I guess there wasn't much reactions over the lack of a PS Vita "Trinity"? lol

That PSP-like device.

Yep, I was thinking about that. Since a Vita successor would definitely be aimed at Japan, if we see it, it'll be at TGS. But I still doubt it exists and wonder if Sony would really announce ANOTHER piece of hardware this soon after the PS4 refresh. I could only see that happening if it's heavily connected to PS4 in some way (which, I mean, it undoubtedly would be, I suppose). But it was likely NX or some random device from a random company that very few of us will ever hear about.

Edit:

That means next week, TGS week.

I never believed, but it honestly would have made the event fantastic to me if it were there because of how surprising it would have been.

Still time in SCEJ's conference.:p

It was good when Sony showed the PlayStation family and Vita was left out.

Too soon, they're gonna ride the Super Mario Run wave at least for one more day.

I have to ask if revealing the reveal date of the NX would prevent Nintendo from riding the Super Mario Run wave. Announcing the date of the press conference would just keep Nintendo on people's minds; no real information is revealed just from the date. And then, Nintendo would be able to ride the wave from this Apple conference until the reveal (hopefully...pls) next week.

EDIT: Additionally, I do think it would be in Nintendo's best interests to get ahead of any potential "PS Trinity," even though I doubt the thing exists.

Don't know guys, to me it won't happen this week, Apple and Sony events will still have buzz around them, also they want that Mario App to receive the right attentions and coverage for the rest of the week....Starting next week to me is when a NX announcement really starts to get likely, a few days before TGS September 13/14 or right after that September 20

I'm not actually sure we're getting a date weeks prior to the reveal.
I'm starting to believe they will just announce a Direct one day in advance.

I think you guys are going to be disappointed if you think "today's the day NX reveal gets announced" and especially if you think that reveal is going to be in the next week.

Just need to forget about it for now and be patient.

The theory about 09.13. sound like my last straw for September.
A neogaf member pointed out, that was the date when the 3DS, the Wii U and the Wii were revealed.
Would make sense to keep the streak, especially with it being a day before TGS and maybe as a nod to the end of the Iwata era.

I don't expect anything today but they definitely should announce the date ASAP now that they're in the spotlight with Mario Run and Sony is basically getting bad press over their lackluster presentation and the less than stellar PS4 Pro console.

Gonna make my prediction, announcement of the NX Direct either tomorrow or monday 12, Direct scheduled for September 14

Maybe I'm just a jerk but I feel like I've been patient enough. I mean, c'mon: Announcing an official release date but still not really announcing much of anything about what it is they're going to be releasing? I mean FFS they announced the March 2017 release date back in April and since then it's been nothing but crickets. We're about six months away from the expected release and no one outside of Nintendo (and tight lipped developers) has ANY flippin' clue what to expect.

Which leads to the endless amount of rumors being thrown around.
Honestly, each iteration of these rumors make me more exasperated with Nintendo as a whole.

Yeah nah, definitely nothing today. Letting the Super Mario Run announcement sink in is not unreasonable or anything.

Next week, on the other hand....yeah they should probably get on that boat.

I mentioned this yesterday, were Nintendo really waiting for reactions to Sony's event? We now know Nintendo made an appearance at Apple's event.

Some things are not going to make sense if they decide to reveal NX next year like some people think, which sounds like 3rd parties can't put out anything at launch because they need pre-orders and time.

Implying third parties are not aware of what NX is and don't have developer kits, which I highly doubt.

I agree but I'd day we just have to deal with it. Not much we can do about it, Nintendo don't care.

Also NX announcement so close to their appearance at Apple event would be weird, like "hey guys here is our new mobile console, this will play awesome real games wherever you want not like those phones crap"

- "That PS4 Pro looked like a layer-cake"
- "No, it looked like a sandwich"

- "Let's just give Sony some time to recuperate, we can't reveal the NX when we need our last console-seller to hit it big, Paper Mario: Color Splash."

Wrong on both counts. The PS4 Pro is clearly a Big Mac.

I'm talking about pre-orders, this is after holidays if revealed. 3rd parties would have to delay launch titles if people prioritise buying Nintendo games for launch on such short notice.

Edit: This is factoring in that people are spending money on a system along with games. It's not the same thing being on short notice if you already have the system.

Wasn't there a rumor about a possible reveal date for the NX in early september? What happened with that?

There were plenty of false rumors and speculations, but the most believeable one is Eurogamer's which said NX will be revealed in September, so still 3 weeks available

Tomorrow, Nintendo will announce a Direct for Tuesday, and they won't say what the direct is for. Just you wait. They won't say if NX will be mentioned, and when asked they'll respond, "You'll just have to tune in to find out!" with a wink

Please.

Nintendo, come on, not striking while the iron is hot is hot is why Wii U failed and you knew from the start that Miyamoto would in the US now...

For the love of GOD Mucho, take a break!

Re: Nintendo at Apple's conference, what if Nintendo aren't making handhelds anymore and all their handheld games are going to smart phones and tablets?

I feel somewhat safe saying that Nintendo is more likely to drop dedicated hardware altogether than drop portable less and keep home consoles.

Would it be possible that they wanted to see the response from Sony before the wanted to reveal the announce date?

I'm not sure if Nintendo operates this way.
They clearly showed in the past that they don't care about Sony or Microsoft.

But I bet NoA is having a field day today. :)

I am really starting to doubt a pre-TGS reveal. You'd probably want some lead time when you announce that event and TGS is already starting next week.

The potential with smart phones and tablets is massive though. They'd be literally reaching everyone. Not something they can reach with their own handhelds. That Blue Ocean.

The home console can still exist for the non handheld market.

Mobile doesn't only effect handhelds though and Nintendo home consoles are a nonfactor compared to their handhelds. Nintendo is going to reach their consumers anyway.

It only makes sense from a "I'm a western hardcore gamer who cares about home consoles but not handhelds".

Haha. I'm only saying this in reaction to what I've seen today from Nintendo's surprise and well received appearance at Apple's conference, Pokemon Go on smart phones, and Miitomo before that and how all that exploded their shares.

Right but if they're dropping handheld for mobile they might as well drop home consoles as well, especially if their worry is hitting the largest amount of consumers possible.

What, you guys thought being able to eat apples in Breath of the Wild was a COINCIDENCE?

NX will be a set of two detachable MFI controllers for the iPhone 7 that also output the iPhone 7's picture to the TV via HDMI, and includes Tegra GPU technology that works in tandem with the iPhone's CPU. Games can be purchased as NX Cartridges (which fit into the NX) or via the App Store.

An optional dock accessory will charge your iPhone while also outputting video via HDMI. It'll have room for the iPhone alone and also the NX, charging the NX's battery as well. If you dock the NX while the iPhone 7 is attached to it, both will charge too.

"Has Nintendo finally gone third party? NintenDOOMed!"

No. Apple and Nintendo are merging into a single entity, making the NX a Nintendo first party gaming machine.

Appletendo NX. Lock it in.

Just in case someone is an occasional lurker and didn't spot the subtle satire, no I'm not an insider, yes this is a joke

Nintendo's next OS is going to be called Banana, as inspiration from Apple and for Iwata's love of Banana jokes.
