I'm stuck!

I'm in the first lab x-18,
and I found the PDA of the dead lab worker telling me the code to the door is 1234, but when I enter it into the key box, nothing happens, the door just make a clanking noise when I try to open it.
Am I missing something or is this a bug?

I modded my game to a carrying cap of 150, but it's a bit technical.
Would you mind trying to give an explanation? It's not as simple as opening .db files in notepad and finding the correct line is it? Cause that's not easy. And I'm guessing it won't work either.

Anyhow, I downloaded the Realism Mod. So hopefully I can at least mod the stuff it provides. Though I have no idea what most of it does. And all the notes are in Russian. :(

I think I've modded the puny pistol into some kind of unstoppable superweapon.

EDIT
I can now accurately shoot people with shotgun shells from a couple of hundred meters away with my 60-bullet clip pistol/machinegun. :lol
So can the NPC's. :(

Got the game, runs like a good'un on my laptop thanks for the tips modus & co.

Liking it so far, feels very familiar despite being pretty unique.

Gotta say though, I fudging hate openworld games that dont have a respawn component, I dont mind losing some money or failing a quest, just dont make me re-play the same 20 minutes over again when i die! Guess I'll have to regress into my Max Payne 2 esque quicksaving behaviours.

This is embarrassing. :)

I'm trying to deliver the documents to the Barkeep in The Bar, and I can't get his attention. He just sits there looking at the ****ing wall, and he's got a body guard that won't let me get back there to shout shit in his face. WTF am I supposed to do?

You dont go behind the bar. Just step up to it and talk to him.

Damn, hunting down those stashes you find in notes off dead bodies can be rewarding. Just picked up 2 SEVA (30,000 RU each) suits in one stash!

Ummm.....unless the game interfaced bugged out on me, that didn't seem to be an option. He just stares at his damned boiling mutant head and the Talk (F) option never comes up. I'll guess I'll try tonight after a reload. :\

Yeah, a reload took care of this problem. The Bartender was seriously froze up or something last time.

What's the deal with the Best Buy exclusive map? Is it preloaded on the disc, is there suppsoed to be a code somewhere for it, or what?

What does the patch do considering it breaks all game save files so if I install it I will have to start over.

Performance improvements, completely redone economy, weaker enemies earlier on, armor degredation and tons of multiplayer things.

I can't find the damned Strelok's gang stah, I'm on the first underground tunnels killed a Snork and a bunch of bandits and military men.

It should be marked on your map, in that room it's
behind the map stand

I got "decent" performances @ medium setting and full dynamic lighting. Must be more improvements though.

The * key speeds up time, / brings it back to normal.

Alright, is it normal that i cant access the initial trader guy? I came back to turn in a couple of quests but the door is closed, there's no F or whatever to open, its 9am so i would think business is open.. and i can see the door move a little bit with push against it but, sadly i cant get it to work the other way.

Am i ****ed to start all over again?

Alright, I just got out of Strelok's stash, and proceeded to steal the documents from the institute.

This game is brilliant but also extremely frustrating at every turn. This is some of the best AI I've seen in an FPS but it's nearly impossible to do any stealth in the game no thanks to its ability to see you from a mile away while you're hidden in a bush. Definitely shades of Farcry AI here.

Plus, the military dudes wear really overpowered armor. You can unload almost an entire clip of MP5 9mm ammo into their bodies and they don't even recoil. Only way to drop 'em realistically is with a headshot -- and this goes for the AK74s too.

Sneaking in to grab that briefcase was pure quicksave/quickload hell.

And the fact that my armor is all chewed up now makes this game even harder.

I was playing on Veteran up until Strelok's underground stash. That's when I turned it down to Stalker. Ridiculous.

Going for the legs really helps, man. Once they're staggered, they go down pretty easy. And, yeah, the game has a lot of script glitches. It's no ****ing fun to reload a save just beacuse events occur with an unfavorable result when you had no way of affecting the situation...

