20+ hours in and really enjoying SR3. Just met the mayor - brilliant stuff!
A couple of things I'm having problems with, any advice on passing the 'Mayhem' and 'Insurance Fraud' missions? I just can't seem to chain combos long enough in 'Mayhem' or 'Fraud', is there is secret to passing these or any pointers?
For mayhem the key is to keep your combo counter up so focus on hitting small numerous things like chain link fences, garbage cans, newspaper bins and so forth.
For Insurance Fraud you want to try and bounce off as many vehicles per hit as you can, keep in mind you have full control over your limp body when you're airborne.

as well as that if they give you unlimited grenades ...use them on everything just throw em around like candy(make sure you upgrade grenades to max level)...i found doign that you could combo vehicles and fences ect endlessly
Played for 15 hours so far, and this game just keeps on giving. Already decided to install and finish Just Cause 2 after this one, really want to play open-world GTA games now.

The first couple have unlimited grenades, the later ones have unlimited rockets and air strikes. The airstrikes are too slow to maintain your combo but the rockets make it cake.
I bought the game today and downloaded it through Steam. I can't start up any of the modes though. It dumps me straight back to the title screen after I select the difficulty level. Any suggestions?
I love that you have more control over your body now in Insurance Fraud. You had a some in SR2, but more is better in this case. Also loved the little nod to fences in the first mayhem.
My favourite technique for Insurance Fraud is to sprint towards a car then hit jump and ragdoll the instant the dodge/roll animation starts. If you time it right you get a bit of air and go head-first into the hood of the car, and if you have enough momentum you'll end up rolling right over and into the car behind it.

Works especially awesome if you're on the highway. Lots of distance and lots of cars to hit in both directions. You can keep your guy perpetually in the air if you're good enough.

I had an amazing run on one of the tougher ones where I literally ping-ponged between cars for about a minute without touching the ground. It would have gone on longer but, for the umpteenth time playing this game, I was laughing too hard to keep going.
What I am wondering is when I see people complaining about there not being gang members around for challenges: Is this only end-game or does clearing all challenges and buying everything affect this? Like, if I take over the city before doing the final missions, will there be no gang members?
I ask because I want to do everything before beating the game.
Just had a whimsical ol time in Zelda and Rayman. So now time for... this. I literally stopped listening to the latest Bombcast midway through, drove down to the store and bought this game. They finally broke me.

You will not regret it. SR3 is just pure fun. I can't tell you how many hours I have spent just tooling around on my customized dirt bike. If you can, co-op. It makes an already amazingly entertaining game, even more hilarious and fun.
I suspect part of the reason the stuff is on disc is so people who don't buy the DLC can play with people who do, which was a huge problem in SR2. I'm not defending it, but I think that's why they do it.
So after walking around the map for an hour, I finally found
Prof Genki. Took a little while to kill him, but the pay off was worth it
Pity there isn't an Achievement for killing him
I noticed the new DLC too. 1 piece of clothing and 1 weapon for 160 points each??
Shitty DLC normally doesn't bother me, but the fact that the DLC is on the disc does. Even more so, to charge for shit DLC that is on the disc to those who bought the Season Pass is even worse.
No doubt THQ are behind this. They wanted 40 weeks of DLC, and it seems in order to provide it, they had Volition keep stuff out of the game.
I checked my nephews PC version that he err
"got off the net" *cough*
and it contains both pieces of recent DLC, as well as the Nyteblade DLC, the Shark Attack DLC and stuff that will no doubt be in upcoming DLC, like the Samurai Armour as well as other stuff that is no doubt from more upcoming DLC.
Makes me wonder what the point of the Season Pass was now. I mean we got the crappy Nyte Blade DLC for free, and are only entitled to a 15% discount off the 3 upcoming advertised packs :/
At least the DLC in SR2 was pretty meaty (by #3's standard at least). You got more then simply 1 costume and 1 gun.
I just hope the mission packs aren't uber short like SR2's were. Though I am not getting my hopes up.
Don't get me wrong, I love the game. I am almost 20 hours in and only done like 10%, but the game feels like it was rushed or not quite finished. Feels like alot of stuff from SR2 has been removed or nerfed.
The amount of customization feels lacking (you can't even customize things like various socks/stocking, jewelery, or even remove the fugly head piece from the Cannoness outfit), the city feels empty, and wtf is with the constant day/night cycle? And why is it when there is a thunder storm, there isn't even any lightning?? It imo, ruins the whole atmosphere.
Still a bloody great game though. The pro's outweighs the con's. It's just disappointing to see some wasted potential.
The lack of customization in this game is depressing. Saint's Row 2 had so much more, I don't know why they didn't just take all those assets from there and move them to this game.
No crew cut? No bandolier? Come on now, how the hell can I be expected to make a decent Duke without that stuff.

I think so, you can log in to community site from the main menu, right? Just log in before you start playing.
5 minutes ago I hit save cap on PC. Really, Volition, on a PC? Is it so difficult to code a few lines and make it so, I can have multiple saves? Bethesda can do it, I have 500 Skyrim saves. My HDD can take it, you don't have to worry about it.

It's really the only way to replay missions you liked, without having to start the whole game over. I have a save right before the infamous Decker mission, I can see where some people might do a lot more.
Volition recommends to make saves before doing missions in order to replay them. There aren't even enough save spots per mission. I ran into the same issue and it is pretty ridiculous. Shouldn't be any limit to the number of saves I am able to have.
I didn't know we couldn't replay missions to see the other results beforehand. Guess I'll just make a new game to see it. Kinda weird they don't unlock them for replay after the end game.

Another sleepless night with this game- I just played the craziest Survival mission ever...
It was Left4Dead, Saints Row Edition. A zombie genocide, complete with zombie brutes (I think the target was kill 600 zombies).
Dual SMG's. Molotovs. Infinite Upgrade, let's DO THIS. Zombies were pulling up in ambulances, cop cars, hearses and I sent 'em packing! Fucking insanity. This game! One Survival away from the "You're My Hero" achievement. So close!
Need to finish all the stuff and get started on co-op.
I have one Morningstar district 100%, another 98%. Should I wait and do all the challenges involving Morningstar, since after I get my second 100% they will stop showing?
Personally, I think that the game was improved in the ways that are most difficult (controls, stability, gating), and a lot of the crazier moments were dialled up, particularly in regard to weapons. There is less customization this time around, though, and if you liked the brotherhood's revenge porn plot arc in SR2, there's nothing like that here -- though the actual story missions (when they're not just introductions to activities) are way, way better. I really, really don't agree with Pepsiman's claim that the game is less witty -- Tom Chick's review was completely spot-on for me. It's a really really well-written, well-crafted game. (Though if DLC rubs you the wrong way, beware. I personally find the game so good that I have no problem shelling out more cash for it.)
