I just finished the book. Liked it a lot. I'd give the movie a chance even if it's "not on par with the book" if it's good on its own. Not sure what to expect, though.
I don't think the movie will be great, or even "Oscar-worthy" as touted in the trailer :lol
However, I love the set design and scenery. An abandoned city overtaken by wildlife and vegetation is a interesting enough concept to get me interested.
I wouldn't get too hyped or expect too much though...
That was pretty sweet and I think I already like the movie because of the dog. The last man on earth totally needs a dog, something the book didn't really notice.
I would actually hate a straight adaptation of the book. The book had a very gothic tone and was notable for the pseudo-science used to explain the "monsters." Unless it was done very avant-garde it would be pretty slow.
I like me some post-apocalytic movies, especially with a budget like this one. Too bad about the mediocre response from critics so far. Would be nice to watch something in the sci-fi genre again that isn't just eyecandy and gunporn but has, you know, something resembling a solid story.
I'm excited for it. Reviews seem to be decent. Which is a good sign. So it should atleast be enjoyable. If Juno isn't playing at my theater. Ill probably see it. Or maybe Ill go to the cheap and see American Gangster again
Saw this tonight. The fact that it has/had a 57% rating is asinine. The movie is an 8/10 for me. Great scares, great emotion, competent special effects, and great acting.
Saw the midnight showing tonight.
The Batman prologue was a nice surprise (I had forgotten about it), but was kind of boring. I'm glad I saw it though.
Anyway, I am Legend is just another example of a high budget, high concept film that just fails to deliver a satisfying final act.
The set-up is great, empty New York is breathtaking, and Will Smith does his I Robot character a little better this time. Certainly not Oscar Worthy :lol
That being said, there are some really great scares. Will Smith's venture into
the dark house that Sam runs into
is terrifying.
The main problem I had was that even the best scenes were all done better in 28 days later.
The ending, which took an obvious departure from the book, was made all the worse by the total disconnect between the title and the movie. "I am Legend" is thematically significant in the book, but is completely wasted here. The writers make a last ditch attempt to explain it in the final line of the movie, but their new meaning is just thematically empty and irrelevent.
See it for Batman and the first act. The rest is filler garbage.
The Dark Knight trailer is only on Imax if im not mistaken. I am fucking pumped for I Am Legend so the trailer is a sweet ass bonus. Going tonight as the midnight show got canceled last night due to the 45 feet of snow that hit Boston in like an hour during rush hour.

I'll probably still go see it. The critics are hit and miss on a lot of things. They were spot on about The Golden Compass but I'll never forgive them about praising the trash that is Hellboy.

Ah, I went to the midnight premiere.. um, I can't really give an honest opinion right now.. I'm really tired. And at work. But I will say that, it didn't live up to my expectations. And the ending.. cop out?
Oh, and yeah.. they showed the The Dark Knight Trailer in regular threaters as well. I can't wait for that one. Looks pretty awesome.
But yeah, I'd like to know how others felt about this film.. looking forward to impressions. I apologize for my lack of detail but I rather wait till others start filling up the thread with stuff.. mhm.
