I don't like these since the final unit will look like cheaply-made shit compar4ed to all of these. :( Also, I don't think this works well with shoulder button usability or holding like a remote. I also think you may be overestimating the screen size.

Oh man this made mii hard!! I LOVE IT!!!!

Ask EA :p

At this point in time this thread is comparable to the scene from Shrek 2 where Donkey keeps asking Shrek/Fiona if they finally reached Far Far Away.

"Hey is the NX revealed yet?"
"No"
"How about now?"
"No"
"Hoooow abouuut... now?"
"NO".
"Is it revealed now?"
"Yes!"
"What really?"
"NO SHUT UP"

Are you fucking kidding?

How fucking delusional are you people?

They are building a product that will be the corner stone of their profitability for the next decade. Let them announce it when its goddamn ready. Some of you getting upset about this is astounding me.

It makes zero difference down the line after you can finally buy it whether they showed it of 8 months before launch or 2. All that fucking matters is that they have the software and features ready and presented in a way that makes you excited when it does happen. The mass market will only start caring about the device when the hundred million dollar marketing campaign actually begins, not an IGN article about a reveal direct

People think they want a pre-release hype train at least 2 years long.

However what they really want are pleasant surprises, a not-too-long build up, and resolution/fulfillment (e.g. "launch day"). Because too long and the hype gets boring (examples: The Last Guardian, FF XV). Instead Nintendo will drop some bombs and everyone will lose their minds and have a good time during a 6 month hype machine.

IMO for the NX to be successful it at least needs to have the newest Tegra chip. The performance for the older one just isnt good enough to run anything modern well. Even in less optimized settings like dolphin it doesnt run older Wii / Gamecube games well.

Doom BFG Edition on Xbox 360 and PS3 runs at 720p60 with frame-rate drops. The same game running on the Shield Android TV micro-console, based on X1, hands in a near-flawless 1080p60 presentation. Trine 2 - another 720p30 game on Sony and Microsoft's last-gen consoles - operates at 1080p30 on Tegra X1. Typically speaking, OpenGL games port really well to Tegra X1, while DirectX ports, like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and the recently released Resident Evil 5, aren't so impressive.

Essentially anything more rigorous than an older game tends to not run as well on the older tegra format. Hopefully Nintendo can work their magic or at least find a way to stuff Parker in the NX on the cheap.
They don't have to work any magic, just get rid of Android and its shitty libraries. A TX1 used with Vulkan in a console built specifically for gaming will leave PS360 (and Wii U) in the dust. That's a fact. Just look at the specs.

If we want to believe these rumors, maybe we should remember that one of them clearly states that the NX will use a Pascal based chip. And about that other post:

I think we all need to take a step back and see what Nintendo has given us during all rumor phases... In almost 99% of what they have released we have been let down.. The specs and features are always a fraction of what is discussed.

Think of the things we are talking about.

Hybrid System 1 unit that serves as a Console / Portable
Unified Software (Console / Portable IP same system)
Tegra Code name Parker (Newest Nvidia Pascal Mobile chip)
720p On the go / 1080p when docked at home
Detachable Controllers
Region Free
Dock for charging and TV hookup seamless transition

Now lets bring it back to reality..

We are going to essentially get a Wii U tablet with the internals of the 3ds bumped up to be able to play Wii games at 720p and 3ds games at 540p. It will be region locked and will use the Tegra K1 chipset (what is currently in the older shield tablet).
If you want to use this... logic, then we are already past that phase. The console described in these rumors is certainly underwhelming specs wise compared to the Polaris based console between PS4 and Neo in power, and even the concept isn't that great for many people.

PS4 and X1 had similar time frames so it seems fine as long as they don't wait till December or January

I already said it before, it's the first week of September. Go into hysterics when it's the end of the month.

If Nintendo were going to announce an NX announcement, it would have been during that 3DS direct. I don't expect an announcement shortly after, especially during this week.

I saw this thread wasn't on the first page and I was like "YES! ITS FINALLY LOCKED! I CAN FINALLY STOP READING THE STUPID POSTS BECAUSE I HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO!!!" but no its still here. :(

Well...time to catch up. Its been about fifteen minutes since I last caught up and it looks like I have four whole new posts. MEGAFUCKINGTON!

Nope. This is too cool for Nintendo to do. They like forcing experiences on you, not giving you options.

I suspect they will do something like this, based on the rumor, just with special detachable controller halves rather than detachable buttons. If you felt Nintendo forced experiences on you with Wii or Wii U, they were a lot better about this with Wii U as time went on insofar as offering many different controllers and control schemes for gameplay in most of their games.

