Resident Evil 6 has gone gold

It's not a problem. Same as RE4 and 5, specific sound effects telegraph unseen enemy proximity. If you're deaf, yeah, it's a problem. The zoomed aim doesn't completely obliterate your view, it simply takes up real estate that it doesn't need to.

I disagree completely. It's a problem for the reasons I listed with regard to weapons based enemies who you can't always factor for when you're busying dealing with what's in front of you and the broken camera.

This guy is still going? Jesus christ...

Probably works on the dev team/is a PR guy damage controlling.

Hell, might be a viral marketer.

Oct 2 can not come soon enough! Very excited for this game. Very. Excited. Seriously.

However, I did not realize that the camera position was such a big deal. I'm not knocking anyone down for their opinions, never, but for myself, i don't see the problem. Before or after.

Hard time seeing down the hall to left because Chris' big ass muscles to close to your face? Be aware of your surroundings. Release L1, look around quick, back to shooting. Done.

I think games today have to much media attention so that we as gamers have no choice but to offer all of our expert opinions on how games should be made. ( i'm guilty of this too! ) We watch countless videos on many different gameplay aspects, level designs, and character development, so much that, by the time the game is released, we were given the chance to to complain that everything we saw was not up to par. Instead of adjusting to the game, we expect the game to adjust to us.

We expect too much from our favorite series, and honestly, these days it does not take too much for us to say "This game sucks cause the camera blows!!" ( Only using this as an example to stay on topic )

I remember back in the day buying Intellevision/NES games. We had a little paragraph in a mag telling us about a game. If we were lucky to have buy the mag in the first place. Finding out what games came out meant going to the store and looking at the box. You won some, and you lost some. But those games still got played and most turned out to be pretty fun when you invited your friends over anyways so it wasn't that much of a loss. We played the games the way they were made and we adjusted to THEM. And still enjoyed them, even if only a little. I think this is how games should be released in the future:

CAPCOM Press conference Aug 26: RE7 will be released Dec 2014!!!

Complete Silence for 2 years....

Dec 2014: RE7 hits stores. No one complains, turns out to be pretty good.

Sorry to turn this into a rant, but i was talking to a friend the other day about this, and thought i might share. Anyways...Yay RE6!!! Looks sweet!

This guy is still going? Jesus christ...

Haha seriously, he's just reaching for people to debate with. My favorite part of this circus show is this:

Look to me, this is a 'simple change' on the order of someone demanding 'I think it is silly that pawns can only move forwards - they should be able to move in all directions!' the first time they play chess.

LOL. It is absolutely nothing like that. It's like forcing you to play chess by shoving your face into the board whereby you can only see a quarter of the pieces, and you asking if they could kindly remove their boot from the back of your head so you can actually see the entire playing field.

Anyway for my own sanity I'm going to ignore this guy. So that RE6 is going to be great huh?

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. If we still did shit the way we did it "back in the day" we'd still be playing games on cartridges and there would be no save spots until you finish the game. Progress is good, and it happens for a reason. Developing games in a bubble by ignoring your consumers is exactly how you make shitty games and get people to stop buying your games.

If anything I'm glad Capcom is listening to its fans and adjusting accordingly. Maybe they will eventually relent and give us the remake of RE2 we have been pestering them about.

So that RE6 is going to be great huh?

If they fix the camera. ;)

Seriously, I expect it will be good, if only for the spectacle. I jusy hope they have a customizable camera. I can play it as is, but it's a chore considering how fast paced both Chris' and Jake's campaign appear to be based on the demo.

It's too much to hope for them removing the context sensitive controls for climbing over knee high walls, etc and tightening the cover mechanic but that's something they'll hopefully work on for RE7.

Cool. After the 360 demo, I was let down to the point that I have relegated RE 6 to rental status. I have no doubt that I can complete it's single player and outside of multi-player unlock pretty much everything there is to unlock and experience everything there is to experience in a weekend. Here's hoping it's a fun game.

RE5 was the most massive flip flop I've ever had in gaming. I mean I hated that shit first time I played it. Then I downloaded the Gold version and still hated it. Deleted it almost immediately (and hey getting rid of a huge 12-14 GB file you downloaded from slow-ass PSN is no small feat) with enthusiasm.

Then for some reason I DL'd it again and it's become one of my favorite games this gen. I play it every day. If not for the versus, I would probably platinum it. Something I rarely do.

I'm really stoked for RE6... October is a whole-month holiday (halloween!!!!) and we get RE6 and the next season of Walking Dead... I can't wait!

I'm actually going to preorder RE6, another thing I rarely do. Worries about a dumb AI partner were put to rest after watching some videos. Hopefully we get a demo on PS3 soon.

And still hoping Jill will be a playable character in some capacity... DLC or whatever... give her a campaign!

