Resident Evil 3 |OT| Shooting for the S.T.A.R.S.

A 4 hour experience at a high price!

I get annoyed by posts like these. You don't like or want the game. A short experience is to much for you. Whatever, that is your prerogative and choice with how you spend your money. Clearly the value isn't there for you. Move on and/or wait for a sale and let those willing to buy and enjoy these game (e.g. myself who bought the CE) and express enjoyment about it then complaining.

Just beat the game. I really enjoyed it! In preparation for it, I replayed RE2 Remake a few times after a year off from that game, and this new game acts as an excellent companion to it. The vibes of the two games are pretty different, with RE2R having more emphasis on the Horror, with the action as a side-piece, whereas its the opposite in RE3R. So instead of feeling like a horror game, it feels more like a thriller. I think that Boss battles were far superior in this one, and the pacing was breakneck and consistently entertaining. I definitely look forward to replaying it!

I can understand why some fans of the original are disappointed with this, since it's not really a remake, but rather its own completely original game. The Resistance is also not the same kind of game mode as Mercenaries (and its jank), so if you're someone that's only interested in single player, this doesn't offer nearly as much value as what a $60 game ought to provide. However, as a big fan of 7 and 2 Remake, I am really glad we got this so soon after those two, and look forward to getting the platinum trophy eventually. If you're on the fence about getting it, you should probably wait for a price drop, but only because the game is short; the quality is excellent, in my opinion.

Took me about 6 and a half hours. Enjoyed every moment of it. Kinda interested in replaying the original again to see how different it is. I'll probably double dip on PC as well once they take out the denuvo.

Just beat the game. I won't complain that it isn't faithful to the original. I actually enjoyed the fact it was so different. I LOVED the fact that it was so short. The game pushed me from A to B at a blistering pace which I appreciated as I was never bored.

The fact this has the same controls as Resi2 and it is more action focused really resonated with me. Resi3 was full of action anyway.

Allow me to weigh in my opinion of Nemesis. Had Mr X not been implemented the way he was in REmake2 I would have been disappointed in Nemesis. However, I'm glad I didn't have to ensure the same stalker mechanic for 2 games. I enjoyed it in REmake2, but once again I'm happy I'm doing something differemt. In this game.

That clocktower fight is ridiculous. It drains all your ammo, and there is seemingly little rhyme or reason to the damage dealt.

I shot a mine round halfway up the tower, then shot another mine round at the dipshit perched atop it. That knocked him off, then as he fell, he triggered the other mine round, and Jill said some zingy one-liner. Then I pumped 6 FUCKING SHOTGUN ROUNDS INTO HIS FACE.

And still the fight proceeded for 5 more solid minutes. FUCKING LAME.

They could do that in pretty much every other RE game.
On Caution yeah, which is why you had to be careful.

RE3R is easily the most annoying RE game since RE6. I think I hate it more than I enjoy it.
S+ rank doesn't exist, they know this game has some bad design choices in it which is why they let you run wild with infinite weapons especially for the more difficult ranks. Can't believe the amount of random shit you can die to in this game though. lmao.

I did an assisted run for the heal once trophy (Which is when the Deimos tentacle rapes you btw) and got an S on it. It's a nice side piece to RE2, in some ways RE2 is better but I'm holding out Capcom will give us something down the line... Please. 👀

I am shocked! After 4 hours I finished my first playthrough and I am shocked! The game was/is so bad I can’t hardly believe it.

This isn’t a remake of a great game, they ruined the game with this re-imagination.

RE2 Remake was great, Capcom died once again for me.

Just finished the game for the first time, playing on Hardcore. 11 and a half hours total, 6 and a half of gameplay.

Honestly, I don't get the backlash: this is the best Resident Evil game I've ever played. It's got tension, horror, combat, a few good puzzles, excellent boss fights, Nemesis is great, pretty much all of the original's main beats made their way into the remake one way or another... Sure, we didn't get to enter the Clock Tower and the Park is missing. But the package is still VERY strong...

It's the best gameplay the series' ever had, enemies are very tightly designed around the new dodge mechanic. Good variation with the parasites and other surprises the campaign holds. Revelations 1 had the best Hunters in the series, in my opinion, but this definitely takes the cake from it. Those fuckers are INTENSE. They had me using everything I had, and I'm the hoarder type. Wasn't taking any chances around them and I wouldn't risk facing 2 at a time as Carlos.

The hospital is GOAT. Raccoon streets come in as a close second. NEST 2 is excellent as well, much better than 2's original NEST, but gets 3rd place because the other scenarios are way too strong.

Loved what they did with the story too, they're integrating plot points from other spin-off titles into the game while expanding previously established lore.

