Watched it on IMAX. Looked great.

The movie was what I expected though: CRAP.

I guess this movie was supposed to appeal to teenagers. The amount of Linkin Park (even though I like them) and the American Pie vibe in this movie was so cringeworthy. It was quite embarassing.

The action was better in the first half, they showed a lot of the transforming sequence. Then the later half basically became Indiana Jones + robots. And it was soooooo drawn out too. We gotta find that thing. We found it. Optimus is so far away. Run. Explosions. Run. More explosions. Good lord it was so drawn out.

I havent watched the first one and I heard it's better. LOL.

If it werent for IMAX, I would have been a lot more harsh about it.

It's a movie geared towards kids to sell toys... keep this in mind.

Summer-fare popcorn to sell a toy line.

It's giant fucking robots blowing shit up, what else were you expecting?

To be honest, I don't think any one of us are expecting any sophisticated cinematics. That doesn't however keep us from judging the movie are giving it a horrible grade, regardless of what the material is.

I see this all the time. "This movie is horrible!" "What did you expect it's about giant robots, of course it's going to be horrible" "I KNOW THAT, but let me at least talk about how horrible it is out loud because once upon a time, I used to really really really like transformers :("

Seeing the film tomorrow night. Not having seen it, the fact they are throwing in a baby-mod version of a Raiders of the Lost Arc script and more robot fighting pretty much insures I will like the film for what it is more than the first one.

With that kind of attitude i'd think excactly the same thing....

Here's hoping the Japanese one day do things right! (i.e like Godzilla, when Hollywood had it's shot ,the masters showed us how it should have been done! (Godzilla 2000).)

All I want from it is action that's never boring. First one failed there in its 2nd half. That comment about the movie being drawn out, during action sequences nonetheless, is what I thought about several parts of first movie as well, and that doesn't sound good. I really expected tighter/more engaging directing of action sequences from someone who's famous for that.

So, I just looked at Bad Boys 2's Rottenmeter: 23%.

I enjoyed Bad Boys 2.

Bad Boys 2 + Transformers = Fine with me.

jesus you people and expectations :lol
is that really the best you can come up with? the funny thing is.. nobody is expecting this to be the next citizen kane. i just want a badass blockbuster movie and judging by the reviews, it doesn't even succeed on that level.

so tired of the direction hollywood has taken.
will vote with my dollars and skip this one (amongst many others).
I'm sure it will be all over HBO eventually.

At the moment yes. I was sorta expecting the same thing. Oh well I'll check out anyways. I thought it'd be good, not great like star trek great.

Come to think of it I can't stand the first movie anymore so my expectations are falling a bit more now.

That's the main problem I had with the first movie.

Just got back from an IMAX screening in NYC, and holy shit was that awesome...ly long. IMAX scenes were incredible. But yeah, long.

a good Transformers movie?

Just saw it at an employee screening. It's a fun action flick, but I can see people not liking this for various reasons. :lol

I liked it better than T4 anyway.

Japanese Transformers shows and comics have always been a thousand times more retarded than anything ever done in the US or UK. Only hope for a Japanese TF movie if you want them to turn into cosmic Sailor Moon heroes and lick underage girls.

This movie looks atrocious. How anyone could possibly have enjoyed the first one is beyond me. Aside from some female eye candy, the whole thing was an utter mess. I felt like Michael Bay had thrown up on the screen, and I'm sure this one will turn out no better.

I think it 'grounded' it a bit more,i mean in the first film
in that massive battle in the street,i didn't see one person get seriously hurt,in this one you see people get crushed and blown up and soldiers being soldiers and being in the front line fighting, deaths are to be expected.

Obviously as a family film they can only push that sort of stuff so far
i mean no one wants to see a close up of a human blown to pieces by a Decepticon.

i found the milking of 9/11 (by direct reference and by similar imagery) really obnoxious - it was such a cheap way to get some kind of impact/emotional resonance with no effort.

on one hand he appeared to be making some kind of heavy handed statement about soldiers lost at war, and on the other completely reveling in making military gun and explosion porn for teenage boys. there were gratuitous slo-mo shots of soldiers, tanks, bombers and strike fighters all over the place. the two were so at odds, and i completely agree with Busty about the tone being all over the place. for me the premise of these awesome alien robots has so much potential for a real sense of adventure and invention but it just felt like a heap of empty, gratuitous violence.

i would have preferred this to be in an alternate-but-recognisable world, not just 'middle eastern war scenes with robots'. whatever, kids will love it.

But did you like it?

If they stitched all the IMAX parts together and cut out an hour then I would have really liked it. Other than that it was kinda all over the place, drawn out and a little too silly at times (hah), at least compared to the first.

And I see what people mean about the twins (After looking back into the thread)

I must be the only one who doesn't give a shit about the "female eye candy" people keep spouting about Transformers.

