I think all the actual scares etc will be kept for the real thing, no point spoiling that for a shitty demo showing off mechanics and engine.

I watched two different streams & the only "mechanics" I really saw in play was an inventory menu.

After seeing that, I hope Capcom suddenly developed a penchant for Kojima mindgames/S-E trolling, because it was a pretty underwhelming demo.

According to this, since around RE6 was released.
Considering the development of previous RE titles, I would not be surprised if RE7 saw a reboot of its development at one point. Especially the final game seems so heavily inspired by PT and that's only 2 years old.

Here's my overall impressions:

*Performance is choppy.

*No enemies to attack or engage, yet the demo gives you attack instructions. This leads me to believe there's more to be discovered.

*Puzzles are carefully concealed

*Sadly its just not scary

What was the whole
Resident Evil ambassodor program that someone mentioned before. Anyone want to provide some context there?

I'm kinda missing where the Resident Evil in this Resident Evil is. There's no combat, for one, which I think is just a big mistake to not put in this demo. Two, it's a house. Yeah, okay, I get it. But it's just kinda there. Three...there's no personality here. If you told me it was a secret unlockable area of P.T. or a new Amnesia I'd believe you because it simply doesn't strike me as Resident Evil.
Pretty much yet people will disagree because P.T is back.

I think its just to prepare people for first person mode than anything else, i suspect it will have the same puzzles, combat but with a bit more tension.

Already seeing some people come out the VR demo feeling weird. The next year is going to be the single most subjective experience of games in history. The amount of people who are going to feel sick because of movement like this is going to be huge. Seems like a really stupid idea. I guess for those that don't get sick they will be happy, but that number has got to be small. Anecdotal, but everyone I have put through VR demos cannot do movement via a stick/d-pad. Everyone wants to sure. They are convinced they handle it (like I was) , but it just doesn't happen. There is a reason every Valve demonstration uses teleportation or real movement.

Shit. Well, I have to go to bed. Gotta be at work for 7AM. Maybe by the time I get home tomorrow they'll have gotten off their asses and actually put the demo up on the US store.

Even "FPS" horror (or something like Condemned) would be nice compared to what the demo is showing. This may as well be Gone Home.

Why do you think it's trash ?
Have you played it ? finished it ?
I highly doubt that feeling the controls will completely change my view of what I have seen in these streams of the demo.

I also don't care if it is not the actual game with its actual story. They clearly intend to show the style of environment and presentation they are going for and I think it is very boring. There are two kinds of horror. Serious horror and more thematically-spooky/Halloween kind of horror. The former was always lame to me because I'm never scared by media so I want it to do something interesting and fun with the theme. RE always did that, fitting into the latter type of horror. More of a comic book style, more Evil Dead or Walking Dead kind of stuff than REC (or whatever other shit movies there are, I don't like the genre) or ghost or torture porn movies, with big crazy monsters you actually fight and quite a range of interesting characters that aren't too serious.

If the demo shows the actual tone they are going for then I don't like it as an RE or even as its own thing. Not my bag at all. Even with something like The Evil Within, which tries hard to be interesting and true horror at the same time, just ends up losing my interest with its one-track mood. You have to mix it up and make it fun.

Was getting caught part of your plan?
Guys, I'm welcoming the fresh air in RE as much as the next person, but using theatre audience cheering as a counterpoint to people who don't feel the same is nowhere near close to cutting it.

Looking at a stream of the demo right now and this doesn't look terribly interesting, scary nor fun. After failing badly to capture the magic of 4 a couple times Capcom had to do something different, but I didn't expect, well, a P.T. knockoff lol.

This demo just makes me miss the combination of tension, solid pacing, difficulty, scariness, and excellent gameplay that 4 had even more.

lol RE wasn't RE after the RE 4 came out.

RE4 still had elements from the franchise. You can't even compare RE7 to anything from the series. You could never guess this is RE without being told so. RE4 gave innovation in the play style. This is literally just PT with the Resident Evil brand slapped on it. This isn't going to be a bad game by any means, but this isn't a RE game.

I guess 6 was pretty expensive wasn't it?

Dude, Capcom's mobile division crashing, 6 'under-selling' (I use quotes cause at the time, the figures seemed okay, until we found out what their expectations were. I believe it was 10mil or a little less), SF x T bombing all around the same time/fiscal year nearly bankrupted Capcom.

Especially considering said theater is full of like minded people that would get riled up by damn near anything.

There is a difference between initial reveal hype and a cooled down look at the game that actually exists in front of you that seems to escape so many people.

In a way, it kinda goes back to the roots of the first game; just in a different perspective (in more ways than one).

In the original game, the premise was around reports from dead bodies appearing in the forest. A special team is sent to the forest to investigate and end in an abandoned house/mansion.....

In this one you're inside an abandoned house in a forest with no memories as to why you're even there, only you need to escape.

Who knows if there will be chapters which you control agents or officers and use handguns, while investigating the whereabouts of the person you controlled a few chapters before.

But in theory, is not as far as Resident Evil as it may seem. You're just playing (in the demo) a different role. If anything, outside the first game is probably the only game in the series on which "resident evil" as a name fits.

Real talk I wanted more of 6's action or even revelations type of game but nope I knew they'd listen to all the fanwankery for P.T. and jump scares it is.

Well, there it is.

Yeah it's very odd they did such a 180 rather than trying a middle ground
