I would actually hate a straight adaptation of the book. The book had a very gothic tone and was notable for the pseudo-science used to explain the "monsters." Unless it was done very avant-garde it would be pretty slow.

Spoiler tags? Damn - what monsters? I hate you.

Went to the midnight showing -- excellent movie! Will Smith is awesome, especially since he's the only guy on screen most of the movie and his only co-star is a dog. Kind of hard to talk about a lot of the movie without massive spoilers, but I like how the movie plays out. Not everything is explained, which keeps up some of the suspense.

Also, I was at a digital screening and both the Iron Man and Dark Knight trailers were shown as the previews.

zombie horror
final act
It's funny because I Am Legend influenced a majority of zombie flicks since the 1960s. And now it's being influenced by those films more than the original novella. Oh well, I really don't mind since they've tried remaking the book three times now.

Saw the midnight showing tonight.
The Batman prologue was a nice surprise (I had forgotten about it), but was kind of boring. I'm glad I saw it though.

I heard that the Batman Preview is exclusive to IMAX Theaters. Can you or anybody confirm this?

Saw the movie last night...came away a bit disappointed. There are no twists in the story and the ending is kinda predictable. other things i didnt' like...

the girl who saved him...how did she not get caught by the zombies before will smith got to the pier?

what the fuck was up with the religious vision shit? God told the woman about the colony of survivors? give me a break

wait, so they completely fucked with the female character? in the book she was a new breed of human like "vampire" and was in effect a trap for neville

The movie was awesome as hell, and Will Smith continues to show that he can be a great dramatic actor.

Much more of a Castaway type of feel from the movie than a thriller, but there is some really intense stuff that happens in the movie.

Happily would go see it again.

PS - If movies being exact recreations of the book are important to you:
1. Go to hell
2. This isn't something you'll want to see

There was nothing to indicate that she was half vampire. In the movie, she saves will from some other vamps and takes him back to his house. Doesn't do anything important until the end, when the house is under siege by the vamps. Will gives her the antidote and she escapes with the boy to the colony...which she knew about cause god told her it would be there...blah...

that's kind of lame

Definitely thinking about seeing this. The NY Post gave it four stars which is usually pretty good for them. Also want to read the graphic novel.

I'm going to see this later tonight.

Can't wait.

Enjoyed the book. Glad to hear the movie isn't a 1:1 carbon copy.

I think you're looking way too much into the "God" conversation that they had. I didn't view that scene as anything more than polar views of the future.

In Neville's mind, there was no hope other than him.

In the mind of the woman, God was being used as her feeling of hope.

If everyone in the world was dead, of course you would have personality fallout. Neville lost his ability to communicate effectively with people. Neville was reduced to having human interactions with maniquins... This woman in her search for something more, could just have easily fabricated this conversation with "God" as Neville created these conversations with maniquins.

In my opinion, if Will Smith is involved, expect banality

(I'm looking at you I, Robot, you sad fucking converse commercial)

very good movie, but came a bit short on my expectations

Some great scenes by Big Willie

I was at the midnight IMAX showing, the half-hearted applause (especially in light of the much more impassioned response when the lights went dim) sounded like a 57%

I really don't care how the reviews turn out for it, I'm going to see it. There have been movies that haven't done good review wise, that I absolutely loved so...we'll see.

Plus, IMO Will Smith is an awesome actor, one of my favorites.

You know, just to say...that says 45feet...maybe 45inches is what he means:lol

Yeah i meant 45 inches because i definitely wasn't exaggerating at all. Not even a little bit. I've said it a million times, I don't exaggerate.

In my opinion you don't know shits about movies and actors.

Why is every black current actor considered shit or overrated on this board? Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, Terrance Howard, etc.. have all been victims to this here :lol

I can possibly see Will Smith and Jamie Foxx but freaking Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman?

Just got back from seeing it. I didn't like the last act, and the ending was a cop out, but the first two thirds of the movie were great.

I wouldn't blanket it across GAF, just a few people.

I'll be seeing it later tonight. Not often I'm excited about seeing movies, but this one caught my eye. Please, please don't suck.

Like Ice Cube, Will Smith should have stuck with music.

He's a solid actor that has forced himself into a corner as far as parts that he is considered for. Six Degrees of Seperation, Ali, Pursuit of Happiness, and even The Legend Of Bagger Vance are all solid acting performances on Will Smith's part. He's obviously not one of the most talented actors in the business but he's certainly a hell of a lot better then people give him credit for on this board.

I kind of want to see this movie just to start a slow clap after the TDK trailer, then get up and yell "BATMAN, F' YEAH!" or "Theres a spy, sapping my sentry!

I love apocalyptic movies and also really liked thE past attempts at this book so this is a must watch. I dont get all the hate for Will Smith. I like all his movies as they never bore me. And I still think I.Robot is one of th bet sci-fi movies made.

Graphic novel? Screw that! Read the actual book for crying out loud. It's only a novella after all.

Damn kids and their "graphic novels"! :D

Ive been wanting to read the original story, what is it called?

Saw it this afternoon. Loved it.

Go see it.

I also went and picked up the book since I had never even heard of it before this movie.

Words can not describe how shitty this movie is.
It is an abortion of a film that is a horrid kick in the pills to anyone who has read and enjoyed the book.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, you guys must restrict yourselves to oscar nominated movies to think this movie is an "abortion".

I saw it last night and it was quite good, one of the better movies of the year.