There's nothing quite like being heavily irradiated, loaded with artefacts, pissed up on vodka so much that your screen seems to be covered with Vaseline and your cross-hair has become a wild animal that you futilely try to reign in whenever you hear a cry of Russian across the wastes; all the while you are trying to run back to the bar to sell all your loot, consuming copious amounts of energy drinks to regain stamina - when you happen across a lone Private patrolling the open road - and despite your previous 7 bottles of vodka and rapidly degenerating health, you somehow manage to pull off a single lethal head shot with your AK using just the iron sights.

This game has its moments :lol

Also, since the patch, has anyone else noticed the creeping Spetznas patrols in the Cordon (first) Area? They definitely make the Cordon more interesting but they usually end up at war with the initial camp which isn't very fun :(

Just got to the barkeep area and the game has suddenly opened up its treasures to me.

3 different assault rifles, RPG-7, scopes up the wazoo... and too many cool ass missions awaiting me. And yet, I have to escort this pansy ass professor in an ET suit. I want to get back to the bar to sell my shit.

STALKER rocks when it doesn't suck.

Well, after looking on multiple forums about the problem i encountered earlier, about the trader's door not opening, it seems im not alone and even an obvious bug implemented in the new patch. After trying to open it by jumping into it from its side since it worked for some, after a good 10 mins i gave up and restarted from scratch. Anyway, im now up to the garbage area, awesome.

I just LOVE this game's environments, oh and i must say, full dynamic lighting and that gorgeous sky is giving my eyes some of the sweetest candies they've ever tasted. There sure are a shitload of bandits though, jesus christ.

Yea I'm at Chernobyl and it's pretty damn hard. Between the snipers and the apaches it's a massive effort just to move forward a few feet.

So I finally made it to the barkeep with the documents and the flash drive, yet he won't turn around to talk to me. He stands in front of a TV monitor watching it, while a guy guards the door so I can't get through to talk to him! :lol Am I missing something here??

imo this game is ruined by the difficulty.. i cant go anywhere without running into groups of bandits and the shooting is impossible unless at close range.

It gets much better once you have access to better weapons.

It's a royal pain in the Cordon and the Garbage areas, I admit. An AK-74 from anything beyond 30 meters with the ironsights is completely frustrating, since the AI seems to be able to get you to BLEED with consistency.

Once you make it to the barkeep, you'll get access to much better stuff. Before you head over there, however, be sure to go back to the Trader in cordon and "trade" or buy a custom made stalker assault rifle. It costs 16000 but comes with a grenade launcher and is worth every zenny.

I did a quick ballistics test against that assault rifle versus other ones and it drops military dudes in 3 shots max to the body. No more praying for headshots from a distance.

I disagree completely. If anything "ruins" this game, it's the fact that most gamers have been exposed to the bullshit ballistics of Half-Life and Quake, whereas this title goes for realism.

Not sure about that Stalker rifle, but I have a Balanced IL 86 that it's kicking all kinds of ass.

Not my capture, BTW.

W00t! I sneaked into the military building but got a bug where I made a quickload and the alarm kept ringing so killed every single military guy in the area. It also helped that they stayed close to the entrance, a good grenade killed 6 at once.
Also shooting at longe range can be done, just takes a few more bullets to hit.

while i completely agree that the combat in stalker is far more realistic than those games, the amount of hits it takes to kill someone is pretty freaking ridiculous.

Once you accept the fact that each weapon is treated more like a Diablo item, where its limits are somewhat arbitrary (almost random grouping within a strict predesignated zone for that weapon which is altered by stance, whether a shot is first or comes in a succession, recoil, ironsights used or not, etc.) it's not so bad. It is frustrating when you're used to the pixel-perfect shooting of anything else out there, though. Still, early on, before you get the scope attachments, and better weapons, you can really improve your consistency with small bursts, aiming lower to start as you engage and letting recoil ride high up the target, and staggering setups.

I remember getting that really nice custom, fast firing AK in Strelok's stash and it was instantly better at long range than anything else for a while. I've kept it in a box and used it pretty consistently with upgrades (scope/gren. launcher). Also, using the newb stick (sawn off shotty) and how common the ammo is makes things considerably easier if you're carrying out exchanges closer than 30m. Hell, I got pretty good at setting up with the sawn off for a stagger and then finish with a pistol headshot on the heavies.

I reloaded the save and the barkeeper walked up to me. Must have been some sort of odd glitch. Strange.