I came for the giant robot action and came afterwards because of the amazing looking giant robot action!

I'm appalled at how bad this film was. Can't say much now but virtually every element was horrible. Every line was cringe-worthy (and I seriously mean every line). The action is scattered and tedious. I'll write up a full review later but for now I can't give this movie more than a 2 out of 10.

also, I enjoyed Transformers 1.

I saw the first movie again on the weekend.

It's ridiculous how slow-paced it is, and how many sub-plots and human characters they put in. You'd hope that the robots and action would make up for all that, but no...

Lousy movie. No expectations for the sequel.

Awesome well designed robots that are awesome rendered animated blowing shit up. Bay & company failed miserably with both movies.

Can't wait for Bayformers 2 to reach 5% on RT and bomb at the box office.

Just got back from seeing it, pretty fucking cool. One of my friend's brothers works for Dreamworks and he managed to snag two extra tickets for tonight's advance screening. My friend went into it with pretty low expectations, he didn't like the first one too much and he kinda dislikes Shia LaBeouf.

-If you liked the first one, you'll like this one even more.
-Missed Optimus kicking massive ass in the first movie? Not anymore you won't.
-Nobody does explosions quite like Michael Bay does.
-The plot is a touch hard to follow at times, and there was probably only one real "roll my eyes" part of the movie.
-The showstealers? The twins Mudflap and Skids.

The action was better and easier to follow in most cases, and overall the comedic moments were delivered much better this time around.

There is no Transformers Defense Force. Just an entire board who decided to hate a movie and every person who enjoy it.
Well said, my man. Many of the haters had their replies typed up in a notepad file before even seeing the film. It really bothers me that people can't enjoy movies like this...I would hate to be such a person.

Anyway, can't wait to see this...probably gonna end up being my favorite film of 2009. Haven't seen Star Trek yet tho

Don't listen to those people bashing it man...Action, robots, explosions, amazing special fx, cheesy one-liners, Megan Fox, you're gonna have a blast. Ignore the debbie downers

Are you suggesting we did a bad job with the visual effects? ;P

That's pretty much for me and my family. I'm taking them all to the movies and lunch. Good times ahead.

if there's one thing that can't be faulted on this movie it's the absoultely amazing modeling and animation. the robots look fantastic.

Just got in. It was a good movie, but I didn't have the awe that I did over the first one. I guess part of that is due to it being a sequel. I hated how random Transformers just showed up and had little screentime and/or dialogue. Sideswipe and Jolt were in there, but were hardly seen. I don't think Jolt had a single line in the entire film. Soundwave was awesome though. Still, I liked it, but it doesn't top Star Trek as my favorite movie of the year.

There were problems with the first movie, like not being able to see the fights, and other things (story, acting, etc.). But the Special FX on the robots were amazing, and I expect great things from this one given a no doubt massive budget. You don't go see Bay films for anythign but the special FX>

I do not care for the extended human presence in these movies. The way I remember the show is primarily this: giant robots shooting and punching the shit out of each other. The new Transformers are well designed, in my opinion, but I hate the actors. Not because of who they are, or how they portray the characters. I just hate that they are there, period, and the extended amount of time and development they get.

I don't care about human relationships. If you have to have girl candy in this movie, make her seen, not heard. Same for the fella. I went to see giant robots fighting for Trans1. I won't be watching Trans2.

wtf? That's probably the only thing Bay did well.

There's a lot more giants robot fighting in the new one. If that's the only thing you want to see though, I dunno what to tell you.

there was far more robot action in this film than the first one. really laboured setup at the start of the two kids' completely unconvincing relationship, but if you want robot fighting, there is HEAPS, youd be stupid not to see it if that's what you're after.

Indeed. I would go as far to say there's more action in the first half of this movie than there was total in the first one. If there's one thing Revenge of the Fallen falls short on, it sure as hell isn't action.

Seriously?

Well hoooly shiiiite. That's insane. Now look what you've done, you made me giddy!

Why must Wednesday be so far away?!

Just saw this.

A slight improvement over the first.

I'm a huge G1 fan, and have come to terms with the fact that I'm just not going to get that here. There's a lot of nods in here though to things I'm familiar with.

My biggest complaint (and this isn't really a spoiler considering its in the first 10 minutes of the movie, but there's your warning I suppose): I don't feel its in his character for Optimus to execute a fallen enemy like that. He'd fight him to the death in battle....but a gun straight to the face when he's down? That's some Megatron shit and it didn't really belong.

Yeah, felt very un-Optimus in my opinion. Some cruel shit there yo.

Also,
ripping The Fallen's heart with his bare mechanical hands was also WOAH. We were all a bit shocked he pulled a "fatality!" move there :lol
