Just read this on the sun

"I feel like I got 1,000 pounds off my back," Ford told the Toronto Sun. "I felt I had to say it. It is what is. I feel two inches high right now but I needed to deal with it. I am not going to quit or take a leave."

"I am not an addict or an alcoholic. I have work to do and I am moving on. The way I see it now, this is over."

He'll win again. Just heard a caller on 640 say that he's never shown up drunk to city hall during a council meeting so he's doing a great job. "Hey as long as it doesn't affect his work, it's all good". See what the city is up against?

I'm glad we can now put the drama behind us.

Sorry Torontonians, but I'm a little bit relieved that my city is officially no longer the only one with a crack smoking mayor. Of course, our guy is still a City Councilman 24 years afterwards. Hopefully you will learn from our mistake.

Can someone explain what this means for us not in the know?

Potentially how much crazier can this get from this?

Well we might find out what the hell Ford was doing when he was sneaking around gas stations passing manila envelopes to Lisi.

We might get records of the wiretaps police performed on Lisi and presumably Ford like we got that info dump last week.

Although this one will likely be heavily redacted

Also he just said to the Sun that he still isn't going to resign or take a leave

Is this what it's like watching American political craziness from the outside? I'm highly entertained, thanks Canada!

People want this guy to resign. Come on, its not going to happen, just wait till next year. I think some are just bored.

I prefer my leaders and decisionmakers to experience drunken stupors whenever possible. Engaging in other mind-altering activities, such as crack cocaine smoking, in the course of one of said drunken stupors is a bonus. Please make as many important decisions as possible while high or drunk or both.

Rob Ford sets a great example for Toronto kids: there are apparently no consequences for doing hard drugs and lying about it. Awesome. Does he have any kids of his own?

Do even the Ford faithful truly believe that that was the one and only time he has done crack? What about all the clandestine meetings/payments/deliveries with Lisi? What about Sarah Thomson's comments that he sexually assaulted her and acted high at some event earlier in the year before the crack scandal broke. If by some disaster he ends up running for mayor again next year, any other candidate that gives him a pass on this is not getting my vote.

Can this guy not be sacked or something?

I mean, most jobs you'd be sacked for this.

There's no provisions to fire him at the municipal level unless he misses like 8 months of council meetings (which he might if he's in jail lol)

The province might be able to fire him if he gets charged, not sure on that one.

There's no way to impeach a mayor. Doesn't exist in the law here. If he was part of a political party then the constituents could oust him, but he's elected directly by the public.

Can't he just sign up for AA and keep his job? If he gets the help to stop drinking, maybe he can move on.

Always better to help someone than punish them I say!

Unfortunately even if he's convicted and goes to jail, it won't be any time soon.

Though hey, maybe he's missed 8 months worth of meetings already!

He lied, engaged in illegal activities, as a public servant.
Help sure? But allowing him to continue being the cities mayor is stupid.
