithm, or at least put in fixed fractional frameskipping. Just about every game that doesn't use a special chipset never dips below full speed if you set frameskip to 1, however A) most of the time they don't need frameskipping at all to run full speed (they usually only slow down for Mode 7 or if there's a bunch of sprites on screen) and B) frameskip 1 is bad because it causes flashing sprites to disappear. Obviously the best solution would be to use automatic frameskipping, but the auto frameskip algorithm A) skips frames when it doesn't need to, B) skips more frames than it needs to to run full speed and C) sometimes plays games at only 57 or 54 hz. The PSP probably isn't capable of emulating some Mode 7 effects at full 60 fps, so improving the frameskipping would be the next best solution.

OK, I dunno if someone's already mentioned this but SNES9X TYL has gotten A HUUUUUGE upgrade from some anonymous JP devs.

1) Save state loading no longer fucks the music up

2) VSYNC OFFICIALLY WORKS AT FULLSPEED @ 300MHZ (I still keep mine at 333)

3) Apparently fixed the crashing bugs, but thanks to 1, this isn't quite as crucial

4) Much much better speeds overall, before the mode7 part of Lufia II would slow to a crawl, but now it's fullspeed, and only slows down (and not nearly as much as before) when it is rotating + mode7
Just FYI, the save state music bug was fixed months ago.. Also if a game has graphical errors you can try switching engine modes by pressing L+Start (or just change it in the menu). Sometimes PSP accelrated + approx software has bugs that are fixed by switching to PSP accelerated or PSP accelerated + accurate software, etc.

So I'm about to install custom firmware, and I just dumped my nand. But during the dump, the PSP recorded three "bad block at (insert number).

Is my nand dump worthless? If so...would the bad blocks indicate a problem with the PSP's nand, or with the memory stick I copied it to?

damn, same problem, freezes and restarts when I try to load a rom. I have actually resorted to the PSP since running them on the DS was such a pain.

Ah well. It's all somewhat academic now, as I discovered a small blemish on the PSP screen. Something between a scratch and a micro-dent, about the size of a pixel. Enough to piss me off, so back it goes. I'll be trying this again tomorrow with a taint-free replacement. Hopefully I won't run into the same issue.

On the plus side, it's a fantastic little gadget. I've yet to crack open GoW, but mucking about with the tertiary features really impressed me. It feels much better in the hands than I imagined. Less prissy and fragile. The analogue nub will take some getting used to though - must be murder on the thumb joints in game.

Anyway. Nand dumps and such.

Also, what's the significance of your tag?

Fire Emblem.

I made up a name to make a rather serious point in the Richard Gaywood thread, mod thought it was funny, gave me a tag. Sadly, he did not link the post which the tag is referring.

Because I know GAF is awaiting a progress report with bated breath...

I picked up my new PSP. Flawless screen this time, no dents or dead pixels. Nand dump worked beautifully, with no bad blocks on the new system. I now have 3.90 M33-3 installed, and I'm joyous.

However, I'm having problems with video playback: none of my MP4 files work. My memory stick is formatted correctly (tried reformatting a couple of times - no luck) and works perfectly with music, video files are in the VIDEO folder at the root of the stick where they should be; but every one I've tried shows up as unsupported data. Most of them are h.264, 640X480, and they work perfectly on my PS3. I know creative file names and specific resolutions used to be required for PSP playback, but I read that these restrictions were no longer in place.

Any idea what the problem is?

EDIT: After some experimentation, I find that re-encoding the files to a smaller size makes them work perfectly. I know I've read that current firmware supports full size MP4 files, so why does it appear I have to convert all my 640x480 files to 480x200?

Well, I've been out of the loop for a bit because I didn't have my PSP but I have it again! I was wondering, is there any good book readers or sorts for the PSP?

I figured it was nothing hate-filled. Couldn't imagine the mods allowing that. Besides, this Jew's a-helpin' ya!

That said, I tested both US Fire Emblems on my PSP, and both loaded just fine. Hell, so did the saves I ripped from my retail carts, happily enough! Bum ROM, then?

what are your CPU speed's at? I thought possibly that might have something to do with it?? (but what the hell do I now)

Back before Sony put the option to change wallpaper, I used one of the homebrew applications to put my own wallpaper into the flash. It's still there. How do I delete it?

