REmake HD PS4 vs. GameCube footage

I'll stick to the Gamecube version.

Horror games aren't supposed to look so clean. The 1080p pictures are doing a disgrace to the genre. WAY too polished. I like the "grainy, filthy" look of the GC version more. This is also why I love The Evil Within, they understood that a game set in such a genre does not need to be clean in order to work. On the contrary, being polished takes me away from the atmosphere.

On the other hand, P.T. is pretty photorealistic and scary. But IMO it is too scary to be enjoyable.

Surprisingly good. Wow. Gonna feel weird to not hook up the Gamecube every year to play this.

Looks really clean. They did a nice job with what they had. But it's missing that sort of haze.

Looks way too sterile and clean I think. REmake is probably in my Top 3 of Art Direction in a game. Oh well, better than nothing.

I don't know if it's because it's a video so it's smoothed out the graphics but yeah it looks really good in there.

I'll probably prefer the way it looks emulated in Dolphin still, but that's actually a lot better looking than I was expecting.

They've actually done a pretty decent job with what they had. It's a shame that all they had to work with were the existing backgrounds, but given that's the case, I say they deserve props.

Looks good enough overall but the crushed blacks still are a real shame. Look at the PS4 ver's black void in the OPs screenshots.

Did they crop the CG movies? God dammit.

I figured they'd be uncropped in the 4:3 mode? I hope they are at least, they're higher quality than the GCN ones so modding those in for the PC version wouldn't look too pretty in comparison. :x

Absolutely hate the cropping but oh well, Im glad this exists at all.

Is it just me or does anyone else prefer the grittyness of the GC version? It's got some grainy quality that for some reason I'm fond of -- honestly didn't realize it till just now.

You can have the game at the original aspect ratio to take care of that issue.

The widesceen in this is pan and scan, so there will be no stretching. Just a moving crop.

IGN appears to have captured the OAR and then put it in a widescreen ratio? Not surprising.

Also why people should never go to them for IQ comparisons or data. They have no clue what they're doing, and apparently could care less about being accurate. Remember the TRDE "comparisons"?

All that said, still looks like the images are crushed, over saturated, and sharpened. Why Capcom? Its bad enough 90% of the screen is going to be upconvered.

The shadowing's probably more accurate on PS4 here, where Jill's standing is already in shade so it doesn't make sense to cast a really strong character shadow on top. When she passes the spot of light her shadow appears.

What doesn't make sense is the darkening of the walls, the light stairs don't blend in at all.

After two generations of consoles, I'd say the GameCube version held up pretty well. What as amazing little console that was.

Still though, I don't think that comparison accurately represented the GC version. It's way more jagged and low-res looking than how it looked when I played it. The size and type(CRT or not) of television would affect the quality. It looked really great on my TV.

Looks much better and higher res than it seemed to be at first, especially the backgrounds (for the characters it was expected).

Wasn't expected the GCN version to hold up so well in comparison.

I've never played a RE game. Maybe I should track down a GCN copy for cheap instead of waiting for this?

Do we know the price of the game on PS4?

The dramatic changes on lighting and added bloom, really messes the original ambientation. Is too clean and too bright, parts that were surrounded in darkness are clearly visible now.

Also is still missing the original DOF implementation that really added a cinematic feel to the whole game.

Maybe these aren't issues for most, but I feel it really does a bleak favor to one of the most atmospheric horror games ever created.

Looks great. I'm all over this whenever it comes out. Loved it on Gamecube. Still my favorite of any Resident Evil game out there.

Game looks much better than I thought it would, will likely play in 4:3 mode as I thought it looked better in the comparison screens

Nice improvement. Is the environment still pre-rendered though? Seems like a waste of horsepower to not make things real time so you can do more with the camera (and by more, I guess I mean "anything").

That reminds me of BioShock's initial "widescreen" mode on PC. :-\

YAY so glad its widescreen now.

Thats the only thing that bugged me when they ported it to wii , they could of at least done that.

I wish they would give RE2 this treatment instead , but i love REmake regardless , buying it.

I definitely prefer new chris to old chris.

Yeah. Old Chris in the remake just looks so plain for some reason. When they said they were gonna add the BSAA costumes, I didn't think they'd include the RE5 models, too. lol

Looks nice and all, but they should really consider adding some kind of post-processing in the way of a film-grain or something. Maybe Depth of Field? (optional of course). Either that or completely overhaul the lighting. The game looks weird.
