What's the source for the text? Beyond a screenshot on twitter? Edit: I tried to search for the text and it's nowhere to be found.

This is the Nintendo DE tweet:

https://twitter.com/NintendoDE/status/773437191372570626

So when people said Tuesday would be the day they announced a direct, that turned out not to be true right? Quelle surprise.

I hope there is an official source, because it would be the first time I see a real commitment to March, probably since the delay, by Nintendo. Note that all the other tweets are the more nebulous "next year".
Okay, found the single source. A German news site. Nothing official.

What's funny to me is that they actually refer to the console as NX in an official way and not just "the next Nintendo platform". Could this mean they will actually use NX as the final name?

Sounds like Nintendo is screwing up marketing as usual.
Can't believe this.

Casuals barely even remember Nintendo exists, and hardcore fans are getting sicker and sicker of missing things you expect from big companies like these. Not just in terms of hardware/software, but also marketing. Who's gonna be left?

I want Nintendo to prove me wrong, but then again, this is what I say every year.

Nintendo officially confirmed NX to launch March 2017 in their financial earnings announcement on April 27 and even reconfirmed it at the 76th meeting of shareholders on June 29. There's no reason to think that it will not launch in March 2017.

Not announcing the NX reveal date is no reason for me, at least.

I don't get why people are complaining about marketing when the device hasn't even been revealed yet.

Well, that's exactly it. It's not that they haven't revealed it yet, it's that they don't even know when they'll reveal it.

Is the system so unfinished that they can't reveal it yet?

Or did marketing drop the ball so hard that they still don't even know how to market the system to consumers even though they've been working on it for so long?

None of this fills me with confidence. Either something went REALLY wrong unexpectedly or someone is very incompetent.

Apparently the NX is ahead of schedule. So basically, it's all going according to their plan.

Nintendo of Japan probably calling the shots as usual.
Nothing the other territories can do about it.

What the what? You are making tons of assumptions about something you know almost nothing about.

Sending out a competition where you can win something from them when we don't even know what it is.
Sorry, but I call that bad marketing.

You know its a 2017 device that plays Nintendo games. For the target audience (those who compete in Splatoon tournaments) that is enough.

People are emotionally invested in this thing, and when it doesn't go their way they get angry and vent their frustration.

I believe it is because this is Nintendo's last stand as a console maker. Boom or bust if you will. People who grew up with Nintendo are emotionally invested. They want to see them succeed. But Nintendo going to Nintendo.

Oh I agree, for all anyone knows, Nintendo has had an internal fixed reveal date for this thing for a year, the console is pretty much finished with no production snags, and they have a ton of dead-on marketing ready to go that, again for all we know, might come out like a deluge in an hour or two.

I'm talking about the impression it gives. Not everyone is as emotionally detached as some of you, especially in this industry. And before anyone says that videogame fanatics are ultimately a small minority of the total consumer base (which is probably correct), word of mouth propagated by said fanatics can do a lot of harm or good to a product (PS4/XO).

We know it's going to be Nintendo's newest gaming device lauinching March 2017 so I don't see how that's bad marketing.

We have known that the reveal would be coming in the fall lol.

It's not though. They have the financial security to have this and the next one fail and still go on doing it, if they want to. If somehow magically they find out a super powerful PC clone was the right way to go (it's not) they could do that even after another failure.

'Nintendo going to Nintendo' but for once they made the obviously right choice with unifying their powers and making an all-in-one platform. And I think this will succeed in a way the Wii U didn't come close to.

Not the first time I read this. Nintendoomed since the 90s. But here they are, still... :)

Monthly finals get just Splatoon merchandise as prizes. Only the final final gets an NX. And that will happen next year, so there's no guarantee about the NX reveal.

It's still weird to talk about prizes at these monthly finals and have nothing to show or advertise during downtime.

"All you streamers watching, yes, these guys can go to the grand final to win Nintendo's new console, codename NX...." *caster displays blank piece of paper on screen*

They usually have something to show, even when a product isn't out yet, but then Nintendo is Nintendo and they like doing innovative things, even if they're not good ideas. :D

The only impression the whole NX development has managed to give me is that some people are way too emotionally vested in things way beyond their fields of expertise.

It's like watching a game of soccer at the stadium where judging by the comments every single person from the public is a better soccer player than any given player on the field, regardless of the game's development.

My guess for the full NX Reveal?

Well.. if they want to launch in March...

Probably January 5th, 2017.

The reason for this?

1. This Christmas season the big money makers will be The NES Classic, Nintendo 3DS software, and a smaller revision of the Nintendo Wii U with a new smaller price to be revealed, alongside Nintendo Selects Splatoon and Super Mario Maker. Oh, and more Amiibo. I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to pack the smaller Wii U with an exclusive Demo Disc for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

2. If the NX launches with a handheld component.. that would hurt the sales of the Nintendo 3DS. If they show off the NX before or after a revision of the Wii U.. they'll hurt it's sales too.

3. I expect them to cram the shelves with budget titles for the Wii U and physical versions of many popular smaller third party titles. I also expect "game of the year" style editions of some games.. kind of like Animal Crossing: New Leaf: Welcome Amiibo or "Splatoon: Competitor Edition." Maybe even a version of Mario Kart 8 or Super Smash Bros for 3DS/Wii U that comes with all of the DLC already. On that note.. I kind of suspect an Amiibo update for Mario Kart 7 was being worked on at some point.