Here's what's actually gonna happen so y'all can get your hype levels in check and not blame Nintendo for not meeting the rumors' expectations: The NX will be 1.5x as powerful as the Wii U and It won't be using Tegra, just some upgraded PowerPC that all 3rd parties will hate.

That's why Smash for Wii U gives you 7 (seven) different controller options to choose from, right?

Btw, this is NOT what Nintendo needs at the reveal, even if they were to implement it. Getting way too complicated already.

One game. Not their entire platform... which is the point of the post.

Come back when they have a whole system dedicated to similar options.

About the power speculation:
Expecting a system close to X1 (or over PS4 like that group is expecting) is probably unrealistic and bound for disappointment.
On the other hand, going "downgraded to K1/weaker than Wii U" might be going a bit too overboard trying to prevent disappointment.
Even if it's not using pascal, I can see 1.5-2x Wii U being pretty safe. At least Wii U with a modern feature set, more RAM, and a decent CPU. Should provide some nice visuals.
As for the announcement:
Nintendo's time frame from announcement to release is still in the same ballpark as ps4 and X1 so they're not doing anything too dumb and I don't see why anyone expected anything sooner than after the Sony/Apple event especially with 6/today being a hoax.
I do hope they don't wait much longer, at least give us a date for the reveal.

So you mean the Wii U? No other console has supported multiple controllers to the extent it did. There were FPS games that had wiimote+nunchuk support. It had the GC adapter as well. It had the Wii Fit mat. I'm not sure why you keep pretending it didn't support tons of control options, but you're flat out wrong

August has come and gone and we still have yet to hear anything about the NX. We already know that about the New Microsoft console launching in November 2017; we already know about the Playstation Neo and the Playstation 4 slim --all confirmed for this year -- but we don’t even know about the NX coming out in March of next year. Ever since mentioned 17 months ago by the late Iwata there have just been speculation and fan service on what the NX actually is. Fast forward to the year late 2016 we still do not have definitive news what the system (or systems) is. I am beginning to think Nintendo believes that “Less is More” and that people will get more excited over a product if you never mention it. I however am getting quite annoyed by Nintendo and that method of selling. It would be nice once in a while that Nintendo release some information regarding their own system -- NX. It’s weird that we need to have a Dragon Quest game or some Sonic game to be reminded of the actual system when Nintendo themselves for some odd reason completely ignore it. The only games that are mentioned for NX is a Sonic game, some DQ game, and Zelda. Nintendo themselves never confirmed it besides Zelda but in my opinion just further the frustration.

If it ends up being two Wii us duck taped together, you can kiss the Nintendo home console install base and 3rd party western devs goodbye.

Since it's primarily a handheld that's to be expected, tbh. Don't think it's a bad thing, a cheaper alternative (for consumers and developers) can be a good thing. Being separated from PS4/X1 also alters expectations just like 3DS owners didn't expect ports from PS360 games

I find it funny how entitled some posters are to the point that Nintendo needs to cater to their needs.

Its their choice to reveal the NX whenever they want. Just because you whine or bitch for more information won't make Nintendo reveal it to satisfy your needs. I've said this many times, but be patient lmao. September still hasn't ended.

You know there are games like Disaster: Day of Crisis or Captain Rainbow that I really wanted to play and I hope the region lock not being locked is true. I think for many of us more "hardcore" gamers we'd love this.

It's not something that has a wide audience appeal, but it shows Nintendo is thinking of the more core audience with a move like this.

Still not sure if that will happen but even in different languages, the more games the better.

Yeah. Nintendo's feelings matter way more than those of the people buying their products. Way more.

I just feel like something's wrong if they need to wait this long. All that you need for a good reveal is a good selection of titles to show off and a good explanation of the hardware and it's capabilities. Not being ready to show 6 months before launch means at least one of three things:

 1. The hardware is extremely hard to explain, which means that marketing troubles are sure to happen.
 2. The launch titles aren't in a presentable state or there aren't enough of them, meaning that we should expect the "launch window" crap they pulled with 3DS and Wii U.
 3. They don't want to step on either their own or their competitors' toes by announcing too close to them.

Only the last one isn't necessarily a bad sign, but even then that's part of why I think January is likely (with the other part being that they're certainly going to hold a January event with launch details either way). If they don't reveal by the end of October, I think that we'll be past the point f them simply not being ready with no issues

For someone that I've seen mainly calling for this thread to be locked on more than one occasion and only having posted 15 times here...

Can't you just ignore the thread if you don't feel like contributing?

It alwayes amazes me when people call for threads to be locked. It's like let people enjoy themselves, if you're not, then just don't post in the thread. or DO post in it, but don't try to constantly call for the thread to be locked.
