Saints Row The Third |OT| Oscar Worthy Gameplay

I got them with my THQ order last week.
The car and the squid gun are fucking worthless, you're not missing anything.

I don't ever use the car, but the octopus gun is by far the coolest weapon in game. It is essentially a rocket launcher that shoots remote-detonated explosives that also have the side effect of turning any NPC / regular enemy into an ally. It is AMAZING.

Man, loving this game, but I cannot help but think it would be just a bit more awesome with a tad more polish, mainly in the animation department. Vehicles that are upside down just dropping NPCs/players outside of the car instead of people crawling out or whatever.

Is this what they call jank?

Hopefully I'll save someone else the trouble since someone claimed on the previous page that they bought this game at Best Buy on sale yesterday.

I'm here now and it's $59.99.

One thing I'd like to see evolve in the whole GTA-Mayhem genre is the way emergent encounters escalate from one star to 5 star "the whole world is out to get you and will continue non-stop until you die or run away". Every time I fight and then have to run away because the enemies will simply never stop coming, which is a shame since these crazy huge battles can be some of the best parts of the game - but running away makes me feel like I've actually lost those battles every time.

I guess I'd rather see something more like a Horde mode mentality, where you there is a limit to the waves that will be sent against you, or some kind of street battle "win" condition, something, anything, as an option besides running to one of your properties to drop your notoriety. Maybe after X waves of enemies your gang could arrive (like they do in the horde like side missions), and while your gang is battling it out you can leave the area and drop your notoriety as you move away from area.

The
Gangsters in Space mission?
I think that's what they were going for, but I found it actually less annoying than UC2.

I'm sure it was the intention, but I can't imagine someone saying "man the end of UC2 fucking sucked", "yeah?", "let's do that!".

Terrible idea I think. Maybe the other ending is better.

I thought SR2 was more balanced overall, had a better selection of main missions that weren't just activities, and much more content such as facial expressions, walk style, clothing options, fucking Freckle Bitch's, etc. SR3 is a more over-the-top game, but it feels like it's missing a lot of things that its predecessor made standard (no replaying missions? BOOOOOOO).

If SR3 was my first SR title I would've been pretty happy with it, but as a longtime fan of the series, knowing how many features and overall content are lacking, make it a major disappointment.

I can agree with this. I mean, I enjoy the game and all but still felt really disappointed with it.

I'm almost five hours in. Is there a specific way to do Story missions? I've been doing every mission that pops up under "missions" on my phone but it's almost always an "activity". Like right now the missions I have available are Escort, Trojan Whores, and Insurance Fraud. Will one of them be/lead me to a story mission?

They're just introducing you to those things really, you don't have to do them after that.

I'd heard it was only for the first so many copies of the game with pre-order, I thought the Professor Genki events in the game were tied to the content but I was relieved when I saw otherwise.

yeah, either the game sold poorly Here or it was a lie. I got SR3 for xmas and it had this "dlc" inside the game.

NumberTwo

Paper or plastic?
Anyone willing to co op with a level 26? I just took the
whorehouse with the pimp guy.
It would be nice to have a partner in crime to finish the story.

PSN is in my profile. Word of warning; I'm still playing through it, so I do intend on watching the cutscenes.

I'm 3 hours in and this game is boring as fuck, seems like tutorial mission one after another for the activities in the game. Does it open up or something? Or is everyone just attracted to the crude humor?

keep playing. it opens up. i thought the same thing. but i will say it never reached the levels that people are saying it does. it's an awesome game but some people are definitely over selling it. great game and hilarious if you like crude humor but not goty material in my opinion.

And yeah people have oversold the crap out of this game. If I have to do another mission where I'm flying in a helicopter protecting or escorting something I'm gonna throw my controller.

According to the % I am about 26% done with this game. It's really good but not up to SR2 levels imo. The city and feature set is too stripped down. I like the leveling system, it's much more polished, and the graphics are better, but I'm not just feeling this game like I was the first two. So I'm a bit disappointed but this is still a really fun game and worth playing.

Going from SR: The Third to playing SR2 for the first time I instantly realized how bad the 2nd's driving/shooting game is. Maybe people who played 2 got used to it, but it's just so, so sloppy and I can't justify playing through the free PSN download of SR2 because of it.

Yeah, the controls in 2 were woeful, but the world was much better. All they need to do now is find a way to take the best of 2 and the mix it with the best of TT. Open world perfection would ensue.

