I've said it before and I'll say it again, you guys must restrict yourselves to oscar nominated movies to think this movie is an "abortion".

I saw it last night and it was quite good, one of the better movies of the year.

continue to restrict yourself to crappy movies to fund more crappy movies :lol

I Am Legend is faaaaaaaaaar from crappy. That said, the last 20% of it or so left a not-so-good taste.

I've never read the book; maybe they could've extended it 30 minutes or so and gave us something better/less predictable to work with?

The more I think about it, the more I dislike the ending. I've only read a summary of the book, but its idea seems much more intriguing than what we got in the movie.

It isn't a crappy movie. Disappointing when in comparison with the novel? Yes. But it's far from being crappy.

Horribly overacted tripe. He literally mimiced Shrek for 4 mins. The direction/editing was horrendous.

The visuals of the city were amazing though.

They owe me my fucking time back. This is Castaway with a doomed dog and zombies. The fucking volleyball had it better.

Another Will Smith bomb.

Just saw it. It was decent, but by no means great. Will Smith did his worst Castaway impression throughout the majority of the film and, at times, I found it hard to keep myself from laughing because of it. The only thing worse than that was the movie's ending--what a shitfuck. At times it felt like it was really going somewhere, but I guess the film got lost along the way.

Ah well, it's still a movie worth watching. I just know I won't be lining up to buy the DVD.

Another? Mind telling the others?

Maybe not financially since I don't track them, but IMO Wild Wild West, Men in Black 2 and I, Robot were utter trash.

Best part was the Superman/Batman movie poster in Times Square and the Teen Titans poster in the video store.

Sorry, we'll stop voicing opinions! Huh?

I'm saying that the last third of the movie took it in a predictable, generic direction with a complete cop-out ending and that what little I know of the book's plot is completely different and sounds much more interesting.

It's a shame, since the first part of the movie was well done.

Opinions are perfectly fine. Blindly hating a movie because it has Will Smith on the other hand is idiotic.

Mind naming some? I sure haven't heard many other then the generic "Novel is superior".

Horrid acting all around.
Horrid CGI whether the animals or the creatures.
Horrid attempts to be cutesy with the Shrek crap as well as singing and conversations with the dog.
Horrid attempts to market Will Smith with pointless scenes of him doing pull ups and curls or whatnot.
No attempt to follow up on the "no humanity in them left at all" statement he makes
when the whole thing is showing that they ARE showing humanity by trying to save the female mate , and get revenge for her
The fact that Paris Hilton could make a more convincing scientist.
Horrible horrible cliche ending.
No attempt to explain
why he was dumping vinegar all over his walkway and stairs when he first goes into his house.
I mean they go out of the way to change the creatures away from being vampires they could at least make some effort to explain them. One of the things about the book was the attempt to try and explain things like garlic, sunlight and whatnot in scientific terms.

The whole movie felt rushed, with too much time spent on cliche and shitty flashbacks and feeble attempts to shove the fact that he is alone down your throat instead of actually explaining what is going on.

well, i'm put off and i really liked Constantine, so i'm used to the director not being faithful to the source material.

i saw the movie in IMAX and think it sucks, mainly because of the ending and the fact that it felt short. the cg animals were kinda shitty too and the main zombie boss is the same guy from the mummy movies which we found a bit funny.

i think its pretty self explanatory. they didnt tell you where the zombie virus came from either, but i'm sure you figured that one out.

horrible acting?

most of the reviews (even the negative ones) claim will smith's acting is good even if the movie falls apart in the 2nd half.

and i love how will smith has another bomb when most of his movies are really high grossing. the only true stinkers of his i can think of are WWW and MIB II.

Is there a Cortman character? I really hoped that in at least one of the teasers, we'd get a "come out, Neville;" and not hearing that makes me think there isn't one.

high grossing ≠ quality

quantity ≠ quality

and i never said that.

to claim its "another" will smith bomb would imply a flop at the box office which his movies really do not do.

never said his movies were the best but there is a trend here on GAF where everything will smith is in already hated before the movie comes out. i have not seen this movie and it may suck but i doubt its so bad that words can not describe how shitty it is. who knows maybe its even that bad but judging from talk about the movie from when it was announced majority of ppl sounded like they wanted to hate it before it even came out.

i just find it funny that even in the negative reviews its mentioned that his acting is good in this movie yet gaming age is citing will smith's acting as one of the reasons the movie sucks.

No
And..
they never went into the second type of creature, the one that kept their humanity, never dealt with the 'plant' they sent or anything. It was Will Smith alone in a bad knock off of 28 days later but in NY. Not even a fake attempt at being deep or having some thought

Thats because its the truth. Get on the bandwagon: he can only play "I-Robot" will, even in Hitch, Bagger Vance, Ali, and every other movie he is in. People were hating on Will for being in the movie, when it was announced that he was in it, for whatever reason. I haven't seen the movie yet, but, I still haven't seen a review that lambastes Will's acting in the movie.

