Sony is also aiming to design a much simpler design than its predecessor. The goal is for the company to make the size and weight as low as it possibly can, reducing costs on storage and shipments.

All of this will help it profit on the product and keep the final prices down during these economically uncertain times.

Edit:

Sony, just give me this…

PS5 is horribly ugly, still think so. I don't understand how it was botched so badly. PS1, 2, and 4 were sleek and sexy. Also, can't wait for $800-900 consoles and $90 games. At that point I can assure you I will exit the hobby entirely and only play old games I already own by the time that happens. $500 is my limit for a new console, for sure.

I like PS5 design best, but only for the Digital edition.

If we'd be talking strictly with disc-drive, I'd go with PS4.

The rest is too bulky look at em in 2025.

Somehow I feel like the PS6 is not years away but coming much sooner than expected... November 2026? Why else are there so many leaks about the PS6 processor, the handheld, the disc drive, the case ...

Given the enormous size of the PS5, I sometimes think they overclocked it at the last minute and just wanted to be 100% sure the cooling would work, since there wasn't enough time left for extensive testing.

I still think it will be 2028 for console. But I believe the PSP next will be earlier especially in Japan which Sony really need right now. Hopefully full exclusives will truly be back for PS consoles and more Japan Studio games.

At the end of the day, as a consumer, I don't care that much how it looks. I only look at the console when I have to clean it or connect some USB cable. But I do think it should stand out and be recognizable as a PlayStation console, with a simple design or not. I suppose that's in their interest as well, still. At least I hope it won't get close to the OG Xbox One design and how unremarkable it was.

Ps4, with PS2 a close second.

Im glad to hear the PS6 seems to be going the efficient, simple route. Graphic wars are over, we're at a state of diminishing returns and in this economy i prefer something simple, efficient and developer freindly.

The George Foreman grill? Hell naw, man.

PS2 Slim is the best looking PS console aesthetically. Bonus points for the silver version.

I don't know, I always thought it looked kinda cheap tbh.

I like a games console to look like a games console - the crazier the better as far as I'm concerned. Love it or hate it, the PS5 made a statement.

A favourite of mine was the OG Xbox. It was a big lump of a console and I loved it.

Remember when desktop PCs were hideous abominations with rainbow coloured lights?

This is a pretty great design though. Now, the systems themselves were always kind of meh for the price, but design was to notch for its day.

And multimedia features in a lot of Vaio PCs were intersting. They even had some with mini-disk built in which was pretty darn cool.

Let's call it now, no matter what physical form/design it takes, it'll dominate the hardware market, seeing as Microsoft are like what Konami have done since 2022 when it comes to the world of football/"soccer" games...(in other words throw in the towel..)

These things are planned years in advance. They started to plan PS6 probably the year after PS5 released. This isn't uncommon.

Of course Sony is going to start work on a successor to the PS5 years before it's released. I was talking about the number of leaks at the moment. IMO that's quite unusual.

Not really. There were talks about the PS5 in 2018...a year after PS4 Pro released. Just like this time.

Switch 2 has been having talks for...3 years maybe?