So, January 5th, 2017 reveal alongside an April 16th, 2017 launch date with a mall tour from the end of January to the end of May. Ad campaign really picks up in February with another Direct in March that outlines more about the launch titles for the NX.

"Marketing experts" decided the Xbox One reveal was a great idea.

"Marketing experts" probably also decided the Wii U was gonna be a superb idea, and that the marketing for the Wii U itself was bang on the money.

A wiiU mini is out of the question. Nintendo won't make new hw revisions of a buried console. The NX will be their next major console push.

Marketing experts have to sell what they're given. Marketing experts likely had zero role in xbone's initial monetisation scheme.

As for the wiiU, while it did have marketing issues, ultimately its major issues were a combination of technical and resource issues.

This entire discussion would have been quite different had the wiiU lunched with titles like MK8, Xenoblade Chronicles, Breath of the Wild, Splatoon, or heck, Mario Maker.

Dude, that's too short for a subsequent marketing cycle, especially for a product as costly as new console. Keep in mind this is not a yearly iteration of a smartphone where you can work within a couple of months to build up hype and interest, but rather a very specific entertainment device which is most likely completely different from what the competition is offering.

The sentiment with new smartphones is that you already know what it will do, basic functions stay the same. Usually people already know to which new phone they will upgrade to. You need shorter time to maintain consumer's attention and get them interested in your product. Gaming consoles are more diverse in nature, especially if they come from Nintendo. You have to start from blank explaining what the features are, which benefits will be offered, what software you can look forward too (this one is really important).

Nice and apt comparison. Just a slight edit for scientific accuracy : ]

Lack of space most likely. "Codename" is "Nombre en clave". That, and "codename" itself is a far less common thing to say in spanish in general.

Well they could have said "de nombre en clave NX". It seems that they have included it in the press release anyway... :/

But yeah, now we've got two different contests (UNIQLO and this one) giving as a prize a console which we know nothing about.

Seems we've entered the usual "I'm frustrated because [unconfirmed rumour] has not transpired how/when I was lead to believe it would" stage. I'm out until we hear an announcement of the unveiling. Which could be anytime between now and year end.

Nintendo should release reveal date Teaser trailer today to spoil Sony's party. So all the mindshare is not on Neo and people who watch the PS Meeting also know Nintendo are going to drop information in the specific date mentioned in the Teaser trailer.

I think your reasoning in this and your other post about this is sound but my concern is that if Nintendo goes for the sneak attack like that, people will flip and say Nintendo is being arrogant or petty or something it will backfire amongst large swaths of gamers online.

I think the problems with something like this are

1) It looks cheap - like some add-on to bad tablet.
2) How do you sell that idea to people (I assume 1 in 1000000 people will care)

If Nintendo even attempt to try and sell the NX as a tablet type of thing I think they're in trouble the moment they show snap-on controllers. Sell it as a game device and make it like a game device as opposed to a tablet with some try-hard add ons.

Based on the rumors, I would definitely start expecting it will be sold as a tablet slash dedicated handheld with removable controller (but not necessarily button, IMO) add-ons slash hybrid console.

All the 3DS stuff is out of the way and here comes promotion for the NX! This tells me the reveal is most definitely coming this month.

Idk how I'm going to feel they say they announce it. Its
been a long journey.

I got a feeling that the eurogamer date which was 12th September could be spot on! Just under a week later than Neo.

I am just excited to hear *splatoon* is also on NX as well. *that's official!*

I'm pretty sure it's in Nintendo's best interest to turn Splatoon into one of their flagship series. And that requires sequels (and spin-offs too, can't wait for the shitstorm there with the way people have been reacting to spin-offs lately).

So I'd say Splat2n for NX is kind of an unspoken truth. It's simply going to happen. There's no way it's not.

I had the dream guys....Sep 16th <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3

Mine was better, today, part of Sony's conference. The so called "trinity" portable.

$10 psn increase is to cover Nintendo's share of the subscription, the third part of trinity is nvidia streaming~

Dreams are fun~~~

Why? Is holding a cookie in your hand not useful? :p same concept.

I was aiming more towards the SNES controller with the rounded sides. Far better ergonomics then flat sides and sharp corners just for the sake of looking like remotes. I do not want to hold something like the original 3DS again, that gives some serious cramps.

The color fits perfectly, but to drive home the SNES controller feeling, the round edges on the bottom are missing in your design. Without them, it looks like a Nintendo PSP.

You're absolutely right about the 3DS though, it wasn't made for long play sessions...

If Nintendo is putting out such a tweet, I don't think we have to expect some news this week.
They actually say 'code-named NX'.

Late September it is.

Because that's the official line for the temp name. Like how an Xbox One is not an Xbox One in PR from MS but the "Xbox One, the all-in-one entertainment system from Microsoft."

What's funny to me is that they actually refer to the console as NX in an official way and not just "the next Nintendo platform". Could this mean they will actually use NX as the final name?

?

It's always been the NX officially. That's what Iwata announced it as way back last May or March or whatever. This is not some "Project Café" grapevine shit, this is "Revolution."

I'm not up to date. Is that like going full BurntPork?
What if... MuchoMalo is Burntpork  Man those were the days.

Btw somewhat ontopic, thinking about the NX, with all the news going towards the hybrid set-up we haven't heard much (rumours) regarding the OS right? Wonder how that's going to work. I remember Nintendo hiring guys who worked on PS's OS... I'm also wondering if Nintendo will make accomplishment a systemwide thing for NX just like achievements/trophies for Xbox/Playstation.