I'm going to see the movie too, but, who knows. Maybe his acting is bad. One would think, that if its such shite, the critiques would have been all over him.

Most reviews say that Amy Winehouse is a good singer?
Does that make it fact? Eh Eh
Will Smith is great in many movies, this is not one of them.

The movies you mention, he was great in.
He was even great in ID4.
I will be honest, I do not blame him in this as much as many.
You can only do so much with the material that you were given.

Interesting. I think I'm starting to get the gist of how the ending must be different as well, then, since it really couldn't work out in the usual way without that second 'type.'

Bite my head off if you will, but I enjoyed. Nothing life changing, but it did what it did well. And it ended just about the way I wanted it to (aka
Will Smith not living
) so that sealed it for me.

I'm sorry some of you guys hated the movie. Seems to have been a pretty excruciating experience from what I can tell. Too bad for you, I guess. *shrug*

what the hell are you talking about?

music and movies are both very subjective and rarely do you have a consensus of something as either being completely horrible or completely awesome. i never said every will smith movie is good as a fact or that he acts awesome in every role, but when even the reviews that say the movie sucks say that will smith acts well in this movie and then here on gaming age i read how the movie sucked and will smith sucked in it....i automatically think its due to the anti will smith factor.

as for the bomb reference i thought ppl were talking about bombing at the box office...to which i replied and said his movies do not bomb at the box office.

i do not know what your opinion of will is but i am going off of what i observe here about will smith. you yourself said he is one of the reasons to hate the movie, his acting is horrible in this movie, and they tried to market him because they showed him working out?

i read that they captured soldiers and how they mentioned they would work out and stay in shape so they would not go insane in captivity and solitude. thats what they said they tried to mimic here.

maybe it comes across that way, again i have not seen it yet, but your review coupled with the other here lead me to believe most ppl did not want to enjoy it going in.

Pretty much agree here. I can't really see that many people wanting to enjoy this film coming out calling it utter shit. It's simply not that bad.

The one thing that would silence all haters would've been if they kept the deleted ending depicting
Carlton as the leader of the Vambies.
That shit woulda blew my mind.

smith and the dog had a pretty entertaining relationship

otherwise. . .

Got back from it. I really enjoyed it and Will Smith was pretty damn good.

And please don't talk to me about the short story, I don't give a damn. Get over it. Read that liked it, watched this like it. If people were hung up on the book, instead of seeing a separate film adaption going in then the outcome is obvious. This movie was never going to be like the short story through in through and was once attached to Arnold and took place in another city with grander action set pieces.

It's always been the premise that was garnered interest, this being the 3rd time, in incidentally reading about the other versions this had a bit of the Charltons Heston The Omega Man influence near the end.

One thing I loved was when Neville described the fate of 6 billion people near the end when God was mentioned.

Ignoring all the BS above, this was an enjoyable movie. And yes, I have read the original story, many years ago.

In fact, I would say that the very thing people were harping on before the movie came out was one of it's strong points: Smith was very good in the role. He did an excellent job portraying a man who believes he is alone in the world and all that that brings. The 'heartbreaking' scenes were carried by him completely.

One criticism I do agree with is the CGI. Not of very high quality. Kind of detracted from the rest.

But overall I did enjoy my time watching it.

Don't know where the hate is coming from; but I'd imagine it was present before ever walking into the theater for some. Regardless, it was a good time (and I was actually in a pretty shitty mood when I sat down).

Also: Fuckin' Dark Knight bit was incredible.

Some may say it's cheesy, but try and tell me YOU could've thought Shrek could've been so allegorical for the end of the world and it's survivors. I mean, COME ON.

LOL.

I've pretty much learned not to trust NeoGAF when it comes to movie recommendations. I'll see for myself on Sunday.

This.

GAF's elitist attitude towards movies is simply unbearable.

you know, you guys need to learn the difference between elitism and smelling shit where it lies. you use that as a defense mechanism, and it's wearing thin

As many flaws as this movie had, it was entertaining. Many things could've been improved on, but I walked out of the theater happy and not regretting the money I spent.

or ppl need to realize that not every movie lies on 2 extremes...one being awesome and the other being utter shit.

Bah, I loved it, as did pretty much everybody in the theater judging by the discussions I overheard afterward. I can't wait to see it again.

Haha, yeah. I was like...I'll be damn, that's Shrek in a totally different light. It was humorous and somber at the same time, but I would easily imagine something like Shrek would be the type of film to get glued into again and again in a depressing world for Neville, where it would a sharp contrast of just being all innocent, true love, childhood fairy tales, friendship, good over evil, funny family filled film.

Why is it that EVERY "last man on Earth" movie or book or whatever HAS OTHER PEOPLE? Even dead, even zombies, goblins, whatever. Last Man On Earth == Last Man On Earth damnit!