It's a piece of crap. Poorly balanced, linear as linear can be, and just flat-out lame.

What a letdown. I am about an hour away from beating it. Not sure if I care to.

Hunters are insta-killed with a hand grenade. And if two are even somewhat close together, it will take both of them down.

Seems like it should have been been a half price expandalone of 2 Remake, like New Order/Old Blood. Trying to add value to it with that lame mp thing doesn't work.

Finished the game yesterday and I absolutely love what Capcom (or rather new team with one of the ex Platinum devs at the helm) did with it, amazing game all around if a bit easy in comparison to RE2. I loved Jill a lot more than Clair in RE2 and I really like what they did with her in terms of writing and acting, really cool stuff, and her rivalry with Nemesis over the course of the game along with the boss fight at the end is just the icing on the cake. I also liked how RE3 complements RE2 and it is so cool to see all the events and characters that were around before Leon and Clair showed up in RE2, to see what happened to them etc. Also, action and chase scenes are amazing too and extremely well directed, love them so much. Honestly, this is my GOTY so far this year. Also, fuck PC Gamer and Gamespot for 58 and 6 cuz these effin' scores are just 1000% not fair.

Took me almost 10 hours on normal difficulty to beat the game.

Will I recommend buying the game for $60? Probably not, but $40-45 on sale for sure.

Love love loved it. But...

MR X is way more threatening than Nemesis.

The Demo was a little bit of a false impression as I only remember him stalking you like that once. The rest was typical scripted boss type battles.

RE3 was my least played game mostly because the timing when it came out coming up on PS2. I’ll have to swing by and give it a shot again.

For sure giving this a second play thru. I enjoy it just as much as 2. Completed in 5.5 hours.

Another thought, this game has the most save rooms of any RE game ever. There was this one time I was in a save room. Exited to a scripted event that was non playable, landed right into another save room. Plus auto save in RE games is kinda weird.

Finished REmake3 a little while ago in just under 10 hours of total play time on Assisted difficulty. Manually saved 27 times and died 5 times. Really enjoyed the game a lot. A great 8.5/10 for me personally. Story, characters, music, sound and voice acting were all good while the visuals and gameplay was superb. If I would have played on Standard difficulty, my play time would have probably been closer to 15 hours since I know that I would have died more often.

RE this generation -
REmake2 (9.0/10) > REmake3 (8.5/10) > RE VII (8.0/10) > RE Revelation 2 (6.5/10)

Overall survival horror games that I completed this generation -
REmake2 > The Evil Within/The Evil Within 2 (both tied at 8.5/10 and could go either way for me) > REmake3 > RE VII > RER 2

I agree with that, for 30 dollars I'd say this is a fantastic single player, they bundled something unwanted to something wanted to justify the price,
regardless I really liked the main game but it wasn't a remake of 3, outside of the characters and locations with the same names, nothing makes it resident evil 3
I'm sure they'll drop the price or unbundle it from resistance soon enough
, plus the game's world was tiny and the game too condensed,

I just beat it and I really enjoyed it honestly. Don't really understand the negative opinions, but to each their own. It wasn't the exact same game, but remakes are generally not always 1:1 through and through. I mean, look at the RE2 remake.

I will say I think it's bizarre that they just straight up removed other parts of the game. Also, just the fact that spiders and crows just don't exist, lol. But whatever, I suppose. Not that big of a deal IMO.

All in all, fun experience, and will probably play through again. Haven't touched Resistance, but I guess I should. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Also wanted to add I still can't believe this is $60. I feel it shouldn't definitely be lower.

I noticed a damage scale difference between Jill and Carlos. Enemies like the hunters were easier with Jill than with Carlos( though most of his could be taken out with grenades Easily). Some Zombies were straight up harder with Carlos and he dealt with more swarms. Hunters taking a couple rounds of the mag was a bit strange at times too.

Probably because by the time you get Carlos, you have modified Jill's handgun at least twice, thus Carlos' gun is a far worse weapon than Jill's.

Reading a review I just realised that in the original the dodge mechanic was only made to help you fight Nemesis while in the REmake it can be let you roll past most ordinary enemies. I think this will be a talking point that arises in years to come because of the effect it has on how you play the game, in a "Dodge is awesome"/"Game's shit, just dodge everything" divide. :pie_thinking:

People should complain, show that its completely unacceptable to release a 5 hour game at full price retail. No one is saying every game should be a 100 hour experience... but 5 hours or less in most cases is awful. It was clearly meant to be included as part of the RE2 package.

I see people are saying replayability is high but isnt every Resident Evil? What makes the replayability so high here other than the fact you can see everything in such a short time?

Unless you knew the length going in, people have ever right to complain about it IMO. They ruined all the goodwill they built recently, marketing essentially DLC as a full game to their fanbase. Months of excitement for this....