I've never had this problem in RE4/5/6, because they're extremely well-designed. If I take damage, it's my fault. If you take damage and don't know why, you simply need to be more alert, or get better.

dumb AI partner

It might interest you to know that RE5 has a 'partner loyalty' metagame to it. If you treat your partner well by saving them quickly, giving them stuff they ask for, thanking them, congratulating them on bullseyes etc, they'll respond better in terms of accuracy, avoiding enemies, saving you quickly etc. Likewise, if you treat them like crap by yelling at them to hurry, letting them die and so forth, they'll behave like jerks. it's not a very documented feature, but it is there. RE6 has it too.

Absolutely no chance.

Now see, you group RE4/5/6 together, but 4 and 5 had the pulled back camera whereas 6's demo had the pushed in camera. You can't use RE4/5 to justify why you like the camera in the RE6 demo.

Haha. That's sad. Please shoot me if I ever got that worked up about the camera in a video game.

I'm not saying I like the RE6 demo camera, I'm saying I don't particularly mind it, yet think it would be better with 4/5's camera.

So what do I have to do to keep Chris from humping Sheva's leg every two steps? lol.

People complain about the close RE6 camera obscuring a third of the screen... they need to try searching for treasures in RE5 and have chris constantly block your view every couple of seconds. Now that is annoying.

Also... you cannot actually give your AI dipshit any words of encouragement or thanks, as far as I can tell, it's just "cover" or "attack".

They are pretty much a mule you have to babysit. They will burn through all the ammo you give them without fail... they have no concept of firing a disabling shot to set up melee. They are dumb as shit, always... give them a sniper rifle, you'd think they'd take a shot at the ranged enemies? Especially those firing rounds at us from a grenade turret? NOPE! They fire the sniper rifle at the weak enemies with pitchforks and shovels! Awesome. They never use grenades, ever. They won't eat a white egg even if they're hold 5 and half dead... they are only good for holding weapons you aren't using, or ammo you aren't using, but not both! Because they will use them up! I loved a few days ago when Chis spent my entire Magnum clip firing at a wall (enemy was on the other side)! Thanks bro.

Seriously, the AI partner in RE5 is a retard. No getting around that. And it honestly wouldn't even bother me if they'd just stay out of my way... but they don't.

I still love the game though.

From what I see in RE6, the partner stays behind and doesn't get all up into your shit... that's perfect. Just don't bother me and we'll get along wonderfully.

You know when Sheva says "Nice shot!" after you get pop a Majini head? You can do the same after she lands one by hitting circle/B quickly.

Trust me, treat her right, and you'll both be tight.

Agree with ^^^. I used my partner as a healer basically, and had some fun once i unlocked unlimited ammo that way they wouldn't waste all my bullets. I'm hoping that the PS3 version of RE 6 isn't terrible so i can play online on psn, otherwise i'll just rent the 360 version and be lonely.

I never expected anything from my AI partner, so when she did anything useful it was always a pleasant surprise.

Sounds like I'm talking about a girlfriend lol

I think I'm going to do something interesting with this game and play each campaign with a different co-op partner...

this game is gonna be so much fun!

So are most people here getting the game for PS3 or 360? I have RE5 on PS3 but decided to get RE6 on 360 because I figured it would be the better version (lead platform and all that).

This totally sucks we have to wait over a month! ugh

On the bright side, we're still getting it over a month earlier. I will play the hell out of this game, just like I did with 4 and 5. I honestly didn't mind 5 too much, just hated the set pieces. The set pieces here look amazing. I just hope each campaign is at least 3/4ths of RE4/5's campaign the first time.

We should set up a co-op thread...

I was thinking of setting this up in the OT itself and creating a separate thread for co-op in community.

Is that allowed? Or does a thread have to be "promoted" to community after a certain amount of time / posts?

Good question, I don't know. I know most OTs set up a Google doc with lists of PSN/XBL IDs for people to use. I don't know if a separate RE6 co-op thread is necessary if we can just do it in the OT? I feel like it would split up discussion of the game into two threads, thus diluting the usefulness of the OT.

Edit: Man, the advertising tech on GAF is hilarious. I've posted in this thread a lot over the past two days and now all of a sudden I'm getting tons of ads telling me to pre-order RE6.

You can do it however you like. There aren't any official forum restrictions other than the normal rules regarding timing of the thread creation. If you make the co-op thread in gaming and it gets a ton of attention, the mods will eventually move it over to community at a time they feel appropriate. This would get the thread the most exposure.

Or you could create the co-op thread in community and add a section in the RE6:OT about the co-op, and link to the community thread.

Either way is fine... but I think starting the thread in gaming would get it the most exposure.

What I wouldn't want is for the RE6:OT to try and incorporate the co-op discussion... I personally think co-op should have its own thread.

