PSVR 2 Down In Price To £350 (UK)

Picked one up from Smyths. Gonna start with RE4 and GT7 since I already own them, any other recommendations? I didn't have PSVR so everything is new.

I just bought it for collection. On the fence about whether to collect it though. Think after No Man's Sky and Resi VIII it will probably collect dust.

What should I do Gaf?
We don't know. It's subjective.

Understand this though: VR has a terrible retention rate, and tethered VR much worse than untethered. With that said, I'm a tethered VR fan myself (PCVR) because I'm into flight and racing simulation.

There's plenty to be excited for when it comes to VR, but it also comes some obvious drawbacks. Which is why some people's VR honeymoon only last a week or two.

idk, get it at a place where you can return without questions asked, just in case.

Rez, Tetris Effect, Thumper, Beat saber, Horizon, Job Simulator

But in reality GT7 is all you need to get the value from it.

Firewall was so bad they shut the studio down and Switchback was an ugly mess at launch which VR 'influencers' were paid to lie about.
Best PSVR2 games are the rare indie gems that come out of nowhere. Organ Quarter, Propagation: Paradise Hotel, The Foglands, Cactus Cowboy, Runner, Legendary Tales, etc.

But yes, I agree completely about firewall and switchback.

Post in the PSVR2 OT and don't rely solely on YT reviews. The handful of channels are insanely harsh on some legit gems. Most games are pretty cheap, don't be afraid to take chances on games if they look fun to you. Or ask for input in the OT, we're all pretty well versed in there.

Lots available on Argos and Amazon.
Both Argos and Amazon didn't have any stock yesterday. Kind of annoying because people I know had to order from GAME and pay a £5 delivery fee on top. Wouldn't have needed to if they knew it would be back in stock at Amazon and Argos today.

Will probably pick one up in a year or do just to play all the games released so far. There must be 20 odd worth playing, which is more than enough, even if it is a dead platform.

Na ill stick with my quest 3, as usual with sony bring out some hardware and expect everyone else to support it, yet sony just deserted it, so glad i didnt jump in like i did with the origional psvr mind u there was some great games on that

Just like the Vita, the PSVR2 is a fantastic product and just like the Vita, Sony refuses to support it with quality software . I don't really understand what they hope to gain by employing this strategy once again.
It's difficult for Sony as a manufacturer to support 2 devices at the same time. They decided to ditch the Vita for the PS4 and it paid them big time.

People complain about not too many PS5 games available, can you imagine if they start to do a serious effort for PSVR2?

This isn't the issue at all. The current gaming publishers are struggling already with the bigger more mainstream normal gaming market and the downturn. Do people think the much smaller market that is VR isn't going to find it increasingly difficult to greenlight costly to develop games for a tiny market? The only people who can change that are consumers and their spending habits but they often harm themselves all the while complaining about it.

I have no regrets buying mine. Would I like more high quality games? Yes.

Did Gran Turismo and RE4/8 make it worth it to begin with? For me, yes. Also a notable call out is No Man's Sky.

You don't need to do this though. Half Life 2 VR mod shows that:
a) lots of first person games could be easily and cheaply converted to VR and work practically flawlessly
b) you don't need cutting edge graphics in a VR game the same way you do in a 2D game to make something look amazing
Sonys main problem is that they don't make first person games in the first place.

Mods are great but they're passion projects by fans who can spend countless hours on them and at the same time provide no real assurances of a product either. They don't ask for wages for hours spent or even charge for their creation. This is true of even regular games too where I've seen fans do better work than the companies. For example Nintendo remakes/remasters that Nintendo itself doesn't do, then Nintendo shuts down the project. I do wish more companies did do VR modes. I just feel there is a difference when it's a company looking for the financial benefits of doing something. Even 3rd person works in VR which Astrobot showed well.

But still you are talking about a fraction of the time, manpower and cost of making a game. Instead of making that Horizon game that everyone forget about 10 seconds after it came out, they could have added VR to multiple games.

Have to think the BOM is way higher than that.

This is just Sony trying to unload the remaining PSVR2 stock without loosing too much money.
Well, they've fucked up the project from the start. So I don't give a shit about how much money they lost/lose. Good hardware torpedoed by retarded decisions all around. Much like the Vita.

It's cheaper than a full blown game certainly. Ask yourself why Valve didn't do this itself either for Valve Index and the Steam games they publish but some fan had to make a mod instead. Probably still not worth it financially that's why.

Valve don't do it because they made Half Life Alyx instead and because they can sit back and have someone else do it. Sony doesn't have that option.

And Sony made their own games like GT7, Horizon, and Firewall too but it doesn't mean it's financially cheap or profitable for these companies to go and make VR modes for games.

This thing been clogging up shelves and warehouse space for months. Hopefully this clears it....

But....

I feel seen!

I am just having too much fun playing regular video games to be honest. I have played VR and it's fun but the thought of sticking a headset on my head in the evenings to relax still feels too black mirror for me. I'm not shitting on it I'm just saying it's not for me right now and like many have said it's a niche within a niche. Sony clearly gambled on this product and have hundreds of thousands of them in a warehouse that they want to get rid of now.

That's reasonable.

Is expanding the PSVR2 userbase now a deliberately timed move ahead of the Pro?

Most of the PSVR2 owners I know are planning to get the Pro if it enhances their VR experience.

This should have been $400 at launch!!!!
Meta is losing about a billion dollars every month due to their VR initiative.

With the initial PSVR2, Sony wasn't losing any money, just as the Portal and supposedly the PS5 slim disc (not at discount).

With these sales, they're possible losing money but the units might be not that high.

PS5 slim is $50 off on PS Direct for the next week, too. In case you need a PS5 to go with your PSVR2.

Holly hell %2000!? Could this be the beginning of a PS3-style comeback for the VR2?
Crazy spike.

The timing is no coincidence. Amazon had the PSVR 2 for $200 off and, according to the exclusive sample data by The Shortcut, sales of the PSVR 2 skyrocketed by 2,350% over a 24-hour period. In fact, there were more PSVR 2 sales on Sunday than in the first seven months of 2024 combined. Amazon is now sold out, but we're still seeing the VR headset in stock at Walmart.

I don't think the sell point of VR is to replace regular gaming nor to have you wear it every evenings though, at least not yet, until headsets near seamless. I see it more like feeling an urge to do a few days of VR.

But still a playthrough of Half Life Alyx, to this day, is the best gaming experience I've had in the past 2 decades. No tethers preferably, I changed from tethered to no tethers mid-way through playing Half Life Alyx back when Quest 2 had released and it was a game changer.

Crazy spike.

So we estimate 2000 units sold ? ;) jk