Each to their own, but as a big fan of the series (I own nearly all of them) its completely understandable fans are upset and expressing it in the official thread. I just hope Capcom is taking this feedback on board, and underhand tactics like this arnt rewarded with high sales.

Agreed. That was much harder than the other game.

I never used the handguns on the hunters so I can’t make that comparison. Using Carlos Automatic weapon it felt like I went through 3 mags to take down a hunter and risked insta death multiple times. Jill I could take him down with 2-3 shotgun blasts. Then at the point at the end of the game they felt like butter, felt like some of them were tougher than others.

That one fight where
you're fighting him for the 2nd to last time as Carlos is telling you which numbered pillar he’s behind. I ran out of ammo and won the fight with my combat knife.

I just kept hammering explosive rounds, fire rounds, shotgun, and then pistol. I ran out of ammo and he was still alive

I wonder if a knife-only run is possible?

is there any good FPS mod yet? I feel the FPV camera might work better here, less glitchy than in the 2Remake mod, given they implemented it themselves for the intro section and it didn't get weird when opening the doors and shit. Although the dodge and enemy grabs might make it tricky.

Hell if I know. I get wasted anytime I try to take out a zombie with my knife.

I think I'm going to restart. I entered the hospital with just 18 handgun bullets and 50 rifle rounds and I have no way of fighting the zombies with just that - they completely overwhelm me. I decided to restart my playthrough and try to be a little more conservative with my ammo - especially when playing as Carlos.

Those fuckers zig-zag like crazy - it's so tense as they approach while I barely manage a couple of headshots.

I love this game.

I also run out of grenade launcher ammo and I had like 12 rounds almost of each type. Ended up finishing Nemesis with a few pistol shots. As for knife only run.... maybe on Baby Ass Baby mode and with a bunch of buffs you can buy in Shop?

S ranked Inferno just a couple of hours ago. It was an intense experience from beginning to end. No autosaves and being limited to 5 manual saves for the S meant I actually had to think about where I should save to pace myself and minimize risk. Enemy aggression and speed is dialed to 11. Nemesis sprints comically fast. Zombie lunge distances have increased to the point that if you perfect dodge at a bad angle, you'll get grabbed by their second lunge before you can dodge again. I was saving the big guns and grenades for when it mattered the most. Perfect dodge is truly necessary here, to save time and resources and just to survive.

Definitely take advantage of the shop upgrades here, because it feels like it was designed for it. Also, make sure to reserve one save for the final boss. If you've gone through Nightmare, you'd understand why.

Fighting my way through the hospital, trying to survive.

Anyone who says this game is action horror and not survival horror is, in my humble opinion, either insane or never found RE2make stressful to begin with.

I am now honestly a lot more stressed when playing this than I was playing RE2make. The hunters literally made me want to avoid their areas like crazy, reminding me the good old days of REmake on the Gamecube.

This game is insanely good. I think I like it more than RE2make.

I think it's a lot harder than RE2make, as well. I never had ammo conservation problems in RE2make, while here with Carlos, I am struggling to conserve ammo and stay alive.

I was scrolling through my ps4 library and realized that I own RE6, yet have never played it. Probably picked it up for 10 bucks during a sale and never even installed it.
It seems to have a pretty negative reputation, but I'm gonna try it out today.

Also beat it on Hardcore first playthrough, also took 11 hours lol I enjoyed it a lot. They put a lot into this title. I'm ok with them not doing the whole clock tower thing tbh

New Yorks Finest New Yorks Finest I recommend playing it on hardcore. It can get pretty hard, but for me its not that much harder then the originals. I'd say its even a bit easier seeing how they have unlimited saves.

Finished my first playthrough on Standard with a clear time of 6:59, total play time of 8:34. Loved it, almost every single minute. It may be because it's new, but I think I prefer this to REmake2. The combat changes really bring it up a level (and the fact that I didn't like the sewers section of 2). The Hospital was one of the best RE locations, the oppressive atmosphere, the blood, the enemies in this part were fantastic.

Yes, it's too short, yes I'd have loved the clock tower and park, but the game isn't lacking because of their omission, it's just you can see how great those areas would've been in this engine. The boss fights were great, weapon feedback, zombie damage, all an improvement over 2. The handgun actually feels like it does some damage in this.

So, on to hardcore, then nightmare, then inferno. The way the game is set it up seems as if you are supposed to be buying stuff in the shop to deal with nightmare and inferno. I think I'll hold off for the hardcore playthrough and save points for nightmare. I'm liking the idea of that weapon that instakills enemies if you get their crit spot.

There hasn't been a single RE game in which I wasn't armed to the teeth by the second half of the game. I remember having a playthrough of Original RE2 and had like, 255 handgun bullets in the end?

