I can't even
The Sheik is in town for a show. This is the perfect time to exploit the publicity of the mayor to try to move some tickets. lol

I like to think that the Iron Sheik just wanders the world, solving people's problems.

Like the A-Team or the Littlest Hobo.

The Littlest Hobo once prevented provincially appointed child-care workers from rescuing a 10 year old girl so that a homeless vagrant could take her on a train ride across the country and show her the ways of the world.

Sounds more like Rob Ford to me.

Those Iron Sheik videos are god damn hilarious.

I really hope there is a sex tape floating around out there. The would seal everything into legendary status.

Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly said he wants Ford to take a leave
Speaker Nunziata says she advised Ford to take a leave

He is still sticking around

He's not gonna leave if he's asked, advised, or ordered.

He's only leaving if someone physically drags him kicking and screaming out of the mayor's office.

I just hope it's fucking televised if this happens.

I was thinking he could go out on a heroic heart-attack while wrestling the Sheik. It would be the best outcome - but yeah, at this point he's not leaving city hall without cuffs and police escort.

Urban legend - mysterious tape circulates, but all who watch it commit suicide! In all seriousness though, say the tape exists. I don't see why he wouldn't just say he was in a stupor and continue, happy as a pig in shit. . . unless there's some kind of underage factor or he's running a human trafficking ring and brothel out of his basement.

CBC was just going over the effects of crack. Once they got to the "malnourished due to suppressed appetite" bullet point there was a nice long awkward pause. lol

I don't have a link, I was actually (for once) watching it on live TV. This was during the 6PM EST Toronto News broadcast with Dwight Drummond and Anne-Marie Mediwake.

Listening to the radio once again coming home. I refuse to believe people are this stupid to defend this man. Apparently he did nothing wrong because he did "work first and play later"...I'm shit you not, that's what the defense of this man has come down to.

This Washington Post article is the best summary yet!

Canadian regime roiled by provincial scandal, sparking fears of instability

TORONTO – A powerful Canadian official has become entrenched in scandal after admitting to using crack cocaine, a taboo in this socially conservative society. In a country where dissent is limited by traditional mores, the transgression has sparked rare public outrage and raised concerns about the stability of the Canadian regime.

The official, Rob Ford, reigns over the restive border town of Toronto, a multi-ethnic hotbed known for its bustling markets and history of violent conflict.

Though long known for an ostentatious lifestyle, Ford had entrenched power by championing populist ideals that are seen as a direct challenge to the central government planners in Ottawa. Analysts who study the opaque Canadian political system warned that Ottawa may seize the opportunity to finally move against the weakened Ford. Though fears of a military coup remain low, it is still unknown how his allies within the regime will respond should the scandal spread.

In what many are taking as a sign of Ford's impending fall from power, the normally restrained Canadian state media are now openly covering the political scandal and even showing some signs of criticizing the now-besieged official.

Canada's political system is a complex and often inscrutable web of legislative bodies, executive offices and deeply entrenched local officials like Ford. Though it is nominally democratic, analysts warn that elections here can be "volatile."

The country's government is officially overseen by an ancient monarchy located thousands of miles away. The system's contradictions are a reminder that, though colonialism ended long ago in most of the world, this colony has yet to fully throw off its European overlords.

Worsening fears of instability, Toronto is mere hours from the strife-torn province of Quebec, which has been marked by decades of political unrest and separatist movements.

Though Toronto's streets remained quiet on Wednesday, a palpable sense of tension and uncertainty hung in the air. An American Embassy official here declined to comment but urged all parties to exhibit restraint and respect for the rule of law. In Washington, Pentagon planners were said to be preparing for a possible military intervention should political instability spread to Canada's oil-producing regions.

Did The Washington Post outsource the article to The Onion?
Sort of.
The scandal over Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has been covered extensively in the United States. But, to continue a theme we've used previously on Canada stories (borrowed from Slate's Joshua Keating), how would the American media write about this if Ford were from almost any other country? Here, then, is a satirical take on the story you might be reading if Ford were from China or Afghanistan. To reiterate: Satire.

Curious. I wonder if The Sun coughed up a bunch of dough for a video in jealousy over The Star getting so much credit in this scandal.

#robford the Toronto Star is working on a new exclusive on the mayor. There's a video but not THE video. More soon.

Maybe they're racing to see who can post it first

A Toronto city councillor who once had a solid alliance with Rob Ford is leading a push to try to remove the mayor from power if he doesn’t seek a leave of absence amid a growing crack cocaine scandal.

The latest sign of council’s growing frustration over Ford’s refusal to step aside came Thursday with Coun. Denzil Minnan-Wong’s announcement that he is amending his motion urging the mayor to take a leave to address his personal issues.

In an extremely rare move, Minnan-Wong revealed he is adding a condition asking council to petition the province to remove Ford from office if he does not voluntarily step aside.

“We have told him that he needs to find the exit, he doesn’t seem to be listening,” Minnan-Wong told reporters at city hall. “If he won’t find the exit, I think we have to show him the door."
