PSP Custom Firmware Thread

From what I've read on MaxConsole, using M33 driver is recommended for the time being.

That's the only one that worked for me.

I'm running 3.80 M33-2

I was running some genesis games after installing the 1.5 add-on and it freezes the psp after a few minutes of use. Anybody else getting this?

Oh snap! Haven't tried any games yet. I can't believe the Sony loader could be broken by this upgrade. Hmm...am I gonna have to downgrade back to 3.71? Is the M33 loader any good? I've been using NP9660 since it's compatible with everything and really fast. Hope this gets ironed out soon. I wonder if this is something Sony did when they changed the firmware around. PEACE.

This is what DA has said about it:

DA said:

Rough translation; Sony has rewritten the entire memory stick access library. (that's why ISO reading is giving problems)

I was trying to play Final Fantasy VII earlier via POPS, but I got to the first fight and the game glitched, with the screen going all messed up with colours and such, and it froze in this state. This is my first experience with POPS, and this was my first multi-disk eboot. I used a compression ratio of 9 on it, could that have been the problem?

It's normal. They broke it with the new FW version, you have to wait for a new popsloader* plugin.

*allows you to load previous version of the PSX emulator.

Ah ok, I'll keep that to one side, got plenty of other things to play in the mean time.

Hm, I noticed a lot of slowdown that wasn't there in the previous CFW whilst playing Outrun 2006.. I hope DA can find patch this somehow.

Make sure the clockspeed didn't go back to the default. Happened to me last upgrade, even though the in-XMB fw menu said otherwise.

Yeah, I'm pretty annoyed by all this, and would like to downgrade back to 3.71 M33-4, but wouldn't you know it, my Pandora battery is kinda borked and none of the various installers I've checked out work with 3.80 M33, so I can't restore it. :(

Anytime i try to install the 3.80 update my psp bricks. It goes up 99% and then I get a error message.

When I try to go from 3.52m33-4, it still does not work....what could possible be causing this ?

You've tried from 3.71 M33-4 and 3.52 M33-4?

I don't know, perhaps try running KeyCleaner (by ChillyWilly, IIRC)?

You have to be using 3.71M33 to update. I don't know if you were already, didn't quite catch what you meant by the post.

Good thing I held off for a bit. I had read about the fatmsmod change and how it was causing slow down and currently people are playing around with decrypting the 3.52 fatmsmod.prx and seeing some improvements. I don't think you can just yank it from 3.52 though, think I remember reading that you had to do some header changes.

Lesson learned. Next time, I'm definitely going to hold off on updating until I get some feedback of some sort. The stuttering is annoying but not enough for me to mess with the flash memory.

Then I installed 3.80 M33, then 3.80 M33-2. I reformatted my card with windows, as FAT32. Then with PSP, and 3.80 M33-2 formatted to FAT instead of FAT32. Now it's not choppy. Works fine."

Yeah... I don't know about that list. My Sony 8gb works flawlessly.
It's a list compiled from people posting on maxconsole's forums stating that they were having slowdown or problems. It can be taken with a grain of salt but is worth noting before updating if you still are cautious.

I second this. I have a Lexar 4GB as well. It's funny how that list has the Lexar 4GB on both "Not Working" and "Working".

Does the same problem occur with ISOs?

I'm not sure I've yet to play any games on 3.80 I'm just going from maxconsole etc.

gta vcs = iso works fine as far as tested
gta vcs = cso (compression3) is choppy as hell (works fine on 3.52/ 3.71)

It would explain why the list has the same sticks under "working" and "not working" as some people try CSO and others are trying ISO.

Can't put that much faith into the list when its not set testing conditions.

Yes, but it's not as pronounced. Some wouldn't even notice the difference.

Edit: The same items are on both lists because some people do have problems while others don't. My blue 4gb Sandisk is affected, while many mention that their Sandisks work fine.

CSO is COMPRESSED. That means it has to spend processor cycles decrypting it.
God, I can't believe we're still having this discussion YEARS after this came out.

Lexar has the slowest read speeds and Sandisk is the fastest. You can find programs to test it.

I haven't noticed any stuttering, slowdowns, increased loads, or missing games/saves with my blue/opaque 4gb Sandisk, FWIW.

Excellent! I think I've discovered a way to get my Slim back to 3.71 M33.

I found a basic Pandora installer (Hellcat's) that's been ported to 3.80 and successfully reconverted my borked Pandora into a vanilla one. It's now in the process of downgrading my Fat to 1.50. 78%!

From there I'll upgrade it to 3.71 M33-4 and use UPMS Installer Emerald to reconvert my now-working vanilla Pandora into a trusty multi-purpose Pandora that should be able to flash 3.71 M33 over my Slim's 3.80 M33-2!

Woo! (I hope!)

Edit 1 - Holy shit. 1.50! What horrible memories. *bizzarf*

Edit 2 - Upgrading to 3.52 M33. 26%

Edit 3 - Upgrading to 3.71 M33. 63%

Edit 4 - Fat's fully loaded with 3.71 M33-4 and the 1.50 v2 patch. Now to get started with UPMS and get my battery upgraded to handle my Slim...

You MUST be at 3.52 M33-3 or 3.52 M33-4 to install any M33 CFWs 3.71 or higher.
I'm new to this so I didn't know that I needed to install 3.52 M33-3 first. After installing 3.52-3, can go straight to 3.71 M33?

yes.

btw, you can go straight from 3.52 m33 to 3.52 m33-4, the minor "m33-x" updates are cumulative

I can confirm that both the 4 GB Sony and the 8 GB Sony Memory Sticks work perfectly with 3.80 M33-2.
there is so much to consider when people talk about what stick works... is it a real stick, how was it formatted, what was it formatted with, etc...

You know what absolutely sucks balls? That watching DVD's and Blu-ray's with remote play does not work... At least videos from my PC with the media server works, although I haven't tested it yet.

UPMS Installer is currently using my restored Fatty to create a multi-purpose Pandora. This will take a good long while.

But I'm this much closer to getting Dragon Quest VII working again!

As far as I'm concerned 3.80 M33 has a way to go before it matches 3.71 M33-4.