I just finished the story in this game. I think it's my game of the year. My Nolan North character was amazing. I can't wait to try out some different voices.

I just need a patch to get these weird red crosses out of the Professor Genki side missions on the 360. I'm so close to 100%!

Had the same problem, this fixed it for me:

1. Quit to dashboard

2. Go to settings --> Memory/Storage --> Go to storage device options --> clear system cache --> restart game

hope this helps

Have they fixed it so I can go back and complete the side missions after the main story is complete? Having no gangs spawn and wanting to get 100% is a bummer.

Went back and got the other ending. Much better other than the 'moral choice' that leads to it, I think most people who finish it will just get the other ending and not go back.

It's funny how both in some way ape pivotal scenes in GTA4 too.

No and I suspect they won't, there are workarounds though. Going into your friend's game is the easiest, but also if you go into some activities (like mayhem) and get a bunch of gang members after you, then quit out of the activity, you can mess with them.

Remind me what the ending to UC2 was? I'm trying to remember, but have no idea what you are comparing this to.

I hated Saints Row 2. But given the combination of Giant Bomb gushing over this game, my friend buying it on PC, and it showing up for $35 during the Steam holiday sale I decided to give it a shot.

And damn, I love it.

I believe perhaps it was that
stupid monster bad guy you had to fight for absolutely no reason... like you have this calculated evil enemy for the whole game, and then POOF, magic zombie monster juiced on herbal steroids that you can only kill by lobbing endless grenades at him
. Hated it too.

Finshed the game last night and to be honest I've kinda lost respect for Giantbomb for liking the game as much as they did. I found the game to be super boring and very tedious.

In the 'good' ending
after you've done the Red Faction shit, the final boss fight is the same as the final boss fight in UC2, you run around and shot explosive things in the environment which are the only things that hurt the boss. When he grabs you and you can shoot him in the face is also from UC2.
And I hated that, in both games.

I was really put off by the fact that that whole final mission plays like a bad parody.

I usually don't care about spoilers, but I really wish I hadn't seen or heard any spoilers about this beforehand. It still is a great game, but some of the crazier stuff would have been more fun and impactful.

The fact that it was like a bad parody is why I liked it so much.

Join me for my media blackout when SR4 gets unveiled. Pretty much every significant thing in SR3 was spoiled by THQ's marketing; I'm not letting that happen again.

I'm not going to tell you your opinion is wrong, but it seems to be the majority opinion that it is at least a decent game, why hate on a review source for being in line with majority opinion?

So because you didn't like something and someone else did means that their opinion is worth less now?

The British guy is the best voice. Believe.

I'm doing my second playthrough with female voice number 1 and it's alright ... but I do miss the crazy british guy

I had him as my male and he is indeed great. I am just a sucker for great female leads in games - and that does not happen very often sadly.

People here seem to not have much of a problem with that when it comes to IGN and the like, right? I don't think SR3 is anywhere near GOTY material. Customization, cut scenes, missions, activities, NPCs, vehicles, stores, exploration; almost every aspect is watered down or gutted from the previous titles, save for more satisfying combat. It's no surprise there's so much backlash on the official forum. I really love this series; SR3 deserved better than this. Maybe Volition was rushed and under funded, or they pulled a Rockstar North and streamlined everything to make it more accessible/ capture a larger audience. The new engine is in place and they have Steelport to build off from. If SR4 isn't as big a leap from three, as part two was from the original, and all the series' staples are still missing, we'll know they've gone in a new direction.

Just started playing this.

Oh my word. What. A. Fucking. Game. I've played it for an hour so far and yet I feel like this game will let me do anything once it gets going. So far it already feels like a better GTA game than.. well, GTA is. I let out an audible cheer when I realised you could buy property in this, something I think has been sorely missed since Vice City.

Also, kudos to Violition on the technical side of things here. The PC version is drop dead gorgeous and is one of the best performing and slickest looking games I've ever played. I've always considered Saints Row to be inferior to GTA in terms of technical achievement and polish, but already Saints Row The Third feels like a legitimately better game to me than GTA IV did.

I'm in awe of it. It's stunning.

Finished this last night. (
Did both endings. "Going to" mars was a blast.
) Went ahead and bought the Season Pass on Steam and can't wait for the new content.

I have Saint's Row 2 for my 360 and only played about 5 hours. Going to start a new game and finish it. After playing The Third, I'm craving a new open world game like it.
