it's called a "beak".
That's it. Let it all out. It's like a dam bursting.
Probably worth mentioning the founder of RT seems to have a lot of respect for Gerstmann, and they've been on each other's panels. This looks like an uninformed cosplayer said something dumb, and the other guys went with it.
Even the RT community savaged them over it. Here's Ryan's response in their subreddit where he doubles-down (check the downvotes)
I'm not familiar with the specific review in question and I have no idea if the Rooster Teeth comments were off base in this circumstance, but I'm glad to read that someone is publicly taking Gerstmann to task in some form. The guy is a stick-in-the-mud blight on games media that's treated like a messiah for giving one shit game a mediocre review a decade ago. He has zero enthusiasm and only cynicism for gaming -- and it shows in both his writing as well as his podcast. He should just switch over to writing about wrestling or something that he actually enjoys.
This is true. In a lot of Review Threads, when a negative one comes along, a majority of threads seem to say "everyone else is giving it good reviews so this guy must be wrong." I've even seen bad reviews called clickbait by users in those topics.
I am but whatever.Bad posts like this make me glad you're not into Giant Bomb.
Then why are some many people implying that they were payed off or shills? Seems like a childish retort from a silly fans. This has nothing to do with GB fandom?
These YouTube gaming personalities become more intolerable and unappealing every time they open their mouths. Not surprised they respond this way to criticism of products made by companies paying their bills though.
I mean, yeah, that's totally dickish, but who cares what Rooster Teeth has to say about anything?
This is great. I can't wait for the next Bombcast where Jeff sums his thoughts up in an one sentence 'Meh, I don't care' line.
lmao @ "I don't know if Jeff did that with his review" Of course he didn't, come on.

So Ryan says they base their reviews on the "gamers experience" and not by the games technical issues? Do they think that "gamers" aren't bothered by technical issues? Why do they think Digital Foundry exists?

It's kind of funny how some of these channels started as some alternative to the established games media, only to find themselves being part of the establishment and now dealing with the same issues they complained about earlier.Unfortunately, this is the nature of the beast right now. Youtube, online commentators used to have some type of legitimacy to them, despite being rough around the edges they still were normal folks talking about things honestly because they enjoyed it.
Problem is some of these people now have no other choice but to try and make money this way. So, a lot of them take in whatever they can get. They want to make a living, so they'll bend to money very easily. Most of them wouldn't get hired by a real publication if their lives depended on it. They're just not qualified.
It's going to be increasingly problematic finding outlets you can trust.

Brad or Dan will review it. Jeff didn't like The Last of Us and no one really cared cause he didn't review it.
Jeez, didn't know it was to that level! Man, and people trust Youtube gaming people over critics even with multiple Youtube scandals. Shit is painful. This instance is particulary funny though, since they are not a review site. They are a company that is paid to make ads and videos for video game companies. They make all those Gamestop in-game ads that play on the TVs at Gamestops. This company has many different branches though, sure, but the people on this podcast make money from the games they are defending. They are "in bed" (if that is not too strong a term) with Microsoft VERY heavily. They show up in promotional material for the XBO and everything. They aren't a group that shouldn't be taken seriously when it comes to their critical opinions on games, due to how connected they are to many of the companies on a business level.
The problem I have with them going on a rant like this is that they have millions of fans, and their fans are absolutely going to favor their opinions over anyone else's even if they really probably shouldn't.

Tho they do have a weird sometimes enforcement of no shitting on video game things in thier podcast.

Who the fuck tales Gertsman seriously, dude is a joke, his idiotic hate for Yoshi games makes it even worse
So continues the eternal battle of Jeff's honest reviews vs websites paid by the companies that have made the games being reviewed

I feel there is a bit of a difference between your readers complaining and another outlet calling you out over it. If another outlet calls you out, I expect a good argument from them or at least some proof if it is about scoring games higher or lower on purpose.I know, that was just an example. People fucking HATE it, if you don't like their new favorite thing. ANother example would be the reaction to Giant Bomb's E3 reactions.
What, they didn't lose their shit about FFVII remake?? HOW DARE THEY NOT CARE ABOUT MY NERD FANTASIES?!
What is a jeff gerstmann?
No they just avoid it in most cases on purposeWait, what? RT don't allow video game criticism on their video game podcast?
Meg Turney: "Ok, so I have a bone to pick. And it's people who review shit low. Because I feel like people do that to be 'eh we're different'. Everybody gave Fallout 4 90s and up. 70. You're not different or special because you review a game low!"
Ryan Haywood: "'Look, we have legitimate things to say and if we don't rate it low, you know how legitimate we are.'"
Meg Turney: "Yeah, no one will come to our site to look at it."
Gus Sorola: "I feel like the bugs and negativity is really overblown. And that's what people are making a stand on. Trying to stand out like 'oh we're different, we have a more keen eye than the average reviewer'. Like people were jizzing over Jeff Gerstmann and Giant Bomb because they called out all the problems in the game."
Meg Turney: "They were like, 'It's a technical mess'." (she says this while completely forgetting she just had a whole segment about how buggy the game was earlier in the podcast)
Gus Sorola: "Yeah like, 'Thank you Jeff Gerstmann for keeping it real'."
Ryan Haywood: "We sit and wine on cheese and crackers as we wrote our review."
Meg Turney: "Yes, on my Mixlr."

Pretty much proof that Jeff is still the best. Having said that:
She'd fit right in here. People go apeshit and throw equivalent hissy fits once their darling games are scored lower by an outlet, see every Naughty Dog review thread and the like.
He loves Mario Maker
He hates wrestling
lol I dunno isn't this what happens in pretty much every AAA game Review Thread on GAF?
Like, just watch when he ends up not liking Uncharted 4. Oh boy...
Also funny they admitted to not reading his review and some of them said they don't even know who he is.
They made the Red vs Blue videos a while back. I stopped paying attention to them after Season 3 or 4, story got convoluted.