I'd also recommend setting up a google doc so we can have a list of who's playing and on what. We did this for Battlefield and it worked pretty well...

So, errr, do you mean co-op discussion as in setting up matches together or co-op discussion as in the ALL ETERNAL "co-op ruined Resident Evil" discussion?

I'm a bit confused

I think we should have a separate thread just for co-op matchmaking. I'll be looking specifically for people I can play the entire game with, or at least an entire campaign, and I'll want them to be the best co-op partner I can get, so I think a separate thread would facilitate that kind of discussion not getting lost as opposed to it being in the OT.

I think co-op in RE should be more of an intimate thing, not just grabbing some guy's name from a list and playing.

That's just me, though, however it ends up being done I'm sure will work out.

You are very right.

These suggestions have been noted and will probably be incorporated assuming I am allowed to

(I plan for a main OT, co-op OT and spoiler OT)

People can talk about whatever they want in the OT... I guess I worded that wrong.

I think there should be a thread for coordinating co-op, separate from the OT... but mentioned/linked to in the OT.

Whether that co-op thread is in gaming or community, it's up to the person making the OT, but I think it would get the most attention if created in gaming.

What system? I feel the same way... I also like to have someone who is also new to the campaign if I'm going through for the first time. Playing with vets is fun, but sometimes they remove the surprise/challenge. They'll give you a ton of ammo... or tell you what's coming... get too annoyed if you're not blazing through the level.

Haha I agree. I was playing RE5 a while back and I was going for a serious Veteran run. I picked some dude online and he joined my game. So there I am with my Sheva planning to lay down the law, when a Chris wearing his Safari outfit pops in with a shotgun. He then proceeds to race through the level stealing all the items and getting into fights by himself. Totally killed my immersion lol.

Then again, I was playing Mercenaries with some dude from Japan. He was playing as Wesker and he absolutely murdered everyone in the level. I had a hell of a time just keeping up with him.

Dammit. Is no one here getting the 360 version?

PS3 for me. And yeah, I agree, first play through definitely has to be with someone who is also playing for the first time

I'm a little bit weird - I think first play HAS to be SOLO for some reason.

I've run this tradition for RE5 and hopefully will continue it into RE6.

I do, however, act like it's my first play when I play with others who might not have finished - I also don't elude to future events if the person I'm playing with doesn't.

:D

When the PS3 version turns out to be shit, ya'll be sorry!

Only have PS3 to play it here so the face-off means nothing to me i guess.
But i don't know about rewarding Capcom with full price purchase for an inferior version if that turns out to be the case again.
Well have to wait for the demo, that is if they actually release it since it'll be so close to the release date.

I can see why someone might think that.

First play through is for taking it slow, looking for all the treasures/emblems trying to get as many as possible but not worrying if you miss any and NOT using a guide. Also watching every cutscene, AND reading the files you find laying around.

If the person you're playing with just wants to rush through it, wants to skip cutscenes, gets impatient when you sit around reading stuff that you find, talks over cutscenes and pesters you to skip them... I could see the first playthrough end up being terrible

Which is why it is absolutely necessary those of us doing co-op only (I only ever played RE5 solo when I needed that trophy that had to do with the AI, and I will be doing the same with RE6) find ourselves a perfect partner that will not hamper our first playthrough experience, but rather will enhance it.

We can be friends. haha

Yeah my first playthrough is always solo for the same reasons. I feel bad sitting around reading files, or thinking about what items to use and what to drop, or exploring the environment looking at the shiny graphics, if there is a live human being on the other side waiting for me to move on to the next area.

Who knows how I'll play RE6 though, maybe it would be fun to go through the game blind with another person who hasn't seen the story yet and is as surprised/shocked as me at some of the set pieces. Trying to survive some of the battles with another person might be fun.

With the right partner... if everyone understands the ground rules and what the other is looking to get out of the experience, and if they have similar expectations, then co-op is amazing.

But the reality is that co-op is usually not amazing. You either have to get really lucky, know someone, or create a co-op thread!

Sounds good. :)

You are on the PS3 as well, then?

Maybe we could play some RE5 mercs in anticipation or something =P

My PSN ID is the same as my GAF username.

I'll send you a FR... my PSN name is the same as well. I haven't even gotten into mercs yet, still wrapping up story stuff. Upgrading the last couple weapons and going through on the different difficulties. Just completed the DLC's yesterday and they were pretty fun (but very short), need to do them on Professional now.

I'll probably get into mercs soon though.

edit: just noticed, is your username an RE4/5 reference, or is that just coincidence?

I never really got into Mercs; the timer always intimidated me. I got really flustered every time I fucked up and lost a few seconds lol.

can anyone remember the given original date given for the ps3 demo of resi evil? threads to long to look back over everything

thanks
