Which episode was that?

From last week, I think. I use my local NPR station's app to listen to On Demand shows.

Now, GAF isn't specifically mentioned, just a subreddit focused on a "progressivd gaming forum" but obviously it's GAF. It's a very brief mention. The whole show is great though.

Ok I kind of get the free speech aspect of the racist forums before but WTF at them hosting a CP forum?

That's super duper illegal. How were they even getting away with that?

Edit: Ah I see they were anime childrens

I'm not even a redditor but I've loved how the drama almost perfectly illustrated how seeking infinite liberty is a totally misguided endeavor that invariably leads to unpleasant consequences.
It's the bitcoin crash all over again. I wish people would realise that some rules and regulations do in fact exist for a reason but if they're going to insist on making the same mistakes over and over again at least it's fun to watch.

So is this going to be a weekly thing?

Really sick of reading about this nonsense all over the front page on reddit.

I think I'm just a really naive guy. I hear about all the bad shit in reddit, but my experience there has been generally pleasant. I'm completely ignorant of all the racist hateful subs in reddit. All my subscriptions are of things that interests me and other than the occasional immaturity, people were helpful and fun.

I used to visit /r/coontown for the funny/salt when anything race based was going down. The language was a little amusing from time to time--I admit I laughed once or twice--but everyone posting on there was just the scum of the earth. I wanted to believe that it was mostly just trolling, but I think that most of the posters believe that shit in their bones.

Won't be missed.

Also there was no free speech violation in this you racist pedo fuckheads.

Agreed. I'm a libertarian and pretty much a free speech absolutist. If the government were shutting down forums like this, I would have a philosophical problem with it. But Reddit is a private company and has absolutely no responsibility to host this kind of crap. If I owned a forum, there is zero chance -- none -- that I would allow this stuff on my site. That's not a free speech issue; it's a matter of free association. I wouldn't want to associate myself or my firm with racists.

Also, I've never spent very much time on Reddit and count me among the people who are stunned to learn that forums like these even existed in the first place. That's just vile and makes me feel a little bad about humanity.

In fact, the only places I frequent are moderated pretty actively. Good moderation raises the quality of the forum in most cases. I'd rather spend my time in places like that than a cesspool.

The only positive is I imagine these people will be on a list somewhere for their hate and dodgy tastes. Can't believe they ignored stuff like that.

I hope Voat becomes popular so the annoying people stay out of reddit.

I'd almost describe reading some of the buttmad comments made in response to this banning as schadenfreude if not for the fact they remind me there are racist bigots everywhere.

Holy shit the voat coontown subreddit is insane, so many angry delusional racists

Lol i just checked it out after this comment and the salt is real. That sub is great, seeing a bunch of white supremacists get all mad and salty after recieving this L, just brought a tear of joy to my eye :')

What the actual fuck. I'm glad i've never even dipped my toes in Reddit.

What self-respecting website would ever tolerate subreddits like this. Holy shit. Why is this getting banned now instead of always and forever.

Because there's 10s of thousands of forums under the reddit umbrella, and they don't employ moderators? It's a rather small operation for what is the largest message board community in the world.

I don't think it's the freedom that's the problem, but rather the fact that they try to be profitable. Hosting every kind of content under the sun was fine for them until it became a PR problem for them and affected their ability to make money. When there's tens of millions of dollars in investments involved, the situation changes. It's not like Reddit is a new startup, the old formula was going fine for them for a decade.

Just say we're a Business and subreddits for the purpose of vile content isn't allowed anymore.

That'd cause a a lot of redditor's heads to explode as they try to sort through their pro-business rights ideals versus 'freedom of speech' ideals.

Or actually, probably not. Most have displayed that they're cool with breaking any of their ideals when it's for their own gain.

He's..... Banned? :(...

.. This is the worst news I heard all day today. Even if we couldn't agree on Beyoncé..... Omg ;__________; RIP

lol dude has spent more time being banned then he has being an active user. I'm actually starting to believe that Evilore has made his account unpermable. Don't worry he'll be back sooner or later.

Almost as funny as that guy that got deleted for being prissy over a thread.

How in the fuck was WatchNiggersDie defensible in any way shape or form? Anyone who tried to argue for that crap under the guise of free speech and anti censorship can fuck the hell right off.
