Rumor - Microsoft declined the Star Wars KOTOR remake deal

Soon, every big partnership of Sony is cause MS rejected.
Narratives getting destroyed left n right.

You love to see it.

Only thing I'll say is that I find it odd the deal wasn't made with Xbox. Why is anyones guess but I doubt that Microsoft wasn't able to outbid Sony.
Agree.

With how much they spent on Bethesda and ABK....it damn sure isnt about money.

So if MS doesn't bankroll every game ever pitched to them it's a failure? Your ranting doesn't even make any real points dude. Everyone knows that MS needs content. That's why they buy a lot. What we're disagreeing about is whether they need this particular game. None of your ranting points are even about this game. You're just acting like everyone thinks MS needs zero games and I have no idea who you're trying to correct.

It's hard not to see Xbox of old during 360 days when they were signing deals for Mass effect and had close relationships because of games like Knights form Bioware, to where we are now.

It's weird.

Sony signs tons of content that is multiplatform. Microsoft some how is looked at by Aspyre as not a deal was struck is beyond me. There are games that are connected to xbox's history thats one of the big ones.

It's staggering that We hear about all these deals from Sony and they have less money than Microsoft?

You're taking this conversation to a different planet so I'll try to bring it back down to earth.

I don't expect everything they put out to be a "banger" but I have faith in studios like BGS, Obsidian and inXile since they have a history of delivering quality RPGs.

Asspyr on the other hand doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. They've never made an original game, let alone an RPG.

Neither has The Initiative, but they hired developers who are experienced in making games. Why do you think that the team at Aspyr making KOTOR are simply the same people who were doing ports all those years?

lol reading this gives me the impression of someone shadow boxing a room full of invisible assailants.

Take a deep breath and relax.

I'm shadow boxing idiot Reponses and deflections about how Microsoft's 2022 so far is a shit fest, and how someone like Sony made deals for games that honestly have way more history with XBox than anything. It's like one cares about the quality of their content that they put on their platform third party or not and the other just cares about how a service grows.

There's just too many people trying to save face, and act dumb that exclusive content means nothing for platform growth. And just a gen ago MS was signing call of duty, Titanfall, Sunset over drive, among others.
Now unless they can own them, or have the game on gamepass without spending Ludacris amounts they dont want to? Even though they basically have spend close to 80+ Billion with Bethesda/Activision/Blizzard deals?

Sorry, but something doesn't add up in terms of viewing lenses. If I was all about growing the platform, exclusive content regardless of gamepass helps you do that. Yes in the future call of duty on gamepass every year is great. But if the rest of the year isnt good, then its going to be like whats happening now in streaming services.
People will sub for months where there's things they want to watch/play and then unsubb.

Someone suggested that they might have gone to Sony due to the support they would get from their studios. That does make sense to me if this wasn't about money.

Seems like they are doing okay to me. Looking forward to the big show, hopefully it will give us plenty to talk about.

Great one year where games they bought dropped. And one of those games is still content incomplete.

How was 2020,2019, 2022?

1 year vrs many without games that people want to play is a nothing burger.

Don't try and sow concern while hocking your favorite brand over a third party title. She was dumped early on.

What they do have however, are original developers that worked on the OG.

And the PC version is far superior due to the extra gameplay modes/settings, etc..
Sow concerns? You are usually quite concerned over most things not on your preferred box. Favorite band? You mean Bioware? Yeah I have more confidence in the original version over any remaster. We'll see how this turns out before any proclamations MS made a mistake. RPGs are not a genre Xbox is lacking.

Glad you like the PC version. I prefer console gaming and I can play the uprezed, faster loading Xbox version for no additional fees and I appreciate that my original disc still works.

His posts do come across like he's hyperventilating or something. It's so weird haha
The guy is a complete joke and deserves to be laughed about.

He kept going on for many months on how Sony is remaking silent hill and MGS with Konami and kojima and bluepoint and shit. How they will be all Sony exclusive and went on on hyping the "leaks".

The size of the wallet is not the whole story. One of them seeks deals for the dev/ pub to market or sell exclusively on their console. So they would pay a fee, and the dev/pub would still get 70% of all sale revenue (if the split is correct on my end). The other wants to make deals for the dev/pub to put in on subscription for a large chunk of people across PC and console. So they would pay a fee, and the deb/pub would only get a percentage of a subscription fee for a huge chunk of the audience. Obviously the devs/pub would want to make up all of that lost sales revenue with a much, much higher fee. And MS is already getting the same subscription money from most of its customers with or without the game. So it is not apples and apples here. MS has to approach these deals much different than Sony. You get an absolute ton with GP, but it is still a business and expecting MS to pay to put all the big games on it from 3rd parties is just not realistic when you take into account what that would cost.

I guess a fair question would be whether or not you would still fault MS if it took the Sony deal, but that meant it would not be on GP like traditional Xbox exclusives?

Its warms my heart to see how passionate and concerned you are over Microsofts output. I'm sure Microsoft appreciate it too.
Hopefully they bring enough content out over the coming years to keep all you Xbox owners happy.

I'm not that big of fan of SW, so this shit can be a Stadia exclusive i won't give a damn, but i can see it be important for some.

skipping on new IP like Sclebound is justifiable
skipping on a AAA franchise, maybe
but skipping on any license Star Wars game, you simply can not do.

