The phrase highlighted in the NYT article only states that the addendum was top secret. The investigation was done by a private citizen and private company. The header on said private company/ private investigator's memo states "confidential/sensitive source" which means exactly what it says; that they received this info from a confidential and sensitive source. What it doesn't is that the US government, which had nothing to do with the memo or investigation, somehow made it confidential or top secret.

It is certainly worth giving some people the benefit of the doubt. There are other kinds of people, well known around these parts that don't deserve any benefit of the doubt. That 4chan rumor isn't them getting played, it is actively them spreading disinformation.

Regardless, it's being used as a smoking gun for people trying to discredit these leaks, and people are posting it over and over despite it being debunked more than a full day ago. It's being used to spread misinformation and muddy the waters.

Don't get me wrong, he can certainly shake things up, but unless he is getting rid of Comey the FBI will continue to chug on as it has been. This agencies are not just one people and one agency, even if this is a Trump appointed staff member, they will either let the investigation continue or try to stall it or shut it down, if he does the latter once he is replaced and if something is found then he could be charged for obstruction. I don't doubt effort is going in, but I don't doubt effort was going in previously. Not many people like Trump and can you imagine being in intelligence and having that dossier dumped on you last October/November?

The issue remains it's not a case of trying hard and putting in the effort. If no evidence exists feelings don't matter. You can't wish someone into prison.