There are numerous segments in RE3make (especially the Carlos ones) where I didn't know how the course to proceed. Though granted, if you make careful choices about which rooms to explore last, you can end up with more ammo for numerous encounters. I'm almost done with my playthrough, but the Carlos segment in the hospital will remain as one of the best RE experiences I've ever had.

My point is, on almost ALL Resident Evil games, its scary and tense at first as you learn the terrain and enemy behaviors, then gets progressively less tense as you grow more confident in your weaponry and your experience with the game's bestiary. The latest RE games did a good job of subverting this, either by adding Mr. X in RE2make halfway through, or giving you segments with less ammo in RE3make.

Your mileage may vary, but for me, RE3make is one of the best RE experiences I've ever had so far.

Pretty sure I'll be beating it at the end of the day.

Fair enough though personally I feel RE2remake is leagues above Re3remake in every department.
Nemesis felt like a showpiece and all his encounters felt scripted. No tension at all.

Mr X on the other hand created tension simply by walking in the rcpd whilst you had to solve puzzles. Far better experience.

If I have a negative about RE3make, is the fact that halfway through, Nemesis becomes an afterthought, rather than the main focus of the game. RE3make does a good job of portraying Nemesis as a constant stalker (albeit a scripted one) in the first half of the game, but once you enter the sewers he devolves into a couple of (amazing nonetheless) boss encounters. Seriously, once you hit the sewers, I found no difference in Nemesis in terms of presence from William Birkin in RE2make.

And now it makes sense why they didn't bother to add the 'Nemesis' in the title - he just isn't the focus of the game in this one.

Guys, people complain about the game being short and brief, but what is the actual deviation between clear time and play time?
Especially during first run....
I don't expect these two to be equal, though....

DONE! Didn't think it was going to pull me in this hard, I feel like coming back to RE2R now as I never finished that one on "Hardcore"...

CUbgoLC.jpg

So here are some thoughts after a weekend of nothing but killing Zombies:

Attack boost coins completely trivialize the game. I bought then after failing over 10 times running out of ammo at the Hospital horde defense on my 2nd playthrough on "Hardcore".
From this point on I was just blasting through all the way until the end of "Nightmare", it was tons of fun cause it made the weapons feel really powerful but any sense of danger was gone.

However, the biggest surprise came at the very end of "Nightmare" where the final battle with Nemesis turns from a setpiece joke to a RE take on the Bed Of Chaos.
Which is not necessarily a good thing. Basically - he gets a set of new moves, one of which is an overhead slam combo that insta-kills you 9/10 times. You perfect dodge the first slam - if you miss the second it stun-locks you and the third one kills you. Not really telegraphed well, some instantaneous, some delayed so if you dodge too fast - it's over. I think it might be related to how many (shitloads more and harder to hit) weak points he still has as there seems to be a chance of surviving 2 blows at the end of each phase when you wear him down, if you get hit at the beginning - you're dead.
I died almost 30 times trying to beat it, the difficulty spike is just ridiculous and getting two resistance coins in despair didn't help shit.
The fight is very RNG and if he spams his hard to dodge attacks you're basically screwed.

Having earned the infinite rocket launcher afterward - the INFERNO mode was basically a speedrun (01:12), where he went down pretty fast due to the AOE the launcher has and how that breaks multiple weak points at once.

All that aside, the game is amazing and I love it as much as I did RE2R. Not without some flaws but I feel it makes up for the length of the campaign with how the difficulty modes and cheat shop upgrades can give it new twists

Non-humanoid Nemmy effectively isn't Nemmy is the problem as far as I can see. So you end up with only one real Nemesis boss fight in the entire game. I have always stated the sameness of Nemesis encounters in the original to be a very negative aspect, but at least he transformer and his abilities/functions changed somewhat? He felt like he grew more and more while your arsenal increased. Rose tints of course. But dog Nemmy isn't Nemmy, we just call it that, and the fight seems kind of poor, especially having it happen twice.

Jill is so fucking gorgeous in this game. When Carlos says he won't die on her and she looks back and says ok.

- Lack of tension. This is also caused by difficulty, here hardcore is like a standard in 2. Oh you just evaded Nemesis? Here's a checkpoint for you, buddy. Also save as much as you need, we got no ink ribbons this time. Nemesis is too scripted and does not provide the tension as Mr.X did, he was actually patrolling RCPD and got in your way while you were trying to solve the puzzle/find required item. That and limited saving/no checkpoints created needed tension, at least on your first playthrough, nothing like that here.
I haven't played this, but it's weird to me hearing they made Nemesis scripted. I figured Mr.X was just an experiment in how to do Nemesis...