Did he pull that outta his ass though? Wheres his evidence for that. Nobody gets to just say shit and its automatically true. I don't care how good their reputation may be. Show some evidence to back your claims.
Yeah I don't believe this rumor either.
  1. If Sony wanted to get Starfield as exclusive, what was stopping them? They had already secured Ghostwire and Deathloop; they could have also got Starfield. MS legally couldn't intervene until the acquisition closed in mid-2021.
  2. Considering that Starfield is still at least 1 year away from release, what shape would it be in 2020? I don't think Starfield would be in any position by that time that would make Sony interested in paying millions of dollars.
  3. Considering the last two (verified) leaks about Starfield, the game is not in a good state development wise. Sony is usually very picky about the quality of the games they lock, e.g., Deathloop, FFVII Remake, Kena, Sifu. Based on the reports we've heard and Jason even using the term "Cyberpunk-ish" up until just a few months ago, I doubt Sony was really interested in Starfield.

This I believe was just a dumb ass move by Microsoft. KOTOR is connected to the original Xbox for various reasons and I don't know why Microsoft would pass on it just because Aspyr is developing it. Maybe if Microsoft were to oversee it like Sony appears to be doing since they're publishing the game, they would have been more inclined to get the game on Xbox day one. Instead, I will be playing it on my PS5 because fuck that, im not waiting.
It wasn't dumb. Not wanting to be responsible for remaking (and possibly destroying) an iconic 20 year old game feels like the safe bet considering the standard that has already been set. Especially considering it's a mediocre port developer doing the heavy lifting. If it's good I'll probably get it on PS5. But I'm bracing for them to screw it up.

That tweet is literally the only place that rumor has been reported. For some reason, some people act like it is gospel truth.

jaesus man you almost gave me a heart attack, use a smaller image please lol

1. The MS sale was announced before the Sony deal could close maybe ? thus putting a near immediate stop to it, as nothing was signed.
2. Deathloop and Ghostwire exclusivity deals were announced a year or more before they released as well. The game doesn't need to be 3 months from release to announce exclusivity. See FF 16.
3. huh ? Starfield is the next big Single Player BGS studio, either studio would throw money to have it on their platform. Sony "locked" deathloop long before it released and anyone knew about its quality. The term Cyberpunk was used in reference to the developers not wanting to run into a scenario like that and needing more time to develop. Saying "I doubt Sony was really interested in Starfield" is a pretty laughable statement.

You can choose not to believe in the rumors, but the reasons you've given above are mostly terrible.

And yet here we are in a 5 page thread where many of you are salavating over a rumour started by a Youtuber, a YOUTUBER.

Well it doesn't change what happened which is why people are latching onto any explanation that they are given.

Who knows what really happened but it is unusual to say the least.

The Initiative is under just as much scrutiny as Aspyr as far as I'm concerned. Didn't Microsoft have to bring in Crystal Dynamics to save Perfect Dark because The Initiative couldn't cut the mustard?

I never claimed the people doing ports are the same people doing the KOTOR remake btw. Just that they are an unproven studio, which is why myself and many others are skeptical. If Beamdog was doing the remake it would be a different story.

Perhaps you should read my posts in this thread first. I've made no reference to the rumor here at all.

This thread tells me we're totally gonna have a playstation vs xbox fanboy war this gen, just like PS3 vs 360. But it got staggered by a couple years due to covid lol its like a delayed effect.

"terrible reasons".

1. It'd be illegal for MS to intervene in any capacity. If Sony was actually interested, that acquisition announcement would have worked as an incentive for Sony, not a deterrent.
2. Deathloop/Ghostwire exclusive was a year before the release, yes. Starfield is now expected to release in 2023. That "rumor" was about 2020. That's a 3-year difference. You proved my point.
3. You have a pretty good idea about the state of a game and its quality one year before its release. You don't usually have that idea 3-4 years before the release.

Illegal to intervene if a deal was signed. If no deal was signed, Bethesda can very easily recant the offer the minute after the MS acquisition gets confirmed.

Deathloop was announced as a PS5 console exclusive in 2019. 2 and a half years before its release. And we don't know how long before that Bethesda/Sony actually signed off on exclusivity.

With Starfield, we're only finding out about this because said exclusivity plans were dashed because MS bought Bethesda. And it was expected to release this year, 2 years after the announcement. The game didn't get delayed the moment exclusivity was announced.

It's really quite simple.

3. You have a pretty good idea about the state of a game and its quality one year before its release. You don't usually have that idea 3-4 years before the release.

ok .. you're saying the same thing I did. Deathloop was announced as an exclusive 2 and a half years before release, the deal was likely signed much before that.

FF16 was announced 2+ years ago now. We don't even know a release window, let alone release date. No one has/had an idea of either games quality at the time of their exclusivity announcement.

Thank you for agreeing with me.

That's what I'm saying. Are these guys supposed to be gaming scholars that we should blindly believe anything they say? If you want that then go to your religion of choice. If someone makes a claim about something, shouldn't they require to show evidence before people can accept it? Isn't that just common sense?

Very surprised Microsoft let this go by. Funny seeing people already wrote this off due to not being on Xbox. It's going to be multiplat, not sure why people are pushing it to suck.
Will love to see how this turns out. Never got around to playing this.