Stakker, awesome new homebrew game

http://www.mk2k.net/releases/psp/games/stakker_psp_update2-mk2k.zip

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jn27Hi59bw0

Description
As a consequence to my previously released port of the Chipmunk Physics Engine to the PSP here is my new release: Stakker PSP.
Stakker PSP is a fun game of building up and destroying towers made out of falling blocks. Build up your tower on the platform and don't let any piece fall off. If you reach high enough, destroy it with a projectile coming from the left and get points for each piece falling off the platform and bouncing against the screen borders.
Stakker PSP is officially entered to the PSP-Hacks Homebrew Idol 2008 Competition.
It is coded in C++ using the JGE++ engine, the Chipmunk Physics engine and some funtions from pgeLib courtesey to InsertWittyName.
It features a hardcorbreaks soundtrack by DJ Runningman, thanks to him for permission to use his tunes.
Features

* Heavily physics-based Gameplay
* Online Score System
o View and upload your best attempts to mess with the best in the world!
o You can also point your web browser to http://stakkerpsp.mk2k.net/scores/
* GameShare
o Send this game over to your friend's PSP and have a nice fight for the first place in the online list
* MP3 Playback
o Automatically loads your music files in mp3 format from ms0:/MUSIC
o Plays back 44kHz mp3s in all bitrates you could think of
o Skip tracks, stop and start the player right in the game
* Custom Themes
o Put a JPEG image called theme.jpg in Stakker's directory to have it loaded as a new background (480x272 size recommended)

So I got my pandora battery in the mail today and I was wondering if anyone could direct me to walkthrough on installing custom firmware that even a 4 year old could understand. I have a psp slim with firmware 3.90 btw.

Starting from which firmware? I don't want to upgrade to 3.80 or 3.90 at this point in time, but hi-res video is mighty tempting.

I've been out of the loop for a while. I"ve been having problems using remoteplay. It doesn't seem to work from anywhere other than my home, or other people's homes. From my school, i get 100% connection but it times out when i try to connect. Also when i park in front of a house and piggy-back their connections, i can browse the 'net but not remote play.

I believe i'm on 3.8, did i miss any significant updates?

Thanks in advance!

Because supported full resolution is 720x480, not 640.

IIRC around 3.40.

I know this is a PSP thread but I need an answer to my question regarding playing PS1 games on PS3. Will I be able to play my ripped ISO files from memory card on my PS3 ?

Improved as of this past week or so. Finally. Still far from perfect, but it's good to see a new team pick the emulator back up... and finally improve it.

Set this and OpenBOR (Beats of Rage) up last night. Interesting stuff. Stakker kind of reminds me of a combination of Boom Blox lite and Pocket Physics (DS homebrew). OpenBOR = all kinds of portable beat 'em up action. Awesome shit.

So after much fiddling around (TotalNewbieEasyInstaller didn't work for me) I got my psp homebrew enabled. :D

I now have firmware 3.80 M33-5 on my psp (slim line). I was wondering do I need to upgrade to 3.90, which version, and how should I do that?

Also what software do you guys recommend?

Mejilan

Running off of Custom Firmware
3.80 M33 is kind of crap. Just move up to 3.90 M33-3. At least, I think that's the most recent version. It's been quite some time since I last checked (or updated).

Just to be sure, all I need to do is download the latest version from D_A and put in a folder called UPDATE right?

Also which applications do you recommend I install?

Yeah. 3.90 M33-3 is the latest, still. Anything beyond 3.90 is a hack and not worth the effort. There's more bugs and bricks than is worth the trivial update.

You needn't even bother. Flick on the WLAN switch and try out DA's new Network Update option. That'll patch you up to the newest DA CFW!

What kinds of applications are you looking for? You need to be a LITTLE bit more specific, you know.

I was under the impression that the network update only worked after 3.90. I'll check it out :)

Well I guess I was wondering if I need anything extra to play my ps1 games as soon as I rip them.

Ahhh... I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that 3.80 M33's biggest calling card was the new Network Update. Well, that and the bugs, anyway!

M33 firmware can launch PSOne ISOs converted to eboots (PSP executables) and PSP UMD ISOs or CSOs (compressed ISOs) natively, if they're placed in the proper locations.

UMD ISOs/CSOs go in x:/ISO
PSOne eboots go in their own folders (one per game) under x:/PSP/GAME

Edit - So yeah, regarding converting your PSOne ISOs to PSP executables (eboots), hit up Red Squirrel's RSPOPStationGUIMD v3. It's my current favorite conversion tool, handling single disc and multi disc conversions with aplomb, and allowing full customization of the eboots (custom backgrounds, jingles, static icons, animated icons, etc.)

No problem. Good luck. And good choice. Hell, IIRC, that game compresses REALLY well. I was playing it a few months back.

Boot the PSP holding the R trigger.

Which will take you to the recovery menu, yes, and from there you'll be able to swap X and O. Search a around amongst the options a bit, but I wouldn't touch what you don't understand.
